How is that obvious? You may be correct but it is also possible that all of them are mediocre at their very best...

Also, even if only one of them is going to turn out to be "more than just decent" as a QB, that would give a team - - like the Skins - - only a 20% chance of picking the one that will turn out well.

Clemens will not embarrass a team as a back-up QB. However, if he is the guy who wins the QB competition and the guy you start the season with, the team's fortunes look bleak
Well, I think you read that bolded part wrong, but you got my idea.

Re: Redskins sign QB Kellen Clemens

I'm a little confused on the signing of Clemens, who has been a career-back up thus far in the NFL. That leaves us with John Beck, also a backup, and Rex Grossman, who is now the only proven NFL starter on our QB chart.

I want to ask the veteran members here why the Redskins didnt go after a starting caliber Free Agent QB? Someone like Matt Hasselbeck, or Marc Bulger? I think Bulger is finished but he has tons of starting expereince, and I could see him lasting here for one year while we prepare for the future.

Is the answer just as simple as Mike Shanahan beleives that he can win with these guys? Does this make Rex the favorite to start??
He's definitely going to Houston and Vince Young tells me ('cause that's how I roll) he's not coming to Washington...but then again I've been "lied" to in the past
EDIT: Vince Young is now very much back in play. Nothing can happen of course before he gets cut but he's once again a strong possibility

Why haven't they cut him already? What are they waiting for?

That would be a nice pick-up.

Yeah let's see. I have a feeling some teams that are acting like they're not interested will be placing a call to Young in the next couple of days

We have broached the subject in various other threads and basically came to the conclusion that due to the unusual circumstances this off-season has presented, there are no viable options at the QB position that could come in on short notice and perform any better than the options we already have.

The same rationale can be applied to the signing of W/R we've signed thus far. I'm convinced the team is looking for a long term answer at the QB position and don't feel the answer would come in this off-season and weren't in a hurry to repeat the mistake of last season. We don't need anymore placeholders, we have a couple of them in place already. The next serious QB move should be one with a lasting affect, not someone for a year and be gone. We're working on three for three now and we're not satisfied with what we have, so in all probability next year we'll be four for four. Hard to have any sustained success that way.

Rex Grossman is way better than Vince Young he can actually throw the football.
