I don't really understand this move for any party. It will be fascinating if the Eagles hold onto Asante Samuel. But if they trade him as assumed, teams are just going to throw at DRC all day, every day, and Asomugha will never see the football.
Furthermore, this isn't a monster deal or anything, and I'm not sure how any team got priced out of the market for Asomugha per these contract terms. Oakland loses, Dallas loses, the Jets lose, and Philadelphia...spends money on a good talent. Are they going to play zone or man? I don't really know. Philly: a really impressive offseason and they have a really loaded roster at many positions, including CB. The Asomugha move is a boost to their secondary, but I don't think it is anything more than that.
well, his agent might have overstepped or bluffed, and after two teams hung up, the eagles were left with less money on the table. just a guess, but that's a great buy, and they might just flip DRC for a 3rd/4th and be better off for it. they can't really lose either way. |
we are once again the doormat of our division. we had the most money to spend and did not bring a differance maker in on either side of the ball but phila. did and cowboys are in process of doing so and n.y. has better personnal than us,plus we have no right tackle, need linebackers for the middle (mac) is a FA ,no depth anywere and last but not least our QB situation is like scramble eggs ,we have a undrafted qb from ind.,a career back-up in clemons and our starter who has been in the league for four yrs. and on two or three differant teams and never has started what does that tell you?get ready for the lottery draft here we come. same old skins another dismal is on the horizon f*********n great
Bro, I know how it feels to feel like that, since we root for the same team obviously. It looks bad right now, that the rich are getting richer while it seems we're stuck in neutral. But in reality you just need to trust in the coaching staff. They know what they're doing, and the moves we're making right now aren't so that we can win now, they're so we can win in the long term. Remember how it felt when this team was making big time moves in the offseason, but never the draft? Remember the excitement we all felt when we traded for and/or signed guys like McNabb, Haynesworth, Archuleta, Randle El, Brandon Lloyd, Jeff George, Primetime, Bruce Smith, Mark Carrier, etc.? At the time, we all thought we were getting players who would be playing at the pinnacle of their positions for a long time. Instead, we got players who never performed or lived up to any expectations. Over a decade we proved that you can't win consistently by signing big name free agents to big money deals and expecting them to repeat their success here. Yeah I know, Nnamdi is different. He's a humble yet talented leader who lets his play do all the talking, and I mean all the talking. He's so humble he's willing to take less money if it means he will get one step closer to winning a Super Bowl. The anti-Haynesworth, it seems. It doesn't matter. This team isn't one shutdown corner away from winning a Super Bowl, and it won't be for quite some time. We have too many holes to fill, and there's no way he'd ever give us the "contender discount." The Eagles made the right move, and we made the right move as well. All I'm saying is don't think the season is over before it's ever begun. If all these no name guys like John Beck never got a chance to prove themselves, NFL history would be missing a lot of great names, like Kurt Warner, Rod Smith (who was Shanny's discovery), etc. Just give him a chance. |

It seems to me, though, that Babin might be the bigger signing. In Nnamdi they replaced a Pro Bowler with a better Pro Bowler; with Babin they filled a big hole. |

Of all places... Philly.... makes me sick to see them add talent.

Re: Philadelphia Eagles Sign Nnamdi Asomugha
To echo Mooby's very eloquent post, the game is played on the field. And the last time I checked each team has to field 11 players at a time. Asomugha could be a difference maker for the Eagles, but he's still only one player. Albeit an immensely talented one, still just one guy.
This is the NFL. How many times have we seen that one stud go to a team and things just didn't pan out the way it was drawn up on the board. I remember when the 49ers signed Nate Clements, the pundits were falling over themselves anointing them the next great thing. They do it year after year with the Chargers. This year Detroit is everyone's Cindarella favorite. I like where the Skins are right now and that's all I'm really concerned about. |

Really well said. One team's treasure sometimes doesn't amount to anything on the next team. Agreed that both the Eagles and Skins did the right thing by signing/not signing Nnamdi. A few years ago, the Redskins would have already locked up both Nnamdi and Santonio, and already held high profile pressers with both guys. We're taking a very deliberate, non-flashy approach to building a balanced roster with measured moves... Philly is a team on the cusp of winning it all and has cap room to throw in a monster like Asomugha to get them oh so much closer. Good for both front offices. |
Re: Philadelphia Eagles Sign Nnamdi Asomugha
Wow that sucks for rest of the division. If Vick stays healthy (and they get D-Jack signed), Philly is gonna run away with the division.
Why?Lets not just anoint them champs just yet,not saying he's not good but teams before have had good players and not won things,....am I right???Eagles are the new cowboys. |
Re: Philadelphia Eagles Sign Nnamdi Asomugha
Philly is going to run away with the division but putting together a team that plays well for the next 5-10 years is way more important IMO than rushing to build a winner with overpriced parts

Mooby wins this thread.
Good move by Philly, it would have been the wrong move for us. One move doesn't win you anything. |
