"The rookie pool is, essentially, a cap within a cap. A team's rookie pool allocation is part of, not an addition to, the league's $75.1 million spending limit."
True. The NFL determines the rookie pool for each team based on the number of draft picks and position of those picks. They are assigned a rookie pool number. The total money allocated to draft picks cannot exceed this number, and is included the salary cap.

For instance in 2004 our rookie pool was about $3M. Here's the 2004 cap hits of our drafted rookies:

Taylor - $2.16M
Cooley - $395K
Molinaro - $255K
Wilson - $270K

Total - $3.06M

As for Arrington, I don't think this thread is out of line.

The fact is Lavar is our most expensive player, missed most of the year, and the defense didn't seem to miss him too much. If we can run Samuels into the ground because of his cap number, I don't think it's crazy to bring up the same issue with Arrington.

That being said, like many have mentioned, the cap pretty much ensures Arrington will be here for a while. I estimate he's here at least thru 2007.

ARE YOU GUYS SERIOUS? I cannot believe we are second guessing a guy who has been the soul of our team for years, i guess now that we have a few other guys who can play football we forget who has gave us hope over the last few years. Dont get me wrong i know that we have a few good ball players but NONE OF THEM are better than LA Baby

EEich 01-13-2005 05:23 PM

We haven't had a winning team with Lavar as our "soul".

You know, if were were discussing about Resigning LaVar and people were against it, I would understand.

If somthing happens in court and the contract is void and people want to argue to not resign him, thats great.

However, in no way, shape or form can we afford to trade him. End. Of. story.
LaVar is a strength, not a weakness. im surprised at how 'what have you done for me lately' you guys are. he's a massive lockerroom presence, not to mention the ferocity he brings onto the field. like Ramsey, he's had to suffer along being a Redskin for so many disappointing and tumultous seasons, but UNLIKE Champ or now Smoot, he's always stayed optimistic and enthusiastic about the club.

if Arrington played this season, we would have the number one defense this season instead of number three. alot of those 'oh so close' to getting the QB (vinny) situations would have been certain sacks. probably would have gotten a couple more fumbles too.
I have to disagre ill, I believe Lavar is a weakness he get's paid superstar money and his position is being played admirably by minimum wage type player's, practice squad guy's, his salary weaken's our team, William's proved this year that if you give him a LB with speed he will make a player out of him, how much better do you think Lavar would be compared to either Marshall or Clemon's? Do I think he is better than Marshall? Yes, but not nearly enough of an impact to justify his salary compared to Marshall and Clemon's, I started and still am the leader of the Lavar is the most overated player in the NFL club.

Big C 01-13-2005 11:33 PM

please, give lavar a chance to suceed in this system like marshall has, then make the comparison. until then, i dont buy anything.

GREAT POINT!!

Alot of guys really flursihed in the system this year. LaVar is supposed to be the most gifted athlete on the defense, so maybe he would cause alot of ruckus in the system. The only game you can really judge from is the TB game, which I belive he had a decent game. The games at the end of the year, he was at DE alot, a move I dont think will work out that great if perminant. I'm excited to see how he does next season.

Does anyone have a source that says Arrington was paid the roster bonus?

The WT today says he may drop his grievance, doesn't sound like he's received anything.

Paintrain 01-14-2005 10:18 AM

From the WT article where Lavar says he will probably drop the greivance:
"The Pro Bowl linebacker cited as factors his inability to play much this season ("You figure it's a roster bonus [and] I wasn't really a part of the roster this year") and his love of the city ("The city means too much to me, being a Redskin means too much to me"). "
Yeah, he's just here for the paycheck and he's an overrated underperformer. C'mon guys.

MTK 01-14-2005 10:25 AM

The naysayers will say he's dropping it because he has little to no chance of actually winning the grievance. Maybe that is the case, or maybe he is genuine when he says he loves the team and the city. I really don't care what his reasoning is at this point, as long as he's healthy and ready to go next year.

My thought's exactly! I think Arrington will have a great year in 05'. :thumb: The guy was hurt all year so I can't understand how some folk's on this site can say he is overrated.
All I ask is remember who you are next year when Lavar is taking peoples heads off and is our D's MVP! All you Johnny come lately "Redskins Fans"! Lavar is a REDSKIN down to the bone! Where is the loyalty???

:httr:

TheMalcolmConnection 01-14-2005 03:03 PM

Definitely, I mean he wasn't quite 100% when he played in some games at the end of the season and definitely made some big hits.

HE will play through injury. His passion for the game is among the top in the league (not to mention his talent).

I really like Lavar as a person, but I still stand firm on him being far overated.
