Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins vs. 49ers) (Thread is Open)
Yes, this is exactly it. I love the youth movement that we saw yesterday but Beck being so completely inept is going to stunt the growth of all our young offensive players. Beck is NOT our future QB so why are we going to go through growing pains grooming him? Inbetween his turnovers Rex will run the offense properly and get the ball to our WR's when they are open. Rex is terrible...I never thought i would want him back in there but Beck is not even an NFL QB. His only scoring drives since he started playing are garbage time drives. It seemed like yesterday he was determined not to be sacked 10 times so he was just checking the ball down imediately before anything developed.
And I was there yesterday...so I saw the whole field on every play...this is not Kyle...we had open WR's all over the field. This is a QB problem...
I agree with you and SS. Beck's play obscured a lot of potential positives from this game. It was our best use of personnel the whole season. |
Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins vs. 49ers) (Thread is Open)
I'm not reading 5 pages of this thread to see if it's been mentioned, but man I am so tired of Laron Freaking Landry. Getting into shouting matches before the game, wagging his finger and jawing after making a tackle on a 12 yard play that went for a first down....
Just shut your freaking trap man. You're not even that good right now. Also, how funny is it that our longest offensive play was a mistake? Helu grabs that tipped ball out of the air and takes off for like 14 or 16 yards or whatever it was. Just pathetic. And John Beck... ohhhh John Beck. You absolutely stink out loud like I've never seen. Jumpy in the pocket, terrible awareness, throws to guys that are covered when other guys are wide freaking open, if Justin Smith had hands Beck would have thrown a touchdown in the endzone, horribly inaccurate.... I could go on. He's god awful. I firmly believe that if Beck stays the starter, we won't win another game. Not a single one. |

Nothing sums it up better then this statement from John Keim of the Examiner
1. Here’s what I like about Jim Harbaugh: He’s winning the way Washington should be, with a strong running game, an outstanding defense and a game manager at quarterback. They have what the Redskins don’t: something to hang their hat on. And even before the injuries, the Redskins did not want to play this way. They wanted to be an explosive offense without explosive talent. In less than half a season the 49ers have an established identity. The Redskins do not; even before the injuries that wasn’t the case. They’re 24 games in… and counting. Maybe they did want their identity to be an aggressive passing team. But it just seems San Francisco plays to its strengths while the Redskins play to what they wish their strength was. Schemes are terrific, but they don’t win titles. Playmakers in good schemes win titles. Using guys to their strengths matters, too. I’m certain that Mike Shanahan knows this; he knows the talent level was low. But when you put certain guys in certain spots, it’s also on you.
Read more at the Washington Examiner: Ten observations: Niners 19, Redskins 11 | John Keim | NFL | Washington Examiner |

Agreed. With Grossman at the helm we are a bad NFL team. With Beck we're a bad high school team. Not sure the solution. Watching Beck is very painful. Starting Rex we'll develop our WRs a little more and maybe win a game or two but winning isn't necessarily a good thing at this point. Here's my plan... Run the wildcat every play and anytime we get to the other team's 40 bring on Gano for the 57-yarder... |

Shanahan had a game manager on the roster (or could have gotten a game manager via free agency), yet chose to trade for a washed up veteran that couldn't even be a game manager. He took an established defense, blew it up (creating more holes on the roster) and implemented a new scheme. Finally, he took a run-first team and turn it into a pass-first team. The problem (like with the defensive overhaul) is that we didn't (and still don't) have the talent or players to run such a scheme. I guess I need to realize that last year was a complete waste and this is rebuilding year #1. |

The trade for Beck involved a training camp scrub. We put the guy back on the PS later that year. We haven't heard of Doug Dutch since. |

I'm going to guess that next years QB plan will be to acquire Matt Leinart and have him start while they groom a rookie QB.
