Suh got mad in a game and did a bad thing.

FD and TW ignored Federal and State Law as well as the NFL Substance Abuse Policy for a short period of "recreation" not worrying about the repercussions, to themselves their families, or their team. For a third time in their short careers.

Don't see the comparison there really. I don't care who you want to compare them to I'd cut them if I was emperor for a day.

Good points from John Keim:

1. Before we get on to the reality check that Sunday provided, have to talk about Trent Williams and Fred Davis. If the reports are true about their suspension – nothing is official yet but the team expects to hear something soon (Monday perhaps, but not definitely) – I’m not sure anyone should be surprised. Before the 2008 draft, I talked to one draft expert/scout and asked him for three guys he would stay away from in the draft. Davis was one of them. He just didn’t trust him or the direction he would go in his career, based on off-field concerns. After some early issues in his career, Davis was mostly clean. He had improved as a player this year and was becoming a playmaking tight end. And now this. In a contract year no less! (Notice the rare use of an exclamation point). How do you make that sort of mistake? How can a team trust a guy who failed a drug test at least three times (again, according to reports)? Good lord.

2. Meanwhile, we all know what Williams’ reputation was at Oklahoma when it came to his work ethic. It was subpar. They wondered if he was willing to put in the effort to be great. In fairness, he reported to camp in terrific shape. Now, I’m quite sure there are players in this league who have smoked marijuana who have been good players. There are players who drink and are stars, too. They just know when to do it and when not to. If it’s habitual, that’s an issue. And I’m sure others are doing it now. But this also speaks about Williams’ maturation and decision-making. You want to be great? Then get serious. And if you’ve already tested positive, wake up. If you’re in the NFL’s substance abuse policy program and still testing positive? There are bigger issues. On Friday, Williams was talking about being a leader and now this. That’s not leadership. Remember, this is the first guy this current regime drafted. Talented as heck, no doubt. He's played well the past three games. But talent alone only takes you so far. If you want to go far, that is. He's a team captain, too. Not sure how that happened.
They got a pass for failing a test during or in the immediate aftermath of the lockout. Normally, the 2nd offense is a 4 game suspension, and the 3rd is a one year. These idiots are flirting with throwing their careers away.
What doesnt make sense is that they failed their second drug test sometime before the lockout last year (during TW's frist year) and were not suspended. Then they failed their 3rd drug test after the lockout and 4 week grace/detox period and got a 4 game suspension.

Fred Davis, Trent Williams of Redskins suspended for failed drug tests - Jim Trotter - SI.com

Whats really really sad is that they both had somehow already got really really lucky in not having one drug test count against them and then they failed again. When they were smoking weed prior to failing the 3rd time they were doing so while knowing that if caught, at a bare minimum they would be suspended for 4 games and potentially up to a complete year. They also were smoking weed while a suspension for their second failed drug test was hanging over their heads. And when they were smoking weed prior to the second failed drug test they were doing so with the forehand knowledge that if caught they would be suspended for 4 games (which somehow they ended up getting out of).

Trent Williams had been in the league for 1 season when all this happened. Does anyone think that TW wont get caught again? He hopefully has 10 more years to not get caught.

Yep, pretty stupid by those two. I mean it's your job. Hey, even if you are in your lower twenties it's just stupid. You get caught twice but still continue know you have a suspension over your head. Dumb.

Re: Report: Fred Davis, Trent Williams suspended four games

Listening to ESPN980 right now- Chris Russell reporting that the NFL wanted to suspend them both for an entire season, but a settlement was reached with skins/NFLPA that got them only four games. Grey area due to the lockout/grace period.

Lots of conflicting reports about the timing of their 3rd violations.

Ok so this is Davis's 3rd drug test failure. I'm presuming thats over his whole time in the NFL and not him taking 3 tests over the summer and failing all 3.

But I have not heard that TW has had 2 previous drug failures in the NFL so why is it they both get the same punishment? One would think that if it's the typical punishment for a failure to get a 4 game suspension then shouldn't Davis's be more strict? or are they both at #3?

Whats pretty bad is they get out of college and get a job, a job that pays them really good, a job that many of us could only wish we could get, and knowing the rules decide to ignore them and use a banned substance. Now they are gunna be faces with losing money for each game they didn't play in.... do you all think it will stop them or will they take it in stride and use again? I always find it funny how people will be on probation, have jail time hanging over their heads, and they know they can't break the law or can't do something specific or they will have to do the 40+ years and they do it anyway. Why? and if you decide to do it don't boo hoo later about your jail time. You knew what would happen and you didn't care then.

They're both at #3. Knuckleheads.

At least they get to serve their suspensions during the last quarter of a lost season. But, Fred Davis is in a contract year and is one of our few playmakers. Big decision as to what we do with him.

As for Trent- so disappointing. This is the #4 overall pick, and in a little over a year with the team he's failed 3 drug tests.

This is pretty disastrous. I hope they both get their heads screwed on right.

I think we all have self-destructive tendencies to some extent but the kind that totally jeopardize careers are always a big worry...

As for Davis, I wouldn't be opposed to a incentive contract w/ stipulations on failed drug tests. Maybe we can get a friendly contract out of this.

If he doesn't like it..fine..go somewhere else.

I'd prefer a 1 year "show me" kind of deal. He's not gonna get a huge money deal now, or at least I don't think so. And I certainly wouldn't franchise him. Too much money.

Agreed...I would hope this would wake him up but the first two failed drug tests didn't. Unbelievable, really. Dude lost a ****load of money over some weed.

I suspect they'll give him a deal with considerable stipulations in place. But there will be other offers from other teams that may not be as worried about giving him such a contract.

But it'll be really interesting come this offseason when they're negotiating with Davis and with Landry (who, and I don't like to speculate, but I'm pretty confident in this info, is one strike away from 3)
