Boy is Rogers a crybaby. If Hands of Stone had played better he would have earned an extension a while ago.
Hell, a pick 6 in Seattle would have made him a legend but he literally dropped the ball. |
re: Mega-Merge: 2010 Free Agency Rumors and Reports Thread
My guess is that even thought Rogers was tendered that he will be traded for a 3rd and another lower pick. He's unhappy and the Skins don't want to keep an unhappy player. Maybe Rogers for Cromartie?

or maybe they tell him to shut the hell up, stop whining and go earn a contract, and he listens... wishful thinking I guess.
Is it not true that the Colts (for just one example) try to build from within? It seems to me that the Colts rarely make big free agent splashes. They draft folks, develop them, and then at least try to pay them for services rendered over time. To be fair, they don't pay everyone and a number of Colts have walked to other teams. But, in general, rather than shopping outside of the organization for free agents, they try to draft people, develop them, and then give them market-value second contracts whenever possible. Such a dynamic rewards player loyalty with organizational loyalty. Is this not true?
re: Mega-Merge: 2010 Free Agency Rumors and Reports Thread
Jet's are extremely interested in Antonio Cromartie
Antre Rolle is asking for $8 million a year which is more than Troy Polamalu, Ed Reed, and Adrian Wilson. And the Cardinals are shopping Boldin for a 3rd round pick, the catch is that he wants a new big deal which the team willing to trade their 3rd has to get him or else he'll be pissed. |
re: Mega-Merge: 2010 Free Agency Rumors and Reports Thread
3rd rounder for Boldin is good if a team has the money to throw him a new deal
bmore maybe |
re: Mega-Merge: 2010 Free Agency Rumors and Reports Thread
3rd rounder for Boldin is good if a team has the money to throw him a new deal
bmore maybe
It starts with a 3rd rounder but he'll most likely end up going for a second. It's kind of like the $20 auction game. At the beginning a person puts a $20 bill up for auction for people to bid. The catch is the highest and second highest bid have to pay. Everyone starts out bidding but eventually the bid gets above $20 and people start thinking about minimizing their losses. I learned about that in "How to negotiate Rationally." The $20 auction and the dynamics of conflict « Confluence: Ben Byerly's Muddy Mix
By the time the auction reaches $19, most bidders drop out. The person who had bid $18 will invariably bid $20 to break even. Presumably, that would bring the auction to a close, right? Wrong! One professor who utilized the Dollar Auction as a teaching tool for more than 20 years said that the bidding will usually continue well past the $20 mark. Consider this case in point, a day the professor will never forget. He used the dollar auction while teaching a course for executives in organizational behavior. At the end, the “winner” paid $54 for the twenty dollar bill. The loser paid $53. The rest of the class watched the futile bidding war with bewilderment and glee. (Proceeds would be donated to charity).
So whats the point? Well when you have an attractive barter chip and it starts out at a low price more people are willing to take a long hard look at it, eventually more bidders leads to an increased price. In short, asking for a third rounder in exchange for Boldin is very smart. |

Boldin for a 3rd Denver wants a 1st for Brandon Marshall, and both want new contracts.

Ok I have a question for anyone who may know the answer.
What will happen next year with all of the tendered players? You can only recieve the tender once correct? So all of these guys who do not sign long term deals will become UFAs at the end of the 2010 season. Is this correct? |

re: Mega-Merge: 2010 Free Agency Rumors and Reports Thread
The Rams are reportedly "seriously considering" placing the lowest possible tender on restricted free agent FS O.J. Atogwe.
The tender is called "right of first refusal," and would allow St. Louis to match any offer sheet Atogwe receives, but give the team no draft pick in return. The Skins have coveted this guy for years, with no compensation to sign him, its a NO BRAINER he is the best FA FS. |

re: Mega-Merge: 2010 Free Agency Rumors and Reports Thread
Well if he was coveted by us before Haslett got here then I am sure he still is.
Just heard on NFL radio though that they have until June to make on an offer to him. There is some kind of clause in the CBA the NFL will be working off of come tommorrow. So I wouldn't expect the news on him to come down anytime soon. |

re: Mega-Merge: 2010 Free Agency Rumors and Reports Thread
Matt Mosely is ahead of the curve when it comes to speculation concerning the Redskins. Instead of talking about Snyder making moves he mentions Shanahan. Personally I'm tired of the media making it look like Snyder is running the personnel side of things at this point in time. Only problem with Mosley though is no mention of Allen who will probably be putting together the contracts.
"This is a difficult team to get a grasp on in terms of what they might do in free agency, but I think it is safe to say that ownership will not hold Mike Shanahan and company back from opening up the check book and signing (and even overpaying) players whom they desire. ... Agreed. It's like give the team the benefit of the doubt. There has obviously been a major overhaul in the front office, and two people (BA and MS) have been given the power to make all football decisions. You would imagine that some things may be changing, and that maybe they should used the same overused cliche's they've used on this team for the past 10 years. |

Well, it has always been said that Shanny has the final say so in a way he is pretty accurate. I have no doubt that this is Shanahan's show with Bruce Allen offering plenty of input along with handling the fiscal side, and Snyder being consulted on the dollar amount that can conceivably be commited to players. That does not seem like a dysfunctional process to me. Isn't this now New England does it? |

If we do sign Dansby, it seems like the idea there would be that the long term contract we are giving him would be the long term deal that McIntosh should get.
On principle, I am against this. But in reality, Dansby is a better anchor on the interior than McIntosh will be, and great 3-4 ILBs are always in high demand. It would not be a bad move. |

I think his tender offer suggests such a conclusion.
I imagine the guy who replaces Fletcher in the defense will be Blades or someone younger than Blades. I don't like the idea of having two ILBs around the same age and experience level, because if they happen to decline at the same time, you have a gaping hole in the middle of your defense at a position that won't really show up on film to be discovered. |

re: Mega-Merge: 2010 Free Agency Rumors and Reports Thread
The latter option has fewer holes. I don't like the ILB combination in the first option. So I would take the second.
Peppers and Orakpo are quite the dominant OLB tandem, though Alexander/Wilson and Orakpo aren't a bad deal at all. |
re: Mega-Merge: 2010 Free Agency Rumors and Reports Thread
I dont know how Blades would hold up as a 3-4 ILB. Sure, Fletcher is undersized and has done well as a 4-3 MLB, but even he's questionable to hold up well as a 3-4 ILB. I'm not saying Blades couldn't do it, i just wouldnt count on it. But i get what youre saying about not wanting two guys with the same age and experience level.
