Yeah, Sanchez didn't have an impact. Stafford didn't have an impact. Eli didn't have an impact his first year. So on and so forth.
I don't know how you measure Stafford's impact, but I'm going with wins. And Sanchez had the best defense in the NFL, still he had a very uneven season.

Look, I don't want to take anything away from those guys, but when you look at the QBs coming into this league on the whole, those you cited are the exception, not the rule.
Interesting theory I think Mechanix had on using McNabb to move to #1 to get Bradford. Don't see it happening though.

Major props to Jay Glazer for being on top of this. He's one of the best in the biz. I shouldn't have doubted him.

I don't know yet how I feel about this. I have a great deal of respect for McNabb, but I'm concerned that this could mean good-bye for Sexy Rexy! Seriously though, I think McNabb has two to three strong years left in him. And hopefully here he'll get the run support he didn't get in Philly. I gotta think they're still looking at a QB toward the later rounds though.

I'm not usually too surprised by moves the Redskins make since I generally get a heads up on things that are brewing. I would say, with very little hesitation, that I have never been as surprised about a Redskins move in the last 10 years as this one.

So, do we like this better than getting Cutler last year?
In that context yes I guess.

So, do we like this better than getting Cutler last year?
This is a better trade than Cutler because we didn't pay the ridiculous compensation for the player.

But the principle mistake of assuming that the grass is always greener on the other side hasn't changed.

Still, landing a top offensive tackle at No. 4 can make our offense greatly improved no matter who is behind center (McNabb, Campbell doesn't really matter).

Where this trade is a killer is in future seasons when McNabb simply isn't good enough to be an NFL quarterback, but we give him a Delhomme type extension. The 2010 Redskins probably aren't any better or worse off, the 2011-2013 Redskins are a LOT worse off now than they were yesterday.

Yeah that's why I posted that I figured that we had to have a deal pretty much in place or we were stuck.. unless some team misses their first couple of QB options in the draft

I see us drafting Okung now, OR trading down and getting more picks as well as Charles Brown. I also think that we DON'T Draft a QB this year, But next year.

No, we'll draft a QB and Colt Brennan will be gone.
I must say this is very reminiscent of a Snyder move. Giving up a high draft pick for a big name vet past his prime.

McNabb notoriously underthrows receivers and can't create with his feet anymore. In fact I'd argue that JC is more mobile that DM right now. Unless that line gets a ton better, we've come nowhere with this. I wonder what all the lovers would be saying if it was Cerrato who made this same move?

I'm still undecided, but I'm leaning towards not really liking this, especially since we'll probably give him a lucrative extension as well. With this move, I now forsee at least a few current players traded before the draft.
Several current players have been shopped around for weeks now. I'm not sure the trade changed that much.

Doesn't he have only one year left on his deal? If the Vikings gig was available in 2011, wouldn't you take it??

Yeah it cracks me up I'm totally new here and I've already gotten into 2 disagreements with the administrator. Gotta give me props for not coming in and just kissing up though :)
I live in DE and listen to a lot of Philly sports radio (I'm a Phillies/76ers fan)... and a lot of the complaints in Philly are that after 2 injury plagued seasons in a row, he started playing safe and lost his edge that would win more games. I dunno man.

Thank christ...we gave up the second and a third or fourth next year, pretty fair for both involved. I am just thanking our lucky stars we didn't send this years 1 and next years 1 or something like what Vinny would have proposed.

Well, I think losing our 2nd rounder increases the urgency to acquire more picks in this year's draft. Drafting McNabb as a 2 or 3 year band-aid doesn't change our need for a QB of the future, and we still need plenty of help in other areas.

I forsee any combination of the following players traded: Carlos Rogers, Jason Campbell, Laron Landry, and Chris Cooley.

Good point. If it came down to Shanahan not wanting Campbell at all then I think this trade is better than drafting one of this year's QB's.

Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!

I'll admit McNabb is better then JC at reading defenses but otherwise he's a lateral move. He and JC are about equal in stats and McNabb had a better OL. I'll always take the younger guy.

Make a trade Shanny and move up to #1 for Bradford.

I don't have to root for him till September. At that point I will be over it, but for now, I am hoping this all works in some mysterious triple reverse, back flip, flee flicker that results in us having 10 picks this year, plus Bradford and Okung.

It's almost a given that we're going to draft a QB at some point. But there's no question they are assembling a win now team.

It may be new management, but the goal has remained the same. I concur with the idea we might move Cooley and Campbell soon.
world is over in 2012, happy now?
Not soon enough ;)

The 2010 Redskins aren't worse with McNabb than Campbell, but I mean, no evidence I can find suggests they are better (like, meaningfully so). And with that in mind, the only thing this does is takes a bold risk where perhaps a more conservative draft building approach would have sufficed.

I think McNabb is a better fit here than plenty of the alternatives, but the bottom line is that we're buying name recognition. The big move comes at No. 4, as this is insignificant to that.

Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!

Stupid, stupid, stupid. McNabb doesn't necessarily make us a contender automatically. He couldn't get the job done last season with a superior WR corp than we have. We needed that #37 pick to shore up the line or get a possible new franchise QB. It is a gutsy move and I like it, but I don't think Donovan is such a head and shoulders imrprovement over JC since our team is inferior to Philly in many depts.
