also did anyone notice that Tannehill?
NFL Videos: Catching up with Cousins

don't pay any attention to the interview with Cousins; pay attention to the footage of the WRs running the Gauntlet

Tannehill was the first QB throwing in the WR Gauntlet and guess who was standing right behind him watching him make every throw?
Our very own QB coach Matt LaFleur

Yeah pretty easy to see him as the face of a franchise, just hope it's here. :)

I guess it all depends on if we really want Manning

I really like RGIII, but I would love Luck instead and so do 62% of people on NFL.com:

Should the Colts consider taking RGIII with the No. 1 pick?

Scares me too. If I were his QB coach, I wouldn't let him take the field until he mastered the art of sliding. I'd give him the Willy Mays Hayes treatment and make him do 20 push ups on the field every time he took an unnecessary hit.

Speed kills. See Michael Vick and the number of games he misses each year.

RG3 has a lot of a bigger built body than Vick does. I am not suggesting that he purposefully takes vicious hits like Vick takes, but I think RG3 can take them better because he is bigger.

True dat. Plus he has a different playing style than Vick. RGIII is less of a run-first QB.

Guess he's trying to beat Cromartie's record of 9 kids...lol
As for the children and the women, the life of Cromartie is instructive. Cromartie is an incredibly gifted player who has been dogged for years by the drama in his life from of having nine children by eight women in six states.
“I know we haven’t decided what to do with him,” an AFC executive said. “We might take him off our board. I know there will be three or four teams that will take him off right away, at least for the first round.”

Said an NFC team executive: “You want to hear if he has a plan to deal with it. He might convince you that he has it under control.”

What’s the likelihood of that?

“I wouldn’t expect it to be real high,” he said. “Most of these guys don’t know what to do with the first dollar they make. If this kid could follow a plan, he wouldn’t be in this situation in the first place. … I know this movie. It usually doesn’t end well.”
Still, a QB shouldn't be taking a pounding like that. Cam took some crazy hits last season. And while his frame may be able to take the hits, it doesn't mean that he can't get hurt if he takes a helmet or shoulder to the knee.

A lot bigger? He has Vick by about 8LBS. Tebow's a big boy, but even suffered a punctured lung against the Pats and wouldn't have been able to play in the AFC Championship if they beat the Pats. RGIII is going to get hurt and hurt often if he doesn't change the way he plays. "Seems to run directly into contact" is one of the red flags on him, and he may have similar speed to Vick, but not the shiftiness.

I know he's not a run first guy, but people seem to be getting a little too excited about his ability to extend plays with his feet. I like it too as long as he becomes an expert in sliding and running out of bounds. Otherwise, he will become an injury liability.

Rothlisburger and Romo extend plays and they aren't out hurt every week. If he "runs directly into contact" why is he not seen as an injury liability? Why are we getting too excited about his ability to extend the play with his feet? 4.41 40 time not fast enough for your liking?

Speed kills. See Michael Vick and the number of games he misses each year.
There is no doubt that Griffin is a fearless/borderline reckless runner in the same vein as Vick or Jake Locker.
Griffin is gonna have to learn to pick and choose his spots and show better judgement on when to take a hit to get extra yards vs when to get as much as he can and get down before contact.
Its a function of decision making, Cam Newton is an excellent decision maker in this regard.
For as much as Cam runs its his ability to avoid taking hits that I find impressive.

But I think you're going to far when you imply that Vick's injuries are due to his running and that Griffin would have a similar injury history.
Its an easy assumption to make but the accuracy of the assumption is what my eyes and memory tell me to question.

How many of Vick's injuries occured in the pocket vs outside the pocket?
I recall Vick gettin hit in the pocket this past season.
[YT]hl2uv0f2iFo[/YT]
Which makes me question how many of his injuries are a direct result of his scrambling?
How many of Vick's injuries are due to recklessness more then the actual scramble itself?

Or maybe Vick is just injury prone much Matt Schaub a pocket passer with a similar injury background.
I think by and large the more injury causing hits happen inside the pocket then outside the pocket.

Romo slides and Big Ben is a lot bigger and so is Cam Newton. Someone said RGIII was a lot bigger than Vick, when he's actually a whopping 8 LBS heavier. No one cares about Romos and Ben's 40 time. And the Mannings, Brady and Drew Brees can extend plays too without running head on into traffic.

All I said was I'd make sure to emphasize sliding and getting out of bounds if I were the QB coach for the team that drafted RGIII. And no, I don't care how fast he is. I rattled off the last 12 QBs to win the Super Bowl, and none of them won because they were fast.

I don't have it handy, but I did read that one of the few red flags was that when he did run, he didn't make much of an effort to avoid contact. He suffered a concussion on a running play while attempting to slide and had the season ending knee injury on another.

As a matter of fact, you can read some concerns expressed here about him holding onto the ball too long taking unnecessary hits and some issues with fumbling.

Robert Griffin III, Baylor, NFL Draft - CBSSports.com - NFLDraftScout.com

Again, all I said initially was that sliding and getting the hell out of bounds would be priorities #1 and #2 in his development plan.

RGIII is still putting weight on his frame. He's filled out some just since the end of the regular season. He'll get bigger.

But your basic point is correct: any team that spends a #2 pick on RGIII has to teach him to guard his health.

Fair enough. Just watching Vick play though, he seems to take a lot of punishment on running plays that may not necessarily take him out of the game, but may impact his production. I like RGIII, because he seems capable of being an elite passer, not because he's fast and can jump high. All I'm saying is that his mobility is only a bonus if he can avoid contact as much as possible. As a starting QB, he would be too valuable to miss games.

I'm still gonna go on record and say if we weighted Vick right now he would be closer to 200lbs if not under it.

MTK 02-27-2012 10:02 PM

RGIII is just more solidly put together than Vick, and he'll undoubtedly put on more good weight as he gets a little older and fills out.

A lot of good points made in that article. I agree that a change is needed as well, and I think it's a horrible idea that they are trying to turn the Combine into more of an entertainment spectacle. That's the one event a year where the focus is solely on coaches, FO types, etc. evaluating players. Don't turn it into something stupid that offers no evaluation to the coaches while making it more fan friendly.

I like that idea. The 40 is nothing more than a spectacle anyways, what part of it applies to what players do on the field anyway? How many players on the field run in a straight line for 40 yards at full speed anyways? Linemen shouldn't even have to run it anyways.
