Re: Looking at the draft.
Switching up my stance. I'm off Mayfield @ pick 13.
Partially because its rumored that he won't be there but more because I've been watching more YouTube cut-ups and I think Lamar Jackson is the sleeper prospect in this draft and if he's there at 13 you gotta take him. |

I agree 100%. The guy would have to gain like 20-30 lbs before I would even considering putting him out there. Guy is built like RG III, maybe even slimmer, plus his stats melt away when he is up against primo competition most of the time. He wouldn't have been so prolific in the SEC or even the Big Ten. |

We need RB, WR, and DB upgrades before QB. No decent running game=no playoffs for the foreseeable future. Also, the more I see of this QB class, the more I think it is overhyped. |
Re: Looking at the draft.
To Ivar and refutable...how much of Lamar Jackson have you watched?
Since it appears we're not having a discussion and just posting 1 liners here's mine: Lamar Jackson is Aaron Rodgers. |
My one liner is: I think it was a mistake not drafting a QB a few years ago.
Lol, the irony is that you probably think your one liner is a dig against me when it's actually a dig at the poorly run front office for a QB debacle that some of you had your head too deep in the sand to deep to see.
So yeah, it's funny that they haven't drafted and developed QBs over the past few years. |
Re: Looking at the draft.
With so many areas of need and the depth of this draft, trading back from 13th for additional picks is probably the best plan for the Redskins. I said the same last year, however, but somehow Allen fell to us and it was a no brainer. Sometimes a chance at an elite starter outweighs multiple shots at good starters. With that said, I've started thinking about who are the guys in this draft I would take at 13 over a trade back. There are at least 10 other guys if be very happy with at 13, but feel like we could still get if we traded back, they're not at a position of need, not a great fit, could get close value to at same position with a later pick, etc. Here's my list:
Barkley B. Chubb Fitzpatrick Nelson Edmonds Smith Ridley Payne Vea Do you agree? What does your list look like? Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |
Re: Looking at the draft.
Agree with trading back, a move to trade down and recoup a pick to help with the loss of Fuller would be wise. Fitzpatrick, Smith, and Payne are the three who are most appealing for me, personally, but there are others for sure. Ultimately I'm a fan of having more swings of the bat. Moving down to acquire more assets is a good move, if there's a willing trade partner.

I'm all for trading down too. Mainly because there aren't many difference makers at positions of need for us available in FA. So we'll to find some of them in the draft. |
Re: Looking at the draft.
IMO, there is no way to assess if we should trade back or not until we see if there is a difference-maker available at #13. Remember how lucky we got in last year's draft when Jonathan Allen fell to us.

Yeah almost all trade downs occur when you're on the clock. I think that's what we all mean when we say look to trade down. |

To be completely honest my judgement may be tainted by the fact I have very little knowledge of college football talent. So, yeah, a lot can happen between now and the moment we're on the clock. But the way I see our needs (#1WR, RB, LG, DT/NT, CB - btw what are we waiting for to sign Zach Brown?), and the lack of exciting opportunities in FA, I think 3 or 4 picks in the first 3 rounds could be better than just 2 as it stands now... |
Re: Looking at the draft.
Vita Vea gets more attractive at 13 almost daily, I trust Mayock, a Dancing Bear (freak).

Re: Looking at the draft.
“As far as interior offensive line class, the top end of it’s really good," Mayock said in a conference call on Monday.
Notre Dame guard Quenton Nelson is a likely top-10 pick and one of the safest players in the draft, and after Nelson, Mayock said there are seven interior linemen who project solidly to go in the top three rounds. The top spot on our list is a no-brainer. Nelson is the best lineman in the draft, arguably the top lineman in the country, and the only offensive lineman in my Top 10 list (third on that list). I have raved about him throughout the season, and he should be a top-10 pick in the 2018 draft, if not a top-5. He plays with elite power, technique, and awareness. He has agility and balance in pass protection, and all the “nasty” you could ask for. This would solidify our o-line and solve our power running game woes. With all of the reaching that happen every year for qb's and that Nelson is a guard, this guy could be there at 13. At 6' 5" and 345 pounds he is described as mean. |

At 6' 5" and 345 pounds he is described as mean.
Totally agree with all of this. I am very hyped about Vita Vea, but if Nelson is there, I think they have to take him. So many reasons why: 1. Immediate starter at one of very few clear starter holes on the roster. It's a big roster need and a starting role that could and would be vastly improved. 2. He would be an every down player so he would have the biggest impact on this team year 1 day 1. (Vea would likely rotate and play less reps overall for example) 3. Our running game would definitely improve, especially on short yardage plays, dude knows how to blow a hole into a wall of defenders. 4. It's a long-term lock down of a position. It's generally not hard to afford to keep you're talent on the line long term, especially guard. 5. He's a for sure starter, probably pro bowler early, and is a sure thing long term. WRs, RBs, DBs, etc have a higher bust/career altering injury probability 6. Equivalent talent in FA is very freaking expensive and frankly there's probably one. 7. There are some good guards to be had in the first few rounds, but he's probably one of two impact guards in the draft. Others might be solid to very good starters, but there's only a few guards in the league who's elite abilities are profoundly impactful in making plays, he has that kind of talent. 8. We would arguably have the best LT in the league, a top 5 or so RT, best 1 or 2 RG in the league, and potentially a top 5 LG. Not to mention a very good young C. LG has been the achilles heel of this unit for years, he would round out the true Hogs 2.0 Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |

Cooley broke him down on the show the other day and really hyped him up compared to his initial observation and statement pre-breakdown. He doesn't have the moves that Payne has, but essentially should be able to take a center or guard and put them in the QBs lap. Freakish size and strength. Next to Allen and Ionnidas, he would be unbelievable. Caveat is, I think Payne would be a solid pick as well and definitely has more twitch. |

Guice
4.49 40! That is the guy I want at 13, F it. |

Rashaad Penny ran 4.47, Redskins meet with him yesterday. Could see him being a realistic pick for us in the 4th if we miss out on the early round guys.

Ha, never predict anyone to be that good lol. Half of Faulk in his prime is still our best RB. |
Re: Looking at the draft.
Chark, Callaway, and Kirk all looking like good options today for what the Skins are looking for at receiver I think.

Still can get Chubb or Michel or Jones in the 2nd probably. Or Tim Settle. I hope we pick up a good G in free agency, because it will be hard to turn down a RB and DT with the first two picks.
