Yes, fuck states and cities. Those assholes deserve nothing.

You know, if this British strain is really as bad as they say it is, maybe our President/American Hero should ban flights from the UK before it comes over here.

If he did that I would actively applaud his decision making (in this one case) to protect Americans from the virus.

Put Gavin Newsome at top of list along side Cuamo as policy failure in dealing with Covid. Time to own it

looking at deaths per million the US lines up with most of Europe (Germany being the notable exception - but they are a heavily disciplined state that believes in "ordnung" above all) stats from https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

UK - 1,004 per
Italy - 1,156 per
Spain - 1,054 per
France - 932 per
USA - 986 per.

My point is not to praise or criticize, but only to point out that most multicultural freer Nations have been hard hit by this. We as a country were never going to go full lockdown, and we weren't not going to get hit.

a side note the us population is 331million approximately, we have conducted 237 million tests. I know I was tested 3 times total when I had an active case of it, so it is not a 1 to 1 number, but it also is a substantial amount.

Interesting, I never actually compared our mortality rate vs other countries, just focusing on us leading in total deaths by a lot.

I looked at country populations .. fucking A theres some population disparity.

1. China 1.43 Billion
2. India 1.38 B

3. USA 331 Million
4. Indonesia 273M
5. Pakistan 220M
6. Brazil 212M

I dont trust China or India to report actual numbers .. or even attempt to track actual numbers. theres no way China or India had less total deaths than us.

Also compare the mortality rate within the individual States (https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/)
Top 8 in deaths per 1mil pop:
NJ - 2,078
NY - 1,888
Mass - 1,713
NDak - 1,625
Conn - 1,600

Bottom 5
Vermont - 179
Hawaii - 199
Maine 225
Alaska 264
Oregon 328 note both Alaska and Oregon have NA under active cases and total recovered so I wonder about their stats.

A few interesting states:
NC 600
CA 589
FL 966, or about international average even with more lax mask usage
MD 913
TX 913
Washington State 430 - good for them!

One last comparison number -
CA pop 39M has 2 million cases, 787K recovered, 23K deaths.
Texas pop. 29M has 1.6 million cases - 1.3 million recovered, 26K deaths
FL pop 21M has 1.2M cases, 709K recovered, 21K deaths
New York pop 19M has 906K cases, 464K recovered, 37K deaths

Re: Coronavirus (political)

^^ I actually did that 2 days ago (looking at States and comparing). Then I read your post about mortality rate per country comparison. That led me to look up country populations.

Was surprised how well VA is doing compared to MD in the mortality rate per 1M residents. MD has 921 per (22nd worst), VA has 551 per (42nd worst out of 50). I consider VA the closest comparison to MD. I do think MD population is more condensed vs Virginia but still.

Outside of Richmond and the DC Metro area, VA has a lot of rural areas, I know because TMobile is trash once you get off the 95 corridor. Md has the Balt - DC - Annapolis triangle, which is one big suburban sprawl in the middle.

Still kudos to VA, I didn't look at its numbers. If we took out Md to NY from the US numbers, I think the country statistically would be in a far different standing. I don't quite get why the outbreak hit the MidAtlantic so hard, NYC/NJ certainly would seem to bear a lot of the blame.

edit: look at NYC vs NY State:
New York City
Total cases
392K
Deaths
24,768

New York State
Total cases
871K
Deaths
36,300

A better comparison would be MA based on demographics. VA has a much lower population density and rural population.

Mortality rate is a problem but from an economic perspective is the hospitalization rates are because they take resources away from people expecting organ transplants, surgeries, car accidents etc. I don't see that data and would love to see it if anybody has it.

If you look at death rates U.S. is ranked 12th but we jump all the way up to 7th in cases.
