If you keep him until another team gets desperate due to an injury or another coach's hubris makes him believe he can turn Howell into a star, then you might get considerable more than a late round pick, maybe even a couple of mid rounders.
I was thinking more along the lines of he would be #2 if we didn't grab a vet, but you hit the nail on the head; keep him if only for just this instance. |

Don't downplay the importance of a QB. The Chiefs don't win a playoff game without Mahomes. If Caleb Williams is even close to Mahomes in talent, I would sell everything to bring him in. The good news is leadership brought in a guy that coached both Caleb and Mahomes. If they do or don't trade for the 1st pick, it's probably the correct decision. Next question is how close is Daniels.
Agreed. Peters, Quinn and KK will be closest to the truth on Williams, Maye and Daniels than any of us. If they interview them right (and between them they have oodles of experience) then they'll have what they need to decide who to pick (and therefore whether to trade up to be sure of getting their guy). plus, what we see of all 3 is what the media is showing; unless any or all of them are great actors, sitting across from them and asking the right questions will illicit a strong picture of their character and potential. In the end, we all know the only way to be sure is when they get out on the field. Only concern for me is giving up too much in a trade that we then can't fix the rest of the roster, and worse, if that trade doesn't pan out. You don't want to sell your Ferrari and end up with a BMW (or worse) when you could have kept your Ferrari and still gotten a Porsche too. |

in 2022 vs Stanford Utah Arizona California The Bowl Game 2023 Washington Stanford Colorado Arizona State Justin Herbert didn't have a game in college that made you say OMG, had no problem getting drafted and we can all agree that robert getting hurt derailed him because that rookie season he was 100% looking like he was worth the hype. Every #1 pick is gonna get hype. I am not even saying trade up to go get him but people saying he is gonna be a bust because of finger nail polish, or because he cried when he lost is crazy. Stroud had a hell of a game vs Clemson, he also was playing with top notch college WRs, Caleb hasnt had that, holding that ND game over his head like its the end all be all is short sighted
Another thing that I don't get is the argument that, "he played w/ top notch wr's".. And so did Joe Montana. lol. You still have to process, read and throw accurate balls. Joe Burrow played w/ top wr's in college and he is still a hell of a QB. When Stoud sliced up Georgia that was a signature game that should have had him picked over Young I feel. We will see on Caleb. It wasn't just the ND game but we'll see. I do wish the kid well cause he is from here and I will always root for DC area players. |
I'm not ready to agree that Robert getting hurt derailed his career. What derailed his career was his ego and inability to deliver the ball on time to the right receiver from the pocket.
That didn't derail his career. His inability to play at a high level did. Guys come back from knee injuries all the time. He's kind of corny but I like listening to him doing media. But every now and then his narcissism comes out. |
We got enough cap space to upgrade a couple areas away from the draft. Between the draft and FA we can literally put a much better roster together quickly. Peters needs to save us.
We are Princess Leia and he is Obi Wan Kenobi. He is our only hope.
You realize that Peters has kept everyone that was under Ron, including Mayhew and Hurney. |
Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
Key is Ron isn't making the decisions anymore.
Peters worked with Mahew in SF, and it's too late right now to make big changes in the front office anyway. Ron did the same thing when he first came in, it wasn't until his 2nd year he started making changes. |
Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
Mayhew is a former Skin, I hope it works out for him. Always nice to have former players in the organization. He's now probably the happiest man in Ashburn, doesn't have Snyder or Rivera dragging him down. Possibility for a fresh start. Won't really know how it went until after the draft though.

Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
I think trying to hire a new scouting department and FO would be a disaster right before FA and draft. That said I am confident Peters has external people he is leaning on and Shen will work his magic.
I am not sold we are moving from 2 to 1 and I am not worried about it because if they are that confident the only way to get the only QB in the draft that will be elite caliber is to draft 1, that if you draft #2 you will not get an NFL caliber starter, then you have to do it no matter what. |

Under Ron is not the same as under Peters. Ron had zero business making personnel decisions. |
Two ACLs already in college.. Not good
Yeah I wish him all the best. Seems like a great kid, but I wouldn’t draft him unless he was sitting there in the fifth round or something. Injured a lot and I simply do not like lefties. Yes there have obviously been good ones but their motion seems so slow and unnatural it makes me nervous. Lol. |
Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
I get the feeling Penix is one of those guys that could be drafted much later than he's projected.

SI's Albert Breer pulled out the Kliff Kingsbury card during an interview for CHGO.
"Kliff loves, loves, loves, loves Caleb Williams," Breer said. "Kliff said to me on the record that the comparisons to he and Patrick Mahomes are eerie. It's eerie how similar they are." https://www.si.com/nfl/bears/news/caleb-williams-endorsements-make-bears-decision-obvious |
