Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
BJ was asking for 15 million a year. That absolutely has everything in to do with why he is still in Detroit. He is betting on himself, at age 37, that he can duplicate the results from this year, perhaps surpass them, and that someone is going to pay him what he wants after the next cycle.

Can he at least pay us back half the jet-fuel money? Go Packers, Bears, and Vikings (as long as Kirk isn't there)!! |

Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Here's a thought, why don't we look at the decisions we made that put the 2013 staff in place? What did we see in those young coaches that brought them here, because those guys have all gone on to success. That process is what we want to recapture and hopefully that's how Peters is approaching this. Once he finds his next HC, work with that guy to build a similar staff of potential HC's.
And on Johnson, has anyone considered that he might have told the teams at interview that he was considering staying with the Lions? That they knew in pursuing him that he may not want to leave (rather than not want to come). To me, all the negative press around his decision seems to be the media stirring up and creating column inches rather than driven by him or the teams chasing him. And now Slowik's said the same, is he going to get a torrent of abuse for not making himself available? I like the fact the team is saying schtum on the process, as any coach coming here will want to know they have his back. I actually doubt Johnson got scared off, he simply decided that his best opportunity in the next few years is with the Lions, and not that he didn't like our situation. For me, now it's McDonalds job to lose/reject. As long as he recruits an OC of the calibre mentioned above, I'll be more than happy if he's the next HC.
Nah, I think they interviewed Johnson and Slowik because they had to. They had proven themselves worthy, with what they have accomplished as coordinators. This ownership group was obligated to set up interviews to see if they were a good fit for this organization moving forward. The interviews probably didn't go as they expected and both parties sensed that. Schefter even was onto this a couple days ago - that just because the media was saying Johnson was a lock, that he probably wasn't even the favorite.... so while I agree that Johnson didn't get "scared off", I don't buy that he simply decided his best opportunity is with the Lions. He just wasn't the best candidate, he knew that, and he made the first move to take himself out of the running. My guess is Slowik did the same. |

As fans we see the taint of Ron and Dan all over him but he seems well respected in the NFL world and that cannot be underestimated. |

And he worked with Peters in SF Totally fine with Mayhew staying on |
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
I have no problem with Mayhew although if I'm honest I have no idea what he actually does.
Dan Quinn as HC on the other hand would destroy the little bit of hope I have that we are on the right track. He had his chance in Atlanta and blew it. |

Ron overruled him on some draft picks and had a specific type , you know the one, so it is difficult to know how much impact Mayhew had on tbe failures of the last regime. This close to the draft new GMs almost never clean house in the scouting department, wait until May for that. With no coaches in sight they had to send someone to Mobile. |

I like the take: https://commanderswire.usatoday.com/2024/01/31/washington-commanders-new-gm-adam-peters-ben-johnson-coaching-search-mike-macdonald/
But still prom season is coming to a close and I don't want to be stuck with Weird Ashley |
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Who’s out there that’s even sniffing being a great OC?
I can’t think of any. Most likely will be a retread proven loser Like Quinn. Say welcome back Scott Turner, or hello Brian Schottenheimer. If we’re lucky Peters will cajole Brian Griese away from 49ers and he actually turns into a great OC. I don’t see it though. Looking more like a typical Commanders patch job of people nobody wants anymore. This includes Quinn. Word on the street is Seattle is throwing the book at McDonald to land him today.
of of the candidates out there, Dan Quinn probably has the biggest list of candidates he knows for coordinators and position coaches. And that is by a lot due to his experience in the league. |

I respectfully disagree. If BJ had asked for a reasonable paycheck he would be our guy. I could be wrong, because who the hell am I, but I would be willing to bet that Peters absolutely wanted him to be the guy. Anyway, at this point I am praying for Mac. |
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
This is no way to live. Hire someone! I need to yell at the clouds.

Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
I am not buying the asking salary was the issue. If it was they wouldn't have been flying out to interview him a second time. I genuinely think this was a shock to the FO. It is possible it was smoke and mirrors to distract Seattle from Glenn or BJ said I am not going to negotiate but I am guessing there is a different reason he is staying put.
