IF we're keeping the 13th, then I'd say draft Maualuga if he's available. He's a football player and I think he'll play up to the standards of a perennial all-pro. If he's not there, I'd take an OT but I'd prefer to trade back and stockpile additional picks and maybe snag Mack.

“As for the stuff about him being on the ground, he does get a little overextended on some blocks. But sometimes he’s on the ground because he’s busting his ass trying to make a play.” I would still be worried about his technique, because with his technique (that he first learned in high school), he does overextend and gets off-balance. It's probably still a risk, in the minds of scouts as far as how effective his technique will be in the nfl. To some, unger may be a safer pick at Center. |

Mack is by far the top rated center in the draft. If you watch film of him, when he does fall, he's usually falling over the guy he knocked on his ass or it's away from the play where he has blocked his man and does'nt stop until the whistle blows. He does'nt make a block and then stop and stand there when the RB has gone by him. He continues playing. If he wasn't so aggressive and constantly going until the whistle blew, he would'nt fall as much, but you may notice he does'nt fall until the end of the play or at least until his man is out of the play. He DOES bust his ass trying to make plays. He opens holes and I really don't care if he does it on his knees. He opens holes. |
Re: I give you the first 12 picks, Give me your Redskins draft pick!
Can't imagine Mack would fall past No. 22, so any trade down situation would have to be ahead of that spot.
The only team that has incentive to trade up is Tampa Bay at No. 19, but that's a team that already gave away a 2nd round pick in this draft for KWII and is trying to rebuild the defense. Still, if they fall in love with Stafford, I think they'll seriously start loading up by the time he reaches No. 10 or 11 or so. We could shake them down for a 3rd and a 6th potentially for those 6 spots. Problem is, we'd have competition from Buffalo, who absolutely has incentive to trade down, and Green Bay and San Francisco as well. All those teams want to move down, but the Bucs might not have the ammo to get to those spots. Which could be good for us, potentially. |

His strengths are not in question - his agressiveness, his effort, and even his athleticism (I read that some scouts don't think he is athletic - i don't agree). What some may be questioning and may be unsure of is his technique. His falling down at the end of plays may have something to do with a difference in his technique, which was begun to be formed early on in high school. All of this won't be known until he plays in the NFL, which may be too much of a risky investment for some. Don't get me wrong with my perspective (and also some nfl scouts) on this - I like Mack as a player. But let's say it's the difference in his technique and this isn't as effective in the nfl (which isn't out of the question)- that means re-investing individual time and effort to change his technique. And who's to say, he is flexible enough to changing. This is what investing a draft pick really means. |
