Re: Samuels Out Next Week
I guess Rinehart didn't pan out but there had to be other offensive linemen available when he was drafted in the third round two years ago. The O-Line needs some strength training. I'd like to hear what Joe Bugel has to say about the O-Line.

I thought there was an article that four of the OL(Samuels, Thomas, Dock, not sure who else) trained pretty hard together in AZ prior to training camp. |

Heyer was there too wasn't he? |
I was watching that too last night. What it made me think of was that stretch run play in which we gave up a safety. I wonder how good our O line would be at moving the pocket laterally? I'm thinking not so good.
Agreed, though it might be something to try at practice. We still have issues with guard pulling it seems. |

That's the guy, I recall hearing that as well. |
Re: Samuels Out Next Week
I dont think it is an injury that can be fixed with time. He has Stenosis of the spine. That is progressive degeneration of the spine. Basicaly, the spinal canal is narrowing. If you watch the play, he barely gets hit and goes to the ground, seemingly with some degree of temporary paralysis. This does not bode well for future play.
Yeah, after reading some about it and former players who went from 100% to retired (Mack Strong, Michael Irvin among others) with this condition, I think we may have seen the last of #60 in the burgundy and gold. I'm not wishing that, of course, but you don't mess with a neck injury. If he doesn't come back after the bye (since his next appointment with the doctor is next week, I'm counting him out for Philly) then he's basically done. |
Re: Samuels Out Next Week
Really bad news from the Insider as well...
"Samuels plans to meet with physicians Tuesday to re-evaluate his injury, but after speaking with league sources the past two days, I expect Samuels to sit out the rest of the season and seriously contemplate retirement. When you start talking about spinal cords (Samuels has played with stenosis, a narrowing of the spine, since high school.) and possible nerve damage, well, Samuels is too smart to risk his future health. No player in that locker room is tougher or more dedicated to his teammates than Samuels; he's proven that time and time again, players said, but it's not as if he has a broken arm or a high-ankle sprain. We're talking about being able to walk." Redskins Insider - The Strain is Showing in Ashburn With Samuels out for the season/forever, I really don't know what happens to this team long-term. By the time the O-line is rebuilt, you have Portis and Fletcher who will definitely be gone, not to mention the unpredictable change that could follow at QB and HC. |
Re: Samuels Out Next Week
The good news is the front office will now be forced to address the OL. LT is now the highest priority for next offseason, with RG and RT close behind.

We're probably looking at 4 new offensive starters next year. Isn't Rabach in his walk year? Wow, things are going to be as busy as ever (if not more than ever) at old Redskins Park this spring. |

IMO the Giants have the best Oline in the league outside of Vikings. The Giants brought all their guys together basically around the sametime about 4-5 years ago. This could be a blessing in disguise if we take this seriously and get a young group of guys together. Im thoroughly disgusted with our FO and how this Oline issue was handled and this is the easiest reason to see why Vinny should be fired immediately. Surprised alot people who post here didnt see this coming or thought the Oline was a non-issue. So in moving on, I agree with Matt and say we need 3 new starters at on the Oline next year at LT, RT and RG. I just cant see Samuels coming back from this. Boy Reinhart, I had a feeling this guy was a joke. Good pick Vinny. Also Vinny, undrafted free agents make horrible depth and so far bad starters (Heyers). |

The thing that scares me most is the Campbell situation. Whether or not he's the answer for the future is pointless because we can't afford using ANY of our picks on a QB; we need to save them all for the O-line. My biggest fear is Vinny using all our picks to get Clausen or trading for someone else, leaving us screwed for another year.. |

We need 3 starters, but I'll bet right now we only get 1 or 2 at the most. Next year, they'll bring in someone to start at LT, keep Heyer at RT, and will either start Thomas at RG or bring someone in. This FO has no clue how to build a great OL, so I'll almost guarantee they throw in a player at LT to try and replace Samuels (if he does retire) and let the rest ride. It's not like this aging/injured OL is new this year. Sure, it's worse this year than it has been in the past, but Jansen, Thomas, and Samuels were injured a ton the last several years and FO didn't see the need to do any more than bring in an UDFA and replace Kendall with Dock . |

There's a clause in his contract that makes him a free agent this offseason |

Yeah, I heard someone ask the other day if they could name an O-line that was all that better than ours. I was confused because I can't name the starters on other people's o-line, except NYG. There are a lot of better O-lines than ours, IE: NYG, Indianapolis, just about any o-line in the NFL. There is a lot of wishful thinking in the FO and on here as well. Until those wishful thinkers are run out of the organization then it's going to be the same thing over and over again. Who couldn't see this coming a mile away? We KNEW this would happen. |
