Hmmm, so the question is "Would I trade a Pro Bowl caliber tight end for two unproven players?" With the way that this team drafts I would have to respectfully decline.

I would give up Portis for a second rounder in a heartbeat though.

Given two facts:
1) getting a 1 and a 3 for Cooley would be huge, and
2) most of the other players that posters want to ditch won't draw much in return

I say yes, trade the man, and turn the two picks into other offensive help
Both of these. Stupid thread.
Look man, it's a completely hypothetical situation, and it of course it won't happen. I was just interested in how people would react if faced with the choice of trading your best player for high draft picks to rebuild the team. Just like the Cowboys did with Hershel Walker.

There have been several thoughtful, persuasive arguments for and against such an idea. There have also been some responses of the kindergarten level, and some, such as yours, which are simply indicative of those with low intelligence.

With any internet message board, I've come to expect that. In any case, thanks (-- I guess --) for your contribution.

If trading Chris Cooley means we'll have two picks to use to get Trent Williams, then I say do it.

We'll already have another number one for another bad ass tackle. That's 1/4 of our problems solved.

In this scenario we would have 2 #1 picks, 1 #2 pick, and 2 #3 picks. We could turn these five picks into:
1 new qb
1 new halfback
2 new tackles
1 new guard or center

It seems pretty enticing to me.

But this assumes we'd do something intelligent with the draft choices we get for Cooley, and I just don't see any evidence of that in recent history.

Re: Chris Cooley for a 1st and a 3rd -- would you do it?

Please, there is no team out there that would make this deal with the Redskins.

But if there were, I'd make this trade in a heartbeat.

We also should trade as many veterans as possible for draft picks, build offensive and defensive lines through the draft, and only then draft players at skill positions. And only after all of that is done should any consideration be given to expensive free-agent pickups.

That's how the perennially good teams manage their personnel. It's what Danny Snyder has always refused to do. That's why Danny is the problem.

If you agree that this is the case, make your voice heard. Go to Danny Snyder Must Go Petition : [ powered by iPetitions.com ] and add your signature. Withdraw your support until Danny is gone, for the good of the team. Stop enabling Danny's mismanagement.

Have any changes ever come about as a result of online petitions??

With the way Davis has played these last few weeks I've been thinking more and more about this and I've got to say, as much as I love CC I really don't think it would be a bad idea to put some feelers out there to see if there is any trade interest during the offseason.

Can we really say we've lost much of anything in terms of TE production since Cooley went out?

NO!! Cooley, Portis, and Santana deseve to be here as the new pieces gel to compliment them which is what they were brought in here for.

No we haven't and we seem to run more exotic stuff for Davis. We use him downfield more it definitely seems.

I agree. It appears Vinny really isn't a bad judge of talent and I'll give him that, just drafts the right guys but at the wrong time when we have more pressing issues.

I don't think we'd be able to get a 1st and 3rd for a guy who went out with a broken leg, but I think even a 1st, or a 2nd+3rd could significantly help us in this upcoming draft. We have Yoder to block, Davis to catch and continue to improve his blocking. I don't think we're in any bad shape shopping Cooley. I do love him though, and he happens to be my favorite player on offense. It would be just too smart of a move not to do.

I'll probably finally get that Cooley jersey I've been asking for for Christmas this year, and a month later he'll be traded.

Re: Chris Cooley for a 1st and a 3rd -- would you do it?

I've been saying this for a LONG time. Probably around when this thread was created too.

He is the only player really worth anything. I highly doubt, however, that we will get a 1st AND a third. Best case would probably be a 2nd rounder. But as Matty said, it doesnt hurt to put out some feelers and get an idea of what Cooley's market value is.

No one is going to give a first and a 3rd for Cooley.

Re: Chris Cooley for a 1st and a 3rd -- would you do it?

Exactly, so the more important question.

How much is Cooley worth? As I said, a 2nd.
