Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Giants)
Not really trying to defend the redskins' performance last night, but I think there were too many distractions during the week (especially for the coaches).
There's not really any other way to explain how it went so bad so quickly from the last few weeks of playing well to the game last night. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Giants)
Well this sucked...
The First Drive Pretty much set the tone for the entire game. We were out-played and out-coached in every facet on that 10 hour, 100 play (sure felt like it) drive. They even ran the same play over and over again knowing we couldn't stop it. Truly embarassing Laron Landry Anyone else notice how he struggles in pass coverage? Pass Blocking by our Running BacksThe offensive line was weak of course today. No denying their performance was sub-par. But they got no help at all, not even some chip blocks, from our running backs (and that includes Sellers). I've said it before and I'll say it again what we most from Portis at this point is that he's the best blocking back in football. Anyone who actually thinks DeAngelo Hall action's justified Brandon Jacobs taking a swing at him No one here really believes that. So we don't have to worry about that Jason Campbell I know the protection was pretty putrid today. But the numbers don't lie...he threw two horrible interceptions that were his fault. Plus, how is it that Collins comes in and fires off two deep passes? I'll tell you why, because he wasn't afraid to take on 3rd string DBs, even in tight coverage. I think JC will and should be re-signed but quit playing scared. Make some throws. Santana Moss Spins more balls than Liberace. Just stop already Having to work with a bunch of Giants fans Thank goodness most people are on vacation this week I could go on and on here. We had the chance to really show something on national television tonight...and we did. Unfortunately
Let's not forget "The Swinging Gate" fake FG - perhaps the most putrid trick play that I've seen in 35 years of avid pro football fandom. I agree with Mike Wise that this appeared to be Zorn sticking it to Snyder. |
We played our best games of the year w/out Haynesworth. He is obviously a beast & can beat anybody WHEN he's in the game. During that opening drive, he was on the sidelines when the g men were inside the 5. The guy just can't be counted on for much.
I really wonder if he has caused the D to regress overall. Think about this, you're playing hard every play making 1/10 of what he does, yet he comes out of the game about any time he's tired or 'nicked up.' Then he's got the audacity to say he's not being used right! That's the reason some teams simply don't sign big name free agents, there is a chemistry transition. Look at every year the Skins have made a big splash in free agency, 00, 03, 06, 09. It hasn't turned out well that season. The only exception is maybe the D in 04. Hopefully, next year AH becomes part of the team more. He really looks like an independent contractor right now. (I will give him props for sticking up for Hall, but isn't that ironic, he sticks up twice for the dude that also got a big contract. I don't think anyone else is sticking up for Hall.)
signing a lot of free agents never works and over spending for one really never works. i think this will stop now that allen is here. |

i felt the same way as you but BHA makes good points i had the same conversation with credskins a few weeks back, and they are right he does play alot of snaps when he is in the game, he actually plays a fairly high percentage. i think what you are getting stuck on and so was i is that he got paid a shit ton and was most definitly over paid or atleast to much gauranteed, and the fact that he has the fake injuries to catch his breath. but if you look at the numbers there is no denying he plays hard and is in fact not soft for the record i still don't like the guy, but the player is growing on me |

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Giants)
ok, I didn't expect us to beat the giants, but I also didn't expect us to lose this badly either. Jason Campbell played like how I've always know him to play, scarred and conservative. I LOVE and completely agree with Smootsmacks statement about how Todd Collins went in the game and just slung it down field, where as jason is the screen dump off short passes type.
Laron is awful, I love how when he came out of college everyone was like "He's the next ronnie lott,... he didn't allow a touchdown catch his senior year" yeah well he's an NFL junior and he's allowed probably more TD's he allowed in college all his career, just in this season alone. Either move him to SS or trade him. Anyone notice that last night all Eli threw at was Landry, Smoot, and Tryon, and Orakpo but he's really a DE and he's a rookie so I'll let him go on this. Our D-line got 0 pressure on Eli last night. He had all day to throw on us last night. Daniels better be long gone next year, as should Wynn. Our OL played poor, but not awful, most in part to Jason who held on to the ball way to long. Fred Davis continues to impress me. Moss needs to go, he's lost lots of speed, but like Smootsmack pointed out he sure can spin that ball after he gets 5 yards. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Giants)
Well, they're the third best team in the division right now in terms of wins.
ESPN just ran a stat: Redskins are 15-32 against the NFC East since 2002. That's a pretty big gap if you ask me. We aren't anywhere close to threatening this division.
So that means that if you throw out the 5-1 fluke of 2005, we are 10-31 in all other division games since '02. That is Detroit Lions and Richie Kotite-Jets bad. I'm hoping that Campbell's pummeling led Bruce Allen to the immediate conclusion that the O-line must be addressed early and often in the draft. I would argue strongly that both the 1st and 2nd round picks should be O-linemen. Vinny would probably draft another TE or WR if he was the highest rated on his board. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Giants)
Can't say I'm really surprised that the team folded last night. Did I see it coming? No. But in hindsight I think the signs were there for a potential collapse.
Vinny stepping down, Allen coming in, Shanahan in the rearview, rumblings of coaches on the staff interviewing for the HC job and the resulting dissention amongst the ranks of the staff, it's not a surprise we got smoked. Finally, let's tip our hats to the Giants who came in and played like a team with a purpose. We were overmatched in every phase of the game.
The Giants did play with a sense of purpose while we managed to turn in our worst effort this season. Whoever the new coach coupled with Bruce Allen, have a tremendous job on their hands to get this team back to respectability. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Giants)
I am glad i didnt watch the game now. Zorn if he had any chance at coming back it is so gone.
That fake field goal play will forever be on the "Stupidest plays ever list" from here to eternity. Then you add that lame ass explanation That the Defense had great exacution thats why it didnt work. Thanks you DUMB FUCK!! |

what the hell was Wynn doing on the field last night? has he played at all this year? and what is Blache thinking suiting him up? wtf

We had a game plan that's called "fantacy football" experimenting with the unexpected. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Giants)
Although it got ruined by the timeout, I actually thought that the fake field goal was a decent design. Yoder, not Albright, was the long snapper, and because of the formation he was an eligible receiver. I think the idea was to confuse the G-men with massive movement on the left of the formation and then throw the ball to Yoder out on the right. It could have worked - but not once the Giants call a timeout and prepare for it. The element of surprise was lost. When the Giants called timeout we should have called off the fake.
