Are you guys kidding me? This is the guy the Raiders dumped for JC? This franchise is totally f*&^ed. You guys were in heaven with DM, now he has underperformed, so now you are ready to see if one of the lamest NFL Qbs in recent memory is up to snuff? Shit, I would take Frerotte back before that fat, lazy bastard!!!!!!! And for once I am totally serious. Hell, we should have kept Chase Daniel. He would have been better than Russell. OMG, we used to make fun of him all the time in here!!!!!
Chase!!!!!

I think what a lot of people are missing or choosing to ignore is that the reason a lot of us blasted the Raiders for having Russell was because they committed a # 1 draft pick and millions of dollars in this guy. We're not in that position. We brought in for a workout, if we sign him it would be for...wait for it...the vet min.

There's a huge (no pun intended) in making JaMarcus Russell your starter and committing millions of dollars in him and planting him at the end of your bench for relative chump change and see if he shows any signs of progress.

No one is saying he's going to roll in here (again, no pun intended) and become our starter and lead us to an 8 game winning streak then coast to the Super Bowl.

And Ghetto...preach!
No I don't have a hard time figuring out what this "fan" thing is all about. I just don't spend alot of time on "Cloud 9", so would you please send me a postcard while you're there? Just because I'm looking at things from a REALISTIC standpoint doesn't mean I don't understand what it takes to be a fan. Oh yeah jokes may not be my thing, but neither is kool-aid slurping. What is it like?
The reality is that JR has more physical talent than the NFL has probably ever seen from a QB, and he was drafted by a dysfunctional organization with a shitty line and no leadership. Nearly every single "expert" in the industry thought he would turn into something special -- in a few years. That was 3 years ago.
Right. Like Trent Green. Or, Tom Brady. QB talent evaluation is sure-fire, can't miss in the NFL.
Showing flashes IN real GAMES is what I meant. Not when they're drafted, not when they haven't played

Being forced on the bench and not playing at all is not the same as given the starting job and playing like shit. The former situation, the QB is not playing in games. In the latter, the QB is playing in games.

When Trent played, even my little 10-year old eyes could tell he had something special.

Brady lit it up and helped his team to a Super Bowl in his first season.

Russell had 2 years show AT LEAST SOMETHING, and he didn't. Actually, we stomped him into embarrassment last year. Rak would not have had 4 sacks if he wasn't a clueless bum out there.

Not only that, the talent-evaluators all had him pegged as the #1 freaking pick. Brady and Green were unknowns just trying to make a roster. With Russell, MANY EXPECTED A DAMN PRO BOWLER and instead got 2 years of shit. Sanchez, Stafford, Cutler, Freeman, all have been showing SOME SORT OF PLAY-MAKING ABILITY. Russell did not when he had his chance.
So if they do sign him, is it Beck or Grossman who will be gone?
my guess would be neither one....last pics i saw of russell lead me to believe that he would be a great fit beside haynesworth on the D line

So....anyone else realize we also worked out JP Losman

So Losman or Russell? Which would you rather have?

Does anyone know the other 19 players that were brought in for a try out?

Someone said they heard Losman was here for a work out also. Said they heard it on 980

Forget the details, you missed the point about QB talent evaluation.

Let me remind you that Al Davis benched Marcus Allen and Eric Dickerson for Nick Bell in 1992. Two Hall of Famers were benched for a scrub. It means nothing that he was benched by arguably the most dysfunctional organization in the last 20 years.

Russell because he's younger and at some point someone though highly of the guy. Kiper and McShay both had him the number 1 pick

I'd rather have it that we steal Matt Flynn from the Packers, bring back Chase, hell bring back Pineapple Jesus.

Ha I just posted that. Yes, Losman as well as Chad Jackson, Taurus Johnson (Grant Paulsen says he'll be joining our PS soon). I don't believe we worked out 19 today though. More like 9

I can't remember because it was so long ago but was Culpepper as highly touted as JR coming out of college? I ask because they seem to be the same type of QB except JR didn't work as hard.

No, you argued that because of all the coddling he got, he was oh-so-poor immature and that's why he played so poorly. That's a load of bull because there have been MANY recent QBs who have displayed play-making ability early in their careers.

Everyone knows he's physically talented; it doesn't matter because just like Ryan Leaf, he'll never get it.

And the dysfunctional argument? Another excuse as Grads and Campbell have been doing something despite Al's nuttery.

So, I didn't mention QB talent evaluation being hit-or-miss? I didn't mention that JR was drafted by a dysfunctional organization?

As for the fact that some people mature faster than others, you're right. Many recent QBs have displayed play-making ability early in their careers -- but, not all. Why? I don't know, but I'm sure that circumstances have some influence. Sounds to me like you don't think circumstances have anything to do with the development of JR.
