Re: Rex reporting for duty!

Don't bash me, but Rex is probably the best thing to happen to this team at QB in a long time. Here me out here.

He is a younger guy (30), who isnt demanding big money and has no illusions that he is going to be guaranteed anything. This is probably the exact opposite of most every player that has walked through our door in the last 10 years.

He is going to come to compete, and earn a job and a role on this team. That alone speaks worlds of difference between this regime and the old one, where players could just skip the workouts, do nothing in preseason, and come right in and get paid to be a starter. (Portis, Haynesworth, Adam Archuleta, etc....)

I'm starting to get excited again. I haven't been this excited since our 2005 playoffs. We finally have a team where guys have to earn their spots...

You forgot to delete the part you fact checked, and found factually incorrect.
I view Rex as this teams floor. Beck has more potential with his work ethic, mobility, and leadership however he's still unproven and if I had to be safe I'd take Grossman over Beck. Does that make sense?
Well I guess that is true in some respect. But I have to say that Beck could end up being a much lower floor. I guess we will see this thing play out in about 9 days.

Wow we are close to preseason football.....

Re: Rex reporting for duty!

Here is my opinion on Rex Grossman as our QB this season. I know John Beck is the talk of Shanny but they have to give him confidence and build Beck up. Remember Rex was a free agent and we wanted Rex back but at a reasonable price. So here we are with Beck a player that has had limited amount of game experience. Look if we picked a Rookie QB in the draft ( Ponder, Locker) they would be useless this season due to the lockout. With Rex we have a QB that has started in the Super Bowl and is in his 3rd season in Kyle offense. Rex has the played in the same amount of Super Bowls as McNabb has. I rather fix our defense this season improve our o-line and leave with Rex or Beck this season and draft a QB 2012. This is how you build a team people, I know as long time Redskins fans we are not use to this mode of operation. Get It Through Your Heads we are building our team for next season. We have been snake bitten when it comes to drafting a QB in Redskins Nation. The most recent QB's that we drafted that had some success other than JC was Gus Fuerrotte people. The days of going to the Super Bowl with a Trent Dilfer are over folks. We have to get a STUD at the QB positon and he maybe in the next 2012 draft. So dont worry how many games we when this season we just need to be better than last season and look for our QB of the future. Ride it out with Rexy or Becks and look at the Big Picture. HTTR

Re: Rex reporting for duty!

Rex Grossman is a great leader who will give the players on this offense opportunities to make plays....He's absolutely fearless and driven to succeed despite what many consider failures in his career. The only quarterback I can think of to play in a super bowl with less career starts at the time of the appearance is Tom Brady. I think Grossman will have more prolific passing numbers than Brad Johnson did in 1999. The Redskins are absolutely a sleeper team, I don't think anybody understands that Rex Grossman is a purely capable quarterback that really knows how to capatalize off the play action. I am very excited about what Rex is going to show to the NFL this season, not many are going to be ready for it.

One day the Skins are going to have a qb who will be able to lead them for a long time. One day the Skins will have a solid offensive line too. I look forward to those days.

No, I'm a lifelong Redskins fan from Florida, and I know that Rex Grossman is a very capable quarterback who just had a bad rep.....Kind of stupid the Bears just didn't stick it out with him after he led them to the super bowl his FIRST SEASON as a starter. It's okay though he will be validated soon when he's putting up huge passing numbers this season. Ask Santana Moss or Anthony Armstrong who they want to start I bet they don't say John Beck, they'll tell you they want a true gunslinger like a one Red8RexGrossman!

Re: Rex reporting for duty!

jonny5dicky:

For 2006 - - the year that Rex Grossman and the Bears made it to the Super Bowl - - here are some facts:

1. That was the ONLY year that Rex Grossman started all 16 games of a season. In every other season, he was either injured or benched for some of the games.

2. Even though I fully believe that the QB Rating scale is a flawed system, it can tell the difference between a "very good game" and a "very bad game". In the Super Bowl season, Rex had 8 very good games where his QB Rating was between 98.6 and 148. That is EXCELLENT!

3. In the same 2006 season, Rex had 6 horrendous games where his QB rating was between 0.0 and 36.8. [Point of reference: JaMarcus Russell on bad days had QB Ratings of about 40.] That is HORRID!

Those stats come from the Bears' Super Bowl Season; they are not cherry-picked from Rex's bad games going season-to-season or from the best games of his career.

My conclusion from that data:

At best, Rex Grossman is wildly inconsistent.

If you want to win those six games where his QB Rating is south of JaMarcus Russell territory, you had better have a dominating defense that can score points on its own AND hold opponents to 10-14 points on a regular basis.

In addition, it would be a very good idea to have a running attack that can give the defense some rest on those days when they are going to have to win the game...

I will say this J. It would surprise me not that Rex gets the start and the remainder of the preseason will determine. I have a hard time embracing your entire assessment of Sexy.....BUT I hope YOU are correct and I am wrong!!
