The "incentive-laden-deal" doesn't really makes sense here. Salary is plenty of incentive to begin with since it's not guaranteed. Plus Peyton has earned enough respect that he doesn't have to play for incentives. You can throw him a bone for a super bowl or mvp but otherwise there's no point. If he's on the field playing it's safe to assume his competitiveness and professionalism would follow.

It comes down to how much he wants guaranteed. I'd take money from future years salaries and give it to him up front as a roster bonus so the whole thing would hit our cap in 2012. I'd prefer to take the hit now when we have cap room and still suck. Allen has been constructing most of his deals this way (ie Monty). Pushing a lot of bonus money to future years is a bad idea IMO.

With inflation added. Whatever the cap when up by from last year to this year's $120.6, take that % increase and apply it to Newton's contract, with a slight adjustment downward given that Griffin is 2nd overall, not first.

I'll say 4/$23 M.

The cap went up (or is estimated to have gone up) by 0.2%.

The difference between Cam's contract and Miller's contract was larger than the relative inflation.

4/$23 is a pretty good estimate because while the rookie cap is rigid, it isn't so rigid that the agent for Griffin won't be able to use the size of the Redskins rookie cap and trade package to get a better deal than anyone in the draft got lat year.

The Redskins will also receive a club option for 2016 at the value of a transition (?) tag, but they have to make a decision to exercise that (which becomes guaranteed when exercised) before the start of the 2015 league year. To put that in perspective, that is where Stafford, Sanchez, and Freeman are right now in there careers. Do we yet know who the best of that class is?

It would help everyone if Griffin is very good very fast, because it makes sense if you know he's going to be your QB for a long time to get an extension done prior to the relevant contract option because you're going to have to give him a boatload of guaranteed money anyway, so itd be best if you can sign him long term with that money rather than committing to give it to him and still having to sign him.

Basically, your commitment to Robert Griffin as a function of this trade is three years. But we already knew that because we don't have a first round pick in 2013 or 2014, so it's kinda difficult to replace him with a Matt Barkley or a Tyler Bray.

I think Stafford and Freeman are at the same spot in their development (and they were the same prospect coming out essentially), but Stafford's team is loaded with talent and Freeman's is a big question mark.

This will blow your mind: Stafford and Freeman will both be the same age week 1 (24) as Ryan Tannehill and Kirk Cousins will. They're about half a year older in actuality, despite three years more experience as NFL starters.

The projection now adjusts for the $120.6 cap and confirms Davi's franchise tender. I also now believe I was double-counting the Monty contract. And finally, I upped the league min value from 375k to 390k, which changed practically nothing.

The result is [U]$34.2 million in cap room[/U] entering the unrestrictred free agent period, of which I am expecting 27% to go towards existing Redskins with expiring contracts.

I would expect Robert Griffin to account for about $5 million in 2012 cap dollars.
