Re: Gun Control Thread- Should we?
Thats hardly an accurate statement painted with a pretty broad stroke.
I could poke a million holes in that.
Alvin, what are you using to poke those holes? May I suggest an automatic weapon as you could shoot a million holes in the argument a lot faster. |

Seriously though...I quoted the wrong person
:laughing- nah uh...I hate it there! No worries, happens to the best of us! |
Ok so what's the intent of most firearms? Educate me. Outside of shooting targets for sport, there's not much else they're used for that doesn't involve killing humans or animals as far as I see.
I live in a very rural area where police response can be measured quite accurately with a calendar featuring kittens in a basket. Ok, any calendar... I'm not one to hide under the bed should someone come into my home that I don't invite and anyone on here should be able to vouch for how annoying I am. Someone out there must want to do bodily harm, right? |
Ever watch Alaskan State Troopers? You seriously need a gun out there. One cop covers the area of Maryland.

Every single firearm I have ever purchased was not purchased so I could use it to shoot at a human being. I'll estimate there are hundreds of thousands out there in America just like me. Their capability upon manufacture may be (among other things) to kill, it does not mean the owner will use it that way. Smith and Wesson doesn't give a rats ass about intent. Nor should they. Its a hunk of steel until the wrong person comes along. And you could say the same thing about my garden shovel. |
Shooting targets is fun and hunting is legal. Why should that be taken away from responsible people?
Bad guys will find ways to kill; heck look no further the 9/11; no guns used there
Ugh, I never said to take away guns. Why does everyone make the assumption that if you're for gun control you want to take away everyone's guns? More restrictions, tighter laws, and more enforcement is all I'm for. |

But a gun is a weapon. |

I also agree with your last statement. |

The same intent of nuclear weapons. Deterrence. [YT]DuhKCiY-lu0[/YT] |
Re: Gun Control Thread- Should we?
For all your claims that people freeze when confronted with these types of events, there isn't much evidence to support that. I think you all underestimate one's ability to survive and act. I do think it boils down to how comfortable you are with using a gun and training.

I have now determined this is a merry go round thread; I am out.

You are asking me to prove a claim I didn't make. Secondly, I'm showing you instances of this very proof you are asking for. Just go to youtube and search "robber gets shot" and you'll see quite a few instances where people act when confronted. Don't get me wrong, I've been on record with saying even if that whole theater was armed, it would have changed anything. You can't prove that. I'm not saying people will or will not freeze when confronted. I just think you all underestimate a human's will to survive. Take this guy. A old man who just got hit with a bat on the head and still have the ability to act. Not everybody is going to respond as such, but let's not sell out people so short. [YT]sNf8v4m5Vdg[/YT] |
