What about Niles Paul? I saw one comment earlier that confirmed my fears of him being unable to catch. I also see 1 catch and 3 targets on the stat line.
I've seen Cooley drop more than his share of balls thrown to him, AND he also led all TEs in fumbles over his brief career. Also, didn't we have this conversation last year about Hankerson? |
Re: Bucs vs. Skins Gameday Thread
232 rushing yards? damn Oline must have had a decent night too. nice
Helu has been nursing two sore Achilles for a few weeks. Things are apparently looking much better for him now. Check Smoot's post above yours.
I guess you missed my post where I said we originally got TH for Vonnie Holliday and a 6th rounder. Nobody is going to give up a high pick for him a year later coming off a knee injury. The Lions may have a need, but they're not dumb.
Hightower is better than anything they have though Matty. And the Lions need to have at least a decent running threat to keep the opposing Ds honest. I will backdown on the second rounder, but I still think a mid round pick is doable. Best is a bust straight up and Kevin Smith sucks. Do we really keep 4 Rbs? Helu, Royster, and now Morris show promise and are young. It is a shame if we just dumped TH, when we could get some pick for him. I know you think it will be a gamble on the Lions part, but they just do not have a running game to speak of. Hightower looked decent in his showing. |

We may, considering royster and helu are barely healthy and Hightower fresh off acl injury. |

Also, didn't we have this conversation last year about Hankerson?
I will be happy to be proven wrong on this. However from what I've seen myself and what I've heard from people who watched this last game it's not very promising for Niles Paul the receiving Tight End. Niles Paul the blocking tight end on the other hand apparently has some promise which is a moot point because while Niles Paul may turn out to be a very good blocking Tight End Logan Paulsen is considered to be a great blocking Tight End. (ie Niles is a B+ where as Paulsen is an A grade player when it comes to blocking). |
Re: Bucs vs. Skins Gameday Thread
I could see them keeping five guys in the backfield. Shanny's RBs also tend to get hurt.

Re: Bucs vs. Skins Gameday Thread
Crawford looked good again tonight, they better keep him on the roster and not put him on the practice squad. Some decent receivers, Dline and LB's are going to get released.
On a good note, these backups looked incredibly well coached, they get it. Our depth is quite strong, haven't seen that in years. The heavy drafting is starting to pay off. Now we just need major playmakers in starting roles and shore up our Oline and secondary. This team did not make many mental errors during preseason, that is a fantastic sign. It will likely come down to who has more talent on game day, and we are still a bit behind with our starters. I can proudly say, we have a solid across the board foundation, finally....did you ever think we would have across the board depth a few years back when we didn't even have a GM?....good job Bruce Allen!! |
Re: Bucs vs. Skins Gameday Thread
Desmond Briscoe doesn't sound too confident in his roster spot.

Remember the Osaka Bowl ..... Im not being a pessimist - i agree about the promise this team is beginning to have but im not going to jim zorn hip hip hooray bruce allen around town until it translates into wins - real wins. |

Re: Bucs vs. Skins Gameday Thread
man, i guess the bucs are going to be terrible this year. maybe their starters are a lot better than those guys, but once they get hurt... sad panda.
on the other hand, our depth looked pretty amazing tonight, especially the front 7. |

We are far less vunerable to injury now because the dropoff is less dramatic that it usually has been....and regarding Spurrier...he has his 1's against 2s and 3s...and the ones were guys like Danny Wuerfull, guys that no other team would carry. And Shannahan aint on rookie coach like him or Zorn...he has won Superbowls. Take a look at penalties...3?...really? for scrubs?...that is really outstanding, execution was there, I liked the way they ran at the end to get film on the linemen and the FB and to create cohesion. So I am not super excited, but after a preseason you can generally make a good guess of their record...this is a 6-10 or 7-9 team right now. We lack a solid secondary and a solid Oline. At least having one of those solid is essential for winning, unless you have a hall of fame QB or something, which we do not. |

My only concern about preseason is they got through it healthy. Our ones looked good against the colts but whose dont? Our ones did not look good against chicago. I hear you on depth and discipline. Im not calling you out for dreaming big - as a matter of fact i think you are selling us short on 6 or 7 wins. I could see this team winning anywhere from 4 to 12??? Really. So much depends on injuries or lack there of , etc. i think my reaction to your post was more of a " hey dont jinx us". Lol. Oh and as far as having a hall of fame qb - we might? :) |
Re: Bucs vs. Skins Gameday Thread
We definitely have depth, the question is are our starters better than other teams starters? And we'll have to wait and see, but our 2nd and 3rd stringers looked great.
Crawford, glad he's healthy, he'll make the team. I think Armstrong will make the team. Aldrick either makes it, which means no Banks, which I'm perfectly fine with. Or doesn't make it and Banks is probably on the team which is an OSer. Cundiff looked like, ...Cundiff. I'm excited to see this team week 1, but then again we did go 3-1 last preseason then started the season 3-1 and well we all know what happened from there. |

Which leads us to oline and secondary. No big secret there. Hope they stay healthy and some of the young guns step up. What is an OSer? |
