The Teapot is inapplicable to NC's assertion that "To make the claim their isn't a god, means the burden of proof is now on you to back up the claim". It is applicable to the assertion "You can't prove I am wrong about the existence of God so you should believe God exists."

I don't think you have ever claimed you could prove God's non-existence. Rather, your "assertion" has always been "through the use of the scientific method, prove the existence of deity and I will believe in that proven deity."

You're just particularly obnoxious about doing so and are prone to ignoring your own logical fallacies in arguing the point.

You could have said 'You're just particularly obnoxious' and you'd have been correct. Everyone should have a hobby.

While I believe homosexuality is biological and not a choice, I have a problem with gay marriage. Give it equal rights but call it a "civil union" or something else, anything but marriage. Leave marriage between a man and wife the way it always has been.

I agree. I would like to see all people who want to commit publicly to one other person move away from marriage and adopt civil unions so that marriage becomes shorthand for 'religious bigot'.

See, you could have just said "I agree."

Then I wouldn't have conveyed the important message and reason why.

You're no fun these days, is it the cold? I can send you a blanket I'm not using?

Pretty good article
How American Christians can stop being bullies and start winning converts - The Week
For Christians, this history of histrionics has been bad for business. In a 2010 Barna Research survey, for example, one in five Americans and 35 percent of those associated with non-Christian faiths said that Christians' most negative contribution to society was "violence or hatred incited in the name of Jesus Christ." Twenty-five percent of respondents said they couldn't even think of one positive contribution made by Christians.
I'm personally agnostic and not one to believe in miracles and the like but I do believe that there's a lot of value in the teachings of Jesus Christ. And though I have seen more then my fair share of harm done by religious institutions I've also seen it help people that were basically at rock bottom.

Where I draw the line is when a person or group of people start trying to impose their dogma on others when it has nothing to do with them. Gay marriage does nothing to directly affect the marriage of any heterosexual couple. To suggest that the exact same arrangement, ie two consenting adults in love or in need of a green card, will somehow lead to bestiality and child marriages is absurd.

It sickens me to see many Christian sects of which the main principles are suppose to be tolerance and forgiveness use their influence to spread fear, hate, and stubbornness among not just gays but anyone they perceive as a threat.

Still I can't wait to fight the next generation on weather or not the use of AI implants and gene therapy should be legal.

25 percent of respondents aren't aware of all the charity done in the name of Christianity?

hrm... that tells me more about the respondents than the Christians :)

the gay marriage debate is full of disingenuous arguments (from both sides, as usual)... so many I pretty much stay out of the conversation these days.

103 page opinion or something like that, dissents included.

I havent read the majority opinion yet but i think the headlines are misleading.

to my understanding (havent read opinion yet), this case law holds that all states must recognize out-of-state same sex marriages.

this case does not mean a same sex couple can get married in Texas tomorrow.

This case means Texas has to recognize and treat equal a same sex couple who got married, say, new hampshire or NY or DC etc .....

I imagine a same sex couple can apply for a license in Texas, get denied then bring suit which may force the SCOTUS to overturn any state law prohibitnig the marriage.
