Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
As much as her statement pissed me off (and trust me, it did) I have to keep reminding myself that that type of statement she released is typical of a battered woman. Until she fully removes herself from that situation (if she ever does) she won't see herself as a victim instead of a target.
And to all the people (not here in particular but other places I've seen) saying "oh we don't know what really happened" and "wah, they deserve their privacy", f that. Ray Rice let everyone into their private life the minute he knocked his wife out in a public area. |

Ray Rice let everyone into their private life the minute he knocked his wife out in a public area.
Sadly battered woman syndrome is usually an extension of childhood abuse. It can take the form of being abused personally or seeing parents physically fight. I had heard about it growing up, but it really hit home during college where I was unfortunate enough to see how situations like this unfold. In short one woman I knew who came from a stable loving home (I had actually met her family and visited her home on multiple occasions), not only walked out on her abuser without hesitation, but vigilantly pursued criminal charges. On the other hand there were two other women I knew who based on what I could gather had pretty rough childhoods. To put it into perspective one got legally emancipated at 16 years old, because as she put it, going to boot camp was club med compared to staying at home. Long story short one stayed with and defended an abusive a-hole BF (literally used a slightly altered version of the 'fell down the stairs' explanation when asked why she had a black eye). The other jumped from one abusive guy to the next. In fact one time she cheated on an abusive guy who then apparently got into a fight with the other abusive guy she had slept with (shocker I know). The worst part is these incidents are almost never isolated. Rather they bleed into multiple generations, until somehow, someway, a person strong enough comes along and breaks the cycle. It's a nice story when it happens but the buildup is to painful to watch. |
“Dear Lovers of Women, Not Hitting Women, Non Violence and Just Generally Being a Good Person, Come trade your Ray Rice Ravens Jersey in for a free pizza at Hersh's,” reads the statement. “These jerseys will save us money on toilet paper this week.” Shortly after the Ravens announced Rice’s firing, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Rice indefinitely . The initial Facebook post was shared close to 300 times in about three hours. Hersh's later announced that the shop would donate $2.70, after Rice's No. 27, to the House of Ruth for every jersey it received. "Since there are only so many we can use for toilet paper," a new Facebook post read.
The good old blame the media argument. I get it to a small degree, but your husband is a public figure who knocked you out on camera. In this day and age if it's on camera, it's going to get out eventually.
I agree but lets not confuse TMZ with regular media either .Someone has been sitting on this tape and got some money for it . |

I agree. I was thinking about it last night because I originally guessed it was the act of a whistle blower. However if you were a genuine whistle blower with no ulterior motive wouldn't you send the tape to a more reputable news source like CNN or even Vice News if you didn't trust a major news outlet to handle it properly instead of TMZ? Obviously you can still be a whistle blower while sending the tape to TMZ but given the fact that the choices of news organizations were essentially limitless, why settle on TMZ? |

Ran by a incompetent corrupt fatass so it's not surprising really. |
Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
The guy is screwed. Everyone from DC to Beijing has seen the video by now. He will be extremely lucky to play one down of football ever again!!!!!! Then his one comment was "I have to be strong for my wife." Really, you need to cold cock her and drag her around to be strong for her?

The answer to the question should have been a no brainer. Whoever released the video, wasn't dumb. Why release it to CNN or NBC if they weren't going to pay you or pay you top dollar? Might as well get paid for something as big as that. More people probably are into TMZ now than news anymore. More outrageous and less depressing, although in this instance it was pathetic. |

Definitely!!!!! You can't blame some security guard making probably $14-15 a hour copying it and trying to score big with it. |

That casino was closed down a couple of weeks ago. Chances are this is someone's idea of a severance package. EDIT: Also TMZ had several quotes that were not attribute to anyone by name, but was from the point of view of the casino employees. The founder of TMZ was on Espn radio yesterday and while he wouldn't admit it in this case, he said they will pay for tape and hold stories. He said, "everyone does it" and got quite defensive. |
