Haslett is an average DC. But it's not going to matter who we bring in here if he doesn't have players. Haslett would be a better DC if he had better players. I'd be more worried about who's picking the players, rather than who's coaching them. Clark, Merriweather, Hatcher, Porter and Bowen are all pretty sub par free agent signings. There is no excuse for 50 year old Ryan Clark starting as your free safety.
I just don't understand how/why they haven't been able to address the safety position. I will say that I'm glad we didn't overpay for Jarius Byrd, but there were plenty of safeties in the FA market.

We have overpaid sooo many old safties over the years, seems to be a position we really struggle to fill period.

I want our team to finish the year strong, and get on a nice win streak. But part of me wants us to let it go to secure some good draft picks next year for the offensive line. The last few times we've been to the super bowl we were built around a power house O line, even as the quarterbacks changed. Maybe higher Russ Grimm as our O line coach like in the late 90s. He got a ring coaching the O Line of the Steelers, and his O lines have consistently been good. Maybe I'm just dreaming, but it'd be nice to have him back.

We have a good team in most positions. Strengthen the O and D line and we'd be a force to reckon with. The skins as a franchise have been focusing too much on big names and not on making good players who can execute simple blocking techniques without fail, over and over again.

Grimm has been out of work for a while. Never understood the fascination by some fans.

Well, there was a time when he was a solid coaching candidate. Coached on winning teams, moved up the coaching ranks (he was the Cardinals Asst. Head Coach for a while under Whisenhunt), and was a regular name in possibilities for teams other than the Skins.

Then ... pfffft. Never made the next step, never got another middle-management coaching position (OC, DC, etc.), and then couldn't even get an O-Line job. Just dropped out of the coach discussions at any level.

Had the cards fallen right, he may have been a good fit 9-10 years ago. Not anymore.

Not exactly sure why people are talking about Grimm as if he hasnt seen the NFL in 10 years. He didnt coach last year, but did in 2012. The offensive lines he coached were always good. In Pitt, he had good talent, but when he went to the Cards, he greatly helped improve that Oline. I would take him in a heartbeat as our OL coach.

You know its sad when after reading that, you actually contemplate if a 50+ year old man could improve this Oline as a player. Even sadder when you answer yes like I did.

I went through the exact same thought process.

Pfffff.... Shows what you know... The Skins are far too savvy to employ a bingo player. We only hire bingo CALLERS. There's a big difference.

Point well taken...
But in all fairness......if you can call Bingo, you can dodge a wrench
