Re: What happens with Kyle Smith?
Agree. Love his recent drafts. Id love him as a GM too. Hope he can handle the free agency side. Losing a HOF potential LT hurt us significantly. If we had him, we'd definitely be in the playoffs. Imagine screens with gibson in space with trent williams escorting him. What a major screwup by Bruce. This should NEVER be allowed to happen again
Trent Williams leaving was on Bruce Allen and medical staff, I also wouldn’t be surprised if Kyle Shanarat called TW knowing the situation and recruiting him to SF in a stealth manner. |

That wouldn’t have been hard. They’d been to the super bowl last year, lost their longstanding LT to retirement, and TW had a relationship with their coaches. Most logical move. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

We are one game a way and now have a coach who can coach so I will go overboard. I guess you were happy with Vinnie and Bruce? You can’t discount the talent brought in 3 years in row which is better than what Vinnie/Bruce tenure did which was basically nothing. |

Vinny and Bruce made the GM selections that Dan Snyder wanted them to pick - for 20 years!!. Dan Snyder was/is a terrible judge of NFL talent , among his many other faults as the owner. That’s one of the main reasons that the team was so dismal for 20 years, even with HOF-caliber HC such as Gibbs and Shannihan. I don’t know why Rivera DOESN’T want Kyle Smith as the GM. Since Smith has done a very good job at picking starters out of the dregs of the NFL UDFA, NFL’s lowest- round draft picks, and the cheap, one-year, FA PICKUPs. A typical GM is considered a freaking genius if he can get a ST ace from the year’s lowest draft picks, UDFA, etc. - much less a couple starters! Kyle Smith will be offered a GM spot at one NFL TEAM or more, if the WFT fails to act. I think Rivera is justifiably suspicious of any team executive not selected by HIMSELF. Remember, Snyder doesn’t care if the team wins or losses. He just wants to do the hiring and firing power . Snyder is playing nice NOW, but as soon as he buys out the other minority owners and gets past the NFL investigation, does anyone doubt that he will go back to his old ways? Mistreating employees, and micromanaging the team using a shadow GM? I believe that it’s POSSIBLE that Rivera may wonder if Kyle Smith might be a TROJAN HORSE, ready to do Snyder’s dirty work?? I’m not saying Kyle Smith is Snyder’s lackey. But Smith’s record is very good and I can’t think of ANY OTHER REASON why Rivera would be searching for a GM when Smith has built a team from the left over players that Bruce Allen and Snyder let him have. Rivera wants a GM that HE SELECTED to make sure that Snyder hasn’t tainted him beforehand. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Dave Gettleman might be out after Sunday. Idk why but between him and Marty Hurney I get the feeling one will end up working with Ron here. I'd rather have Hurney though, Gettleman is trash. So is Mayhew. |
Re: What happens with Kyle Smith?
Kyle Smith has brought in Good and Very Good starters out of the very BOTTOM of the draft, but also out of UDFA. Curl is just the Latest ROOKIE starters and a 7th round pick.
Either Rivera isn’t sold on Kyle’s GM ability OR Rivera wants to bring in a GM who will BE HIS GUY! I can see Rivera’s paranoia. Snyder secretly ran many of the top personnel selections through GM’s who quietly did what he wanted. Once the team starts winning again I’m sure Rivera is worried Snyder will try to get back in the personnel decision-making loop. Kyle has made some excellent pickups these last couple years from the dredges of the draft/UDFA. It hasn’t gone unnoticed, if he’s isn’t kept as the GM here, he will be offered a job at some other team looking for a magician like him who sometimes makes gold from coal. I'm not saying Smith isn't capable. He is the best thing we have had going in the FO in a long time. But you are comparing him to a HOF GM who built SB winners, drafted HOF players and brought in others that are close to the HOF. There just isn't any argument between the two right now. |

DG might retire or even take a VP spot . I wouldn't be surprised. |

I don’t know Gettleman well, but at his age I’m sure there is a performance drop off for NFL execs just like with players. When you get to be to an advanced age it has to be hard to maintain the grind of the demands of the job. You give me a young guy like Smith who is already within the organization and has demonstrated multiple successes with drafting talent vs. an older guy who has past experience but may bring a different perspective to how to do things, give me the young guy with continuity all day. I’m going to be pissed if anyone other than Kyle Smith is the guy. Doesn’t sound good though so far from rumors and reports. |

Re: What happens with Kyle Smith?
Just a thought. Smith isn't being lined up for any vacant GM interview - https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-coaching-gm-tracker-latest-news-interviews-developments-in-2021-hiring-cycle
Is that indicative of nobody outside DC thinking him ready for the role, nobody having approached him yet or RR having made it clear via back channels that he's going nowhere and likely to get the WFT job? Personally I suspect its one of the latter two. It might even be an indication the NFL is going to push Snyder out so nobody is touching WFT staff until the ownership situation is resolved. Not sure that logic stands up to much scrutiny though. |
