Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
Sirius XM NFL Channel 88 just reported that the WFT is expected to hire Martin Mathew, VP of player personnel of the San Franscisco 49ers as their next GM.
Man wth. He got fired from Detroit for a reason Ron. |
Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
So his 4 years in SF don't count? He wasn't the GM in Detroit when they went winless.
Martin Mayhew is in his fourth season with the 49ers and second as the vice president of player personnel. He spent the previous two years (2017-18) as the team's senior personnel executive. Mayhew joined the 49ers after spending the 2016 season as the director of football operations/special projects with the New York Giants. In his role with the Giants, he worked all aspects of the salary cap, CBA compliance and player contract negotiations. Prior to his time in New York, Mayhew spent 15 years (2001-15) in the Detroit Lions organization, including the final seven as the team's general manager. Taking over as general manager following the team's winless season in 2008, he aided Detroit's ascent to a 10-win season in 2011. Mayhew was responsible for the draft selections of Pro Bowlers QB Matthew Stafford and DE Ezekiel Ansah, as well as 2010 AP Defensive Rookie of the Year DT Ndamukong Suh, who was selected to four Pro Bowls as a member of the Lions. He was also responsible for signing WR Golden Tate and S Glover Quin in free agency, both of whom went on to earn Pro Bowl honors in Detroit.
|

Why hasn't he had a job in the past two-three years as a gm? |

Because he was a VP of player personnel? |

Yep... I think it's going to happen |

Pretty common for guys that were at that position who took gm jobs. Let's see what happens when we start losing again lol. |

Losing again? We've been losing for a while. We've had 5 winning seasons in 20 years... |
Trade for Stafford and sign Golladay.
I love that plan, they're already GREAT together, add Terry into that mix and we're immediately one of the most dangerous passing teams in the NFL. I really hope we re-sign Cam Sims though, he's earned a payday. Logan Thomas needs to be locked up long term. |

This article gives a concise breakdown of Mayhew's draft picks as GM with the Lions. id say mixed results, maybe a C grade. I think I would have phrased that differently. :) |

If you can hit on 2 guys per draft I'd say it's a good effort |
Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
If we hire Mayhew as GM, I believe that the 49ers will receive 3 draft picks. Not certain on the round, but I think they are third rounders.
