Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Going to see the new Indiana Jones movie tomorrow! My friend won tickets on the radio for an advanced screening and I told him that he would be risking his life if he didn't take me.
I am so pumped, but at the same time I just don't want to have my hopes too high just in case. I'm usually a glass half empty kind of guy. |

Iron Man will be this Summer's best movie. So damn good. So damn good.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I just saw Pirates of the Carribean: At World's End on Saturday. It's another good movie and it's also a great way to end the series, I was curious to see how they would end the whole thing but needless to say I wasn't disappointed.

Totally impossible to ruin it. They actually could have shown 10,000 BC with the name Indiana Jones Strangles Blind Kittens and it would have been awesome. In-di-an-a JONES!!! Yeah, I'm a little excited to see it. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I just watched The Bucket List, that's a pretty damn good movie. I'd like to go out that way someday. I wouldn't say it was a film that everyone needs to go out and watch immediately, but if you do you wouldn't be disappointed.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
just saw the movie with Diane Lane, and the Internet killer. untraceable. pretty good flick. looking forward to seeing vantage point. comes out soon

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Just watched "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" on disc... awesome photography in that one (I think it won the Oscar for cinematography).
Also saw Mamet's new one, "Redbelt", while recuperating for a few hours in Vegas. Tight narrative with excellent acting and fight scenes. |

I just saw Iron Man last night and loved it. Robert Downey Jr. and Jeff Bridges where great. What I'm really waiting for is Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I'm going at midnight tomorrow to check it out. I'm hoping it will be the best movie of the summer. I rank the Indiana Jones movies right up there with Star Wars. |

Yeah, I'm a little excited to see it.
i'm psyched too but u also have to take into account if now a days George Lucas is involved, there is a chance of it getting f-ed ie 90% of Star Wars episodes 1-3. |

I loved Iron Man and have already seen it a couple times, but my money is on Wanted, Hellboy 2, or my personal choice of The Dark Knight. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I'm actually a little excited for the movie, "The Happening" that comes out June 13th with Marky Mark in it. (Yes, I said Marky Mark)
Isn't this an M. Night Shaymalan flick? (I'm actually not sure) Which means it's going to have some twist that comes directly out of left field? I haven't watched any of his movies but I hear that his twists are pretty.. Nuts. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Just got back from seeing Indy. I liked it, but I wouldn't say I loved it.
I definitely think that a lot of people won't like it for one reason or another. My biggest complaint was that there were a couple of scenes that were too dependant on CGI. Alright, well my allergies are about to make my head explode, but I'll expand on this more tomorrow whilst trying to kill time at work. |

I really liked Signs, and who doesn't like 6th Sense? When I went to Iron Man, they had an extended preview for The Happening. Really looks awesome. And Mark Wahlberg was good enough in The Departed that I'll watch any of his new movies for a while. Anyway, Iron Man was fun to watch, and Downey, Jr. was brilliant (not Less than Zero brilliant, but he was solid). Forgetting Sarah Marshall was the funniest thing I've watched since Wedding Crashers. I was in tears. I was definitely "that guy" in the theater laughing way to loud. |

Quick itvnetop, top five most infamous deus ex machinas in cinematic history. Go!
Thanks SS! Now you've got my mind spinning. This list isn't the most infamous ones in history... it's just the ones that I hate. The most infamous is probably Planet of the Apes, but I'm not listing it... that movie was so b-side that I thought the ending was perfect. "Damn you to Hell!" *Spoiler* 1) Signs - Although I actually liked this movie, the ending seemed preposterous. Seriously, would an alien race that's pretty advanced actually visit a planet that's over 70% death (aka water)? 2) Battle Royale - I love this film... I own it on disc and have seen it over 20 times. But this film deserved such a better ending. The writer just packed it in at the end. Then again, it's based on a book- so it may have just followed that story till the end. *Spoiler* 3) The Prestige - The trend continues of awesome films with copout endings. Seriously... an identical twin? 4) Superman (Original) - Yup it's a classic. But that whole flying around the Earth-turning back time thing to save Lois was booty. And wouldn't this negate all of the lives he had saved earlier? *Spoiler* 5) 3:10 to Yuma - Great flick. Ending isn't consistent with Crowe's character. Yeah, I felt he was feeling some sympathy (and respect) for Bale's character. But enough sympathy to all of a sudden blast his crew, who went through hell to free him? Wade hadn't shown enough of a change throughout the film to suddenly decide this action during an awesome climax. It's almost as if the writer wanted to make a happy ending (sorta... even with Bale's demise), but was kinda lazy doing it. Then again, it's based on an Elmore Leonard book... so it may have followed suit. * Honorable mention to I Am Legend. Ironically, the only film I've listed that I didn't like. Soooo, let's just throw in a butterfly crack on a piece of glass, a scientist and voila! A quick fix potion that solves everything... booooo! Your turn, SS! |

Yeah, I mean, with the trend of "superhero" style movies over the past 6-8 years, I understand Shyamalan's motivation to make a different style of such a movie, it just didn't really hold me. Everything else he's done has been, if nothing else, pretty hair raising. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
i haven't found a horror movie i've liked yet. i mean, even the saw series which everyone seems to love was pretty boring and pointless for me :/
new indy looks terrible... dreadful even. i watched the new narnia out of sheer boredom here and it was actually better than the first and not that bad. I doubt i'll ever watch it again, but at least i don't feel like i wasted 2 hours of my life. quoted from "cheery movie reviews with that guy". okay, well not really. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I checked out Cloverfield last night, I know the reviews were mixed here but I liked it. The shaky camera thing really didn't bother me and I liked how it made you feel more involved in the movie. I think without that the movie would have been pretty lame.

The endings to O' Brother, Where Art Thou; Platoon; Saving Private Ryan; Jurassic Park; and Joe vs. The Volcano. Well, maybe that last one wasn't so great... |

To the M. Night fans... did you guys watch the Village or Lady in the Water? I turned off "Lady" after the third mention of Narf. And I always finish bad movies...

I never saw Lady In the Water. |

I liked the village.
Lady in the water was disappointing. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
the interesting thing about the Happening for me is that this is M.Night's first attempt into an R rated horror film and from the red band trailer that's on a couple different sites, makes the movie seem 10x more brutal than the regular trailers would lead you to believe the movie is going to be. M. Night just seems to be someone who could come up with a really creepy ass horror flick so I'm pretty intrigued.

Here's hoping he makes up for his last few ones... I honestly don't need a twist in every movie he does, but I hear this one has it. The one movie I'm looking forward to this summer: [YT]x1TBlPelvbE&feature[/YT] |

I'm just gonna throw this question out on this thread since it's not football related and not threadworthy- did the screen layout just change? My margins just got narrower for some reason...
Plus on the home page I can't see my avatar, can't see who created each thread, and can't see who the last to post on a thread was... wtf? |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Strangers looks like the real deal!
"Why are you doing this to us?" "Because you where home." That line only makes me want to go see it. |

anyone know anything about a George Romero flick that was just released on DVD? im not sure what its called, but his stuff is usually pretty decent( if your into the zombie thing)

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
mredskins - That quote is the creepiest! It's exactly what drew me in... "Because you were home"... wow! I think The Strangers is based on the Manson murders.
dmek- I saw that Romero flick in the theaters... was lucky enough to catch it for the week it was on the big screen. It's called "Diary of the Dead." Not his best effort into the series, but it had some cool death scenes. It takes the whole technology angle vs. zombies (the movie is shot verite-style and you'll see stuff like MySpace pop up). |
