Re: Looking at the draft.
I've been watching the DL drills at the Combine and Da'Ron Payne has been amazing! He is a great athlete. Here's a plan: Sign Dontari Poe in FA and then draft Payne.

Re: Looking at the draft.
Sucks that Vea is out of the drills with a hammy. Payne does look good. Settle has looked like poop.

Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
I like Poe. But would signing him allow us to resign Zach Brown, and at least some among Breeland, Long, Galette, Murphy, Quick, (Paul? Hopkins?) AND find a #1 WR and a LG and/or a RB ? We should have around 34M in cap space. If we trade down we'll have picks to find a starting LG, and I know a lot here hope we draft a RB, but we still have a lot of needs to address. As critical as finding another dominant DT is, I don't see the urgency of spending 2 "spots" on this position. Draft or FA, not sure about both... Allen and Ioannidis are coming back, our DL is not as weak as the end of the season suggested. |

Because we have other holes like RB, G, WR, and LB that there is some depth in the draft at especially in rounds 2 and 3 and there aren't as great of options in FA (except G). I prefer we trade back start with LB, then go G, RB, and WR, then add some secondary and DL depth later in the draft. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |

But not if it comes at the expense of finally having a running game and putting weapons around Smith. But hey, maybe we resign most of our guys, our only significant FA signings are Poe and Paul Richardson, we manage to get a 4th/5th for Cravens, we trade down and can get a DT, a RB and a guard in the first 4 rounds... I don't hate this plan, but it contains quite a lot of unknowns and risks taken. Envoyé de mon SM-J320FN en utilisant Tapatalk |
Re: Looking at the draft.
Great story: LB Shaquem Griffin has proven can play on the field at a high level. He ran 4.3 forty at combine this weekend, fastest time ever for a LB.
Twenty reps on the bench press with a left hand prosthetic as he does not have a left hand. This guy can play. I'd be surprised if he makes it past day two. The film is there, the work ethic is there, the stats are there. There is only one thing that isn't there, and tbh I don't see it mattering. Linebackers need a good d-line in front of them to make plays anyways. Not many are good at shedding blockers and making plays if the d-line sucks. |

I agree. It is rare to see a great player on the field, combined with hard worker and then a work out warrior at the NFL combine. A LB running a 4.3....crazy! It will be interesting to see when and where he goes. |

No chance I'm going RB at 13 unless Barkley is there, which he obviously won't be.
Gimme Nelson or a front 7 guy. |
There is definitely an argument to going all in on D line investment. Philly from this year is the case in point. Their secondary was mediocre at best and Cooley and other analysts named them as a weakness. Their LB corps was injured early on and continued to be banged up throughout their Super Bowl run. These "weaknesses" were covered by the play and depth of their Dline. Philly strategically invests in the Dline and rotates them throughout the game. Their strategy is pressure from a fresh talented Dline can and does cover deficiencies in other defensive units. It worked against one of the best QBs and game planning coaches in the league to win a world championship. I think there is a strong argument that Dline, like a good running game, is greater than the sum of their parts and positively affects other units and game aspects. It reduces the coverage time, and thus the time for the secondary to F up. It keeps LBs clean and unblocked to tackle a runner. It messes with a QBs timing and can get in his head. I don't think a team can ever go wrong by drafting or signing a game changing defensive lineman. |

If we can resign Zach Brown and Breeland, sign Paul Richardson and still have the room to sign Poe. I'm ok with it. Then you can trade down and go DT, RB, G in the first 3. But I'm not sure the first part of this statement is realistic from a cap standpoint. |
Re: Looking at the draft.
- Resign Brown and Breeland if you can get them for a combined 15 million, otherwise pick 1 of them
- Sign a starting LG - Sign Paul Richardson - Draft Payne/Vea and RB in the 1st 2 rounds Based on above, if needed, draft another CB or MLB asap with remaining picks. This would be my money combo of off season and beginning of draft. |

DBs need at the very least one season to adapt. Are we confortable with Dunbar starting outside opposite Norman ? Moreau could be the guy but for now I'd rather have him inside. We can't draft a CB in the 4th and hope he'll be a solid starter day 1. |

So I'd like to get that solidified with proven vet. Have a bunch of war daddies up front for our new RB and Alex Smith, then add Richardson for another deep threat. |

I hear you. But then we better get a good deal trading down, be successful with our early picks and lucky with our late picks otherwise or our defense is gonna miss some pieces. |

If we don't keep ZB, May have to look at R Smith at 13, guy is all over the field

Yep. 13 for 21/55 was discussed in another thread. That would be great for us and vault Buffalo ahead of Arizona at 15 for a QB. They would still have 22 & 58 in addition to 13. |

If he's BPA then I don't think it matters if Brown is resigned or not. Smith is worthy of being taken in the top 10.That would be a great pick for us. He and Brown would give us two serious athletes at ILB. |
Re: Looking at the draft.
I'm a best player available guy.
I don't think a RB @ 13 will be the best player available...unless a crazy J. Allen situation happens and Barkkey falls. Ideally i would like to improve on the defense; especially DL, Safety or LB. But there is also a chance WR (Ridley) and one of the QBs (Allen, Baker or Jackson) could be available. If possible i would like to trade down a couple/few slots to get more ammo. |

I'll be happy to recoup the 3rd round pick we are sending to the Chiefs. Unfortunately, the Bills could also trade with Green Bay, who picks right after us. |

Woulda loved to seen horse tooth jackass face when he found out the Jets jumped ahead of him on the first round looking to strengthen their qb position.
I’m expecting an offense heavy draft for the skins....online running back TE and WR... Also thinking Bruce is looking to move back and get that 3rd round pick back. |
