Wright was on with Kevin Sheehan this morning and apparently they are open to changing the years on the crest. Personally I could care less, they went with commemorating the year they won vs what season the team is associated with, but if it helps straighten out some panties out there than just do it.
Part of me wishes they just left the pre-Superbowl championships off and went with the Roman numeral of the Super Bowl wins. I think that would actually look really cool.

also, Swaggy chimes in on Twitter:
As I said it my post it's not just the crest thing. It's everything single thing w/ them.
IMHO there are two different POVs currently running through Washington fandom.

The first places a premium on history and tradition of the franchise. Unsurprisingly, this features mostly unhappy fans as they feel a genuine loss. One catches a whiff of over sentimental tendencies, bitterness, and reluctance to embrace change.

The second is forward looking and places a premium on the future rather than wallowing in the past. Unsurprisingly, this features mostly optimistic fans who do not see this as a death, but rather as much needed rebirth. One catches a whiff of romantic expectations regarding wins and possibly a slight tinge of Stockholm Syndrome.

Both schools of thought are legitimate and have their merits. But they are largely incompatible at this time.
Seems to me that let's go commanders works just fine.
But how do you chant it with any kind of rythme ? Like the "let's go one-two *clapclapclapclapclap* let's go one-two" that every 2 syllables team uses, or the "go one go! Go one go!" For one syllable teams ?

True, but . . .

Every NFL team has a one or two syllable name. The only exceptions (49ers, Cardinals, Buccaneers, Patriots) clip their name to fit the chant (Niners, Cards or Card-nals, Bucs, Pats). I imagine ours will be clipped to C’man-ders, though I personally like Commies. This opens the door to our defense (or I suppose our offense down the road) becoming the Red Menace and Dan Snyder being That Commie Bastard.

Pigskins
Hogs
Redwolves

3 names that are all way better than Commanders and would have had a connection to our past while still being a fresh start.

They have to get rid of the solid colored pants. Especially on the home uniforms. Those all burgundy or red pants are hideous.

The home jerseys could be solid, but it looks like shit with those pants.

Since I won't change team, and since Jason said this was only the launching of the brand and they were going to create the rest of the identity, I gotta say I have very high expectations from both the FO and the fraction of the fan base supporting this name to come up with exciting ways to engage and support this team. For now we got a hard to shorten 3 syllables name and an AAF hashtag, but I'll wait.

I like the black a lot. The Commanders logo on the upper corner of the chest looks like a name tag on a military uniform. Nice touch.

The burgundy jersey looks good but have never liked us in the burgundy on burgundy pants look. It’s too much. They need to find a way for white pants to work with the burgundy jersey.

I would love the crest if they fixed the years. What’s stopping me from getting a crest hoodie is the laughs I’ll get from Eagles fans around here about the wrong dates. There are only so many people I’m willing to punch in the face in one day.

Everyone I talk to likes the name commanders.. nobody I know liked Hogs or pigs or red tails names .. so if you hate commanders others do not ..if you gotta have a short way to refer to team just call them DC … district commanders

Anything pig or hog related just sounds juvenile IMO. And if we thought the foreskin jokes were bad, imagine the easy picking that would come along with a swine related name. But in the end this is all totally subjective.

Lol…

After everything has settled, I think uniforms are fine. Every set looks cool…they didn’t stray too far IMO which is good. Looking forward to how it flashes on the field

I’m very meh on the name itself…it doesn’t do a lot for me. Redwolves or Wolves I really would have liked. Traditional and I just like nature.

Liking the name or not is subjective, I'm not arguing that. I'm just in the position of not being excited by this name one bit, and asking for ways to see myself cheering for them. One thing I've always liked in sports is the connections it creates between fans, whole stadium chanting as one, people in bars shouting and chanting the same things etc... I thought our fight song was really great... So I need things like that to get on board with this new identity, and right now I don't have much.

You really think Washington Pigskins is better than Commanders?

Also how does a Wolf have connection to our past other than it being Native American imagery?

Yes, I like it a million times better. Has "skins" in it and it sounds old school. I love old school. Also, it's original. I don't know of any team that has a name remotely close.

Redwolves is what most fans wanted, it sounds close to our previous name, wolves are bad-fucking-ass, and they have a link to native Americans.

Anyways, this is my last post about the name itself. It is what it is. By the time the season starts I'll be used to it.

I hope they tweak the crest and uniforms. I don't like the white ring, even if the years are fixed. I'd remove it altogether.

The home jersey is fine with different pants. The road and alternate uniforms are just ugly as fuck imo. Those could use a lot of tweaks, and fingers crossed they look way better on actual players on the field.

Yeah, the pants need to have a stripe for sure. Or a different color from the jersey altogether.

They look like onesies when it's all the same color.

Re: Welcome your Washington Commanders
They looked into wolves, it just wasn't going to work
I figured out why not Wolves.
A long time ago, a wolf was slang for a guy who was on the prowl for women to get just one thing.

The association to the front office's behavior towards women is almost identical to the slang term.

Lets face it, our front office males were already Washington Wolves. There are dozens of women that would easily already agree to that most accurate nickname. Same goes for pigs of any kind.
I personally loved Warriors, and I did like Redwolves. Commanders is just punting on 1st down. They didn't even try. It is so sad.
My personal only hope is that the NFL forces Snyder to sell and he does, and the owner either buys the team, moves it away and puts a nail in this comatose franchise, or....the a new owner keeps them here and pushes all the right buttons to get a name the fanbase actually requested.
Commanders is flat out dog crap, it fits the team's reputation perfectly.
It is a shame. One of the most storied franchises in all of sports, with one of the classiest hall of fame coach and best teams ever, erased systematically mistake by horrible mistake over 20 years.

My daughter showed me their high school football branding and said it looked better. She was right, I asked who did it, she said the marketing club...high school students!

I have noticed many big time warpath names seriously considering time to get off the titanic. We hit the iceberg long ago. Consider me in that same group. I bailed commenting here for a couple years and came back. I am glad you are all here and appreciate being part of a great and educated online community. We all have our reasons to stick with this team through anything, but I kinda equate it to being a lifelong republican who bailed because of Trump, but is still hanging on hope that things get back to respectability. The similarities with what Dan Snyder has done, especially ego and letch wise is uncanny. I am a big believer in you reap what you sow, and that includes integrity and respect. Nothing about this says respect for fans. What it says is do everything you can possibly do to cover up and protect a man who has shown nothing but an interest in himself at the expense of all others, including all of us.
This team is still a serious problem to the NFL, and women, and minorities (native americans) Any decent owner would have been able to garner respect from native americans enough to get us to simply change name to warriors or something that is not considered a slur. We could keep the proud identity. But Danny just doesn't garner any respect and only changed names when threatened by big business (not even the fans themselves).

Changing a name does not change the owner.
Firing everyone in the front office but keeping the same owner is merely to cover his butt. Hiring a black GM is certainly a plus, but it sounds like the same words of every other yes man he has hired. So Danny checks off some boxes, women coach, black GM, woman spokesperson. That's all great, but the leader of the team remains the same. He is a narcissist. All about me. Unfortunately, that rarely changes. The only way this team truly changes is to make the one and now only change that has not been made.
Get rid of Danny.

I propose that he sell shares of the team to the fans, until we own at least 51% Then, and only then will the glory years be in our future.

Thank you all for your awesome comments and comraderie over the years. It has been great. I may go into a self induced Redskins coma for a while again. Happy New year and Hail to the Redskins!
