^BHA several things:

1.Those guys we cut have never won us anything 2. We are one of the oldest teams in the league. 3. We have a opportunity to cut bloated salaries with no CBA 4. I know change can be generally really tough, especially when we are used to paying guys who really dont play up to their salaries. 5. Can we give Allen 6 months before bashing him? 6. We are not a playoff team next year, and rebuilding usually takes more 2-3 months.

on a side note, someone on ES claims DCsportsradio sent a twitter saying another team offered us a trade for a player and that, if it happens, it will happen today. someone there suggested Landry for Gathier would be a good trade, and I agree. we've got too many good strong safeties on the roster and we need a left tackle.[/quote]

Honestly a lot of it simply comes down to dumping older players with high salaries.

As far as the talent level goes I would argue we can find younger/cheaper players that can do as good or a better job. A lot of these "holes" are going to be filled from within as well from guys stepping up.

I understand being concerned, but as you said, there is still a whole bunch of time between now and the beginning of the season. I believe that if Shanny/BA wanted/needed Pashos bad enough, we would have gotten him.

Is it possible, albeit scary, that Foerester and the Shanhans have enough confidence in the guys already here to make a respectable oline?

Isnt it crazy after years and years of big free agent splashes, exciting moves, and a win it all this year attitude, those of us who were crying for vinny to blow it up and build a strong team somehow became addicted to the flashy, spendthrift identity that is the snyder redskins!
Now that we arent making "upgrades" or sexy trades to replace holes, some of us are in panic! Ive even heard from a few people that we didnt get peppers only because "danny finally ran out of money"

you guys relax! got to give them at least two drafts, two full seasons before we send the lynch mob in!

Two drafts? People are frothing at the mouth over two days! ha ha

People do need to remember that, so far, this is the weakest free agent period in years. So it really makes no sense to spend a lot this year.

For example, Rolle and Dansby. Rolle was drafted as a corner and failed. They stuck him at safety to see if they could get some production out of him but it really was an experiment. He is young and makes the Pro-bowl but they let him go? He hits the market and is made the second highest paid safety in the league this year. I think the Cardinals know something the rest of the league doesn't.

On Dansby, I think he is more of a sure thing than Rolle but $43 million dollars? I think I heard one analyst say that Dansby is a "second wave" guy if this was a normal year in FA.

Traditionally, there are several releases during the year. In the past, there were several years where I felt like we blew our wad the first day and missed out on some values later in the offseason. As it stands right now, we can pick up whoever we want. That is a good thing.

i agree with you Matty. With the strategy suggested in the article, we would be better off for 2010 and 2011, but then be right back in the same spot we are today. cheaper stop gap measures, with intentions on finding young talent is the way to go.

When you look at he weak UFA class this year, it just makes sense that many teams will be stongly considering making trades to improve their teams. We don't have enough draft picks to pull off many, if any, significant trades, so I think the FO may need to take a cold, hard look at which players they could make available in the right trade. I'd think that the following players could be valuable trade chips.

Andre Carter - He had a very good year in 2009 and he could help a 4-3 team. He didn't fare well as a 3-4 linebacker with the 49'ers, which is how we got him to begin with.

Chris Cooley - I did say a cold, hard look. With the development of Fred Davis, Cooley could be traded. He would have high value to the right team.

LaRon Landry - I think he's not much better than average as a FS but he is very valuable as a SS. We have two players who can do a good job at SS and we have two decent prospects at FS. If we were to trade Landry, I think we'd need an experienced FS in the short term, which we should be able to acquire.

Santana Moss - If he stays, I think he'll be moved to the slot and he'll play fewer snaps. He's still a very good WR who could start for a lot of teams.

Carlos Rogers - First of all, he doesn't want to be here. Beyond that, he's a starting CB in this league who would have good trade value.

I'm not knocking any of these players. The question is "Do we need starters at other positions more than we need them"? We really need a solid LT, for example.

I actually agree with it 100%. Given our needs, we should have gotten atleast two of Dansby, Rolle, Pashos and Clifton. All of them would have represented upgrades over what we've currently got on the roster in HB Blades, Kareem Moore, Levi Jones, Mike Williams, and Stephon Heyer, just to name a few. Letting Pashos and Clifton BOTH walk are the most inexcusable moves of the bunch. Would that have provided a long-term solution? No. But they'd give us time to develop some younger guys and, since there's no cap, there's no reason NOT to have overspent a little to get them here.

I'm not overly excited about any of the guys coming in to redskins park today and tomorrow, but if Larry Foote leaves without a contract, i'll be very disappointed.

Hard to believe some are upset over losing out on marginal guys like Clifton and Pashos, who in normal years would have barely registered a blip on most teams' free agent radar. I can see people getting upset over losing out on someone like Dansby, but then again if we're turning over a new leaf you have to at least give the new direction a chance. "Winning" the offseason hasn't gotten us anything in the past.

we'd only be back where we were today in 2012 if we traded 2010 and 2011 draft picks for veterans or the new CBA has a grandfather rule that penalizes teams who spent big in the uncapped year by taking draft picks away from them. bringing in free agent veterans in an uncapped year doesn't hurt the team if the players fit the system.
