Would you trade Rogers and our 2nd rounder for Sproles and a 3rd? Keep in mind it would be the last pick in the 3rd round
(And keep in mind I'm just the rumor mongering messenger here)
I don't like it at all. It smells like Champ Portis with less talented players. They would be getting a full time starter at a premium position and a much better pick. We are getting a very explosive (and fairly expensive) role player at an interchangable position. Pass if you ask me. |

Re: Mega-Merge: 2010 Free Agency Rumors and Reports Thread
i wouldnt trade carlos for sproles straight up so i certainly wouldnt throw in our very high 2nd round pick for a late 3rd.
that 2nd round pick has huge value in my opinion for a team needing O line help. I really think at that spot we can add a potential 10 year starter on the O line. im just not sold on sproles as anything more than a luxury player. |

Re: Mega-Merge: 2010 Free Agency Rumors and Reports Thread
For the record, I wouldn't do the trade either. I'd rather add a 2nd than give up one. And for those concerned it's one of many, many rumors that float out there every day that have little to no legs (which is why I don't mention them) but I thought this one was interesting enough

I am confident that we can get a day one starter with the 4th pick in the 2nd round. Late pick in the 3rd? I am not nearly as confident. |
Re: Mega-Merge: 2010 Free Agency Rumors and Reports Thread
After some consideration, I think I would pass on the Rogers/2nd for Sproles/3rd trade. Rogers is a mediocre db and Sproles would fit nicely here, but I can't get past giving up that early second round pick.

Agreed, we need the early picks for our line. |

Filed to ESPN: Rams reached agreement with former Giants DT Fred Robbins on a three-year deal worth up to $12 million.
1000% wrong. This article should have been shelved as soon as the author pointed to the Bears as who we should emulate. The Bears are the same team that traded a starting quarterback, two first round picks, a third round pick and a 5th round pick for a guy who was an absolute disaster. The Bears are in panic mode! Their entire front office is fighting for their jobs and they had no first or second round pick. They had no choice.
Please, if anything the Bears are emulating us. I mean giving up draft choices and signing free agents to monster contracts shortly after the start of free agency. Holding onto players past their prime . For now the Bears are the new Redskins. |

Anyone think this sheds some light on who the Rams will take in the draft? Robbins is older, but might the Rams be more inclined now to take a QB? Pure speculation obviously, just wondering. |

(And keep in mind I'm just the rumor mongering messenger here)
I wouldn't. The argument for trading Rogers is best supported by his age relative to corners on the open market (older than Bodden, roughly same age as Buchanon..who was drafted three years before), but Sproles is a 27 year old RB, which puts him at roughly the same distance from "the end" as Rogers. So once it's established that getting Sproles and giving up Rogers isn't really an upgrade (it at least moves some defensive talent to the offensive end), the rest of the trade is obvious enough. I would be interested if San Diego could offer us their late third rounder, and take our fifth off our hands. |
Re: Mega-Merge: 2010 Free Agency Rumors and Reports Thread
Keep in mind we could always trade down a few spots in the first round, still drafting in the first round mind you, and pick up another team's second round pick.
So now we have a mid to late round first rounder, a second rounder via another team, and a third (from the Chargers). In that scenario, we've essentially traded 'Los for Sproles straight up. Not quite, but you get the point.
It's true but I get nervous about something that might not be a proven commodity. Say what you will about his hands, but Carlos locks down most receivers. |
