I'd like a big safety like Tank Williams here. Marlon McCree is good too, but a bit undersized I think. A lot of people are talking about let's make sure we re-sign Ryan Clark, but I'm actually a bit more concerned we might lose Omar Stoutmire.
Yeah, I am a Tank Williams fan as well. We could get a great deal for him if he is recovered.
He came back early (8 or 9 months) after ACL surgery last offseason and still started every game last year. Understandably he played below his high level, and he had a high salary so the team cut him this offseason.
That kind of injury take at least a year to come back from, I willing to bet he is ready to play at his fomer level. We could get him for cheap, try him out this summer and see what he has left. He is listed at 6' 3" and 225, but Iwould say he is closer to 235. He is a big hitter.

Re: Predict our first major player acquisition

I know he's not technically a WR, but why can't we consider Chris Cooley our big WR?

I think more than a big WR what we need is someone who can take pressure and attention off of Moss. A 6'0 receiver can do that

you beat me to it. I completely agree with you

Oh come on Matty, just look at how big of a game changer Mike Williams was last year with all that size  ...:laughing-

Rod Gardner is tall and available...
nothing really makes sense to you unless we agree with you, so thats not surprising. all arguments are lame if they are not on your side of the fence. I dont like spending money on a 34 past their prime WR. You do, so what. We have two small WR 5-9ish. I think(THINK) we need a big WR.
Look at what Joey Galloway did last year at age 34 after a down year in 2004. Who's to say Bruce can't have the same resurgence?

Re: Predict our first major player acquisition

All this debate about finding a WR rests on the premise that our No. 2 WR wasn't getting open last year... thus accounting for the lack of production from Patten and Jacobs. The other possibility is, of course, that they were getting open but not getting the ball thrown to them.

The only way to know for sure would be to study film which I'm sure Al Saunders has done.

thats what we should be preaching. production. TEs are much bigger than big WRs, if you really want red zone threats, the TEs in this draft (near our pick) are probably better at getting yards and catches than the projected 2nd round WRs.

Right. And, bear in mind that tall WRs, especially those with a good vertical leap, make better red zone threats than little guys like Santana who is better at stretching the field for you.

i dont care about height so much as i care about toughness. i want someone to be able to go across the middle and not worry about them getting up after a shot.

According to Lenny P., our first signing will likely be Adam Archuleta.

"Even the cap-strapped Washington Redskins had revved the engines to owner Dan Snyder's private jet, and were set to ferry in St. Louis strong safety Adam Archuleta for a first-day visit."

I still don't know how I feel about Archuleta. Really have mixed thoughts on him and I don't think he should necessarily be a priority.

While Sean Taylor and Ryan Clark are a more than adequate duo IMHO, I think I can understand why the team might be targeting Archuleta. First, Sean Taylor might wind up in prison. Second, Ryan Clark is a free agent. At first I thought signing Archuleta would be a luxury we can't afford. Now, I think it would make sense if his demands aren't outrageous.
