Yeah Hogtimus, it was M&M speculating. I HATE that move.
Freddy: this is interesting -- Mort said there is no such clause in GWill's contract.
No, he said there IS a clause in his contract. And If anyone thinks Pete Carroll should be considered, you need serious medication. |
Re: Gibbs to Resign as HC/President
Well none of us saw this coming. The fact that he won't be back anything but a small capacity is even more surprising. Hopefully we'll get a GM so no one will ever say we need a GM ever again.

Re: Gibbs to Resign as HC/President
After i heard the press conference yesterday i got that feeling...I had a dream last night GW was the new head coach of the skins.
I wish JG would have stayed for 1 more year. If not JG i'd like to see GW. |

He initially reported that there was a clause, but he immediately called back after talking to an official in the Redskins organization and said that there was no such clause. |

That depends on whom the GM may or may not be! |
Re: Gibbs to Resign as HC/President
The first time Joe Gibbs retired, my wife came home and saw me on the floor in my Redskins Room decked out in my Skins gear....Hail to the Redskins was playing and I had 3 candles burning....one for each Superbowl victory.....she asked.....
Who died? I responded, "Joe Gibbs just retired" I knew what was over and what was coming....but 1 playoff win in the next 12 years....yikes. For some reason, though slightly shocked, I don't have that same feeling...perhaps its because I'm 40 now and not a complete psycho, or.... it could be because the team was well prepared for his eventual departure. It just seems a year too soon. Joe, Thanks for being such a good influence on the Redskins organization and fans everywhere!! You will be missed much more than how many wins you produced |
Re: Gibbs to Resign as HC/President
I just don't know how or why Cam Cammeron's name could be breathed out of someone's mouth right now. And haven't we had our fill of college coaches in the NFL?
I think people are drinking way to early in the morning. You should wait until at least 10 or 11. Let's review folks: Steve Spurrier Cam Cameron Bobby Petrino Nick Saban Butch Davis Rich Brooks Dennis Erickson Tommy Prothro Lou Holtz Bud Wilkinson Dick MacPherson Darryl Rogers Frank Kush Pete Carroll Al Groh The list probably goes on. All college coaches who failed at the professional level. Jimmy Johnson and Dick Vermiel are the exceptions, not the rule. Why anyone would suggest that we not only get a college coach, but that we get a college coach who has already PROVEN to be horrific at the professional level is beyond me. I sure hope somebody was joking. |

Re: Gibbs to Resign as HC/President
Down day for the Skins, but Coach Joe leaves us waaaaay better than he found us. Promote from within and let a new day dawn!

Re: Gibbs to Resign as HC/President
I'm a bit surprised, but not shocked. I thought Gibbs would stay for his 5 year term and then move upstairs as GM/President. After this year, the fact he is 67 and has some health issues I'm sure this is best for him and his family. He's given us so much as fans througout his time in DC. I'll miss him and always be a great fan of his.
I think in the news conference this PM or later this week, GW will be announced as the head coach and Saunders will stay on as OC. I know I have been critical of GW, but from the Bears game on I was glad to see him return to his aggressive defensive philosophy and scrap that Cover 2 defense. If Gibbs won't be doing the GM job then we DEFINITELY must hire a GM. I could see this being set-up as the same organizational structure as when Gibbs, Bethard and JKC were here. If GW and the new GM disagree on an issue they bring it to the Danny who will then consult with Gibbs and make final decisions. |
Well, at least there is one benefit.
New coaches get an extra mini-camp.
That's stretching for a silver lining. |

Re: Gibbs to Resign as HC/President
my 2 cents:
a little disappointed but i think it was time.... i hope gregg will take over i hope al stays to run the offense (although i don't think both these things happening is realistic) i hope kirk olividotti (linebacker coach) will at least be considered to take over the defense i hope campbell is still the man!
pretty much my sentiments,it would probably be better for williams to take over as head coach so long as he just coaches defense and leaves saunders alone,if williams is going to be like jeff fisher and reel in the offense then i'd rather see saunders get the gig.Dont know if the team would react well to a new coach outside of the organization,at least for now |
