I am editing my picks now that the combine is over. Calais, had a slow 40 and not impressive at all. Merling did not participate, that makes me worry.
Round 1 Derrick Harvey, Limas Sweed, Rodgers-Cromartie, and Quentin Groves(in this order)
Round 2 Tracy Porter, Andre Caldwell, and Heathe Benedict( All depending on what we get in the first).

Honestly, it's looking more and more like Dorsey could fall to us at #21. Do we take him there?

Thats tempting, and if a player that valuable falls to us at 21, then thats an offer we can't refuse. Unless he's going to miss the next two years due to injury then I'm all for it.

I'm not so sure i'd want to mess around w/ HL's daughter. I'm 6', about 195lbs. I'd feel a little inferior eating Thanksgiving dinner at the Longs'.

Them some pretty good genes though.

You got to figure the NFL is alot strenuous than college. If he cant make it though a shorter easier season it would be hard to take him. He is a great player and Yao Ming has a stress fracture and they will repair it surgically. Maybe, it can be repaired in that manor. Maybe, his foot, just needs time off of it. But maybe, he has week bones and can never stay healthy. Very risky pick.

Yeah that, and how do you discipline a kid that can beat the crap out of you by the time hes 10? Either way Howie has no daughters. Just three tough as nails sons.

Alright, it's a new day, so that means that I have to change my mock draft picks for the first two rounds.

[B]1st - Brandon Albert G/T - Virginia [/B]- While Albert isn't my most wanted player from Virginia he's surely in demand. At this point I think that this is our safest pick in the draft. If I remember correctly he played his senior year at LG which is great because we weren't able to run to the Left side like we were when Dockery was there. He also has the potential to play LT, which could come in handy should Samuals get hurt (knock on wood). Personally I think he could get to Randy Thomas's peak level in three years. The best part is he has no injury concerns that I know about.

[B]Pat Sims - DT - Auburn - [/B]At a draft deep along the DL Sims is a solid pick. Thats assuming that he even makes it to this spot. The good news is we could have Kentwan Balmer fall to us in this spot, but right now it looks like Sims is a 2nd round pick and from what I've heard the next best Interior DL at this point in the draft. I like how he explodes off the line and gets pressure on the QB. This could also continue the Auburn thing we got going though that didn't work out nearly as well as the U thing that has been the party line of recent palyer acquisitions.

[B][U]Alternate 1st Round Picks[/U][/B]
[B]Kenny Phillips - S- Miami -[/B] A lot of experts have him down as one of the ten best players in the draft. I like the fact they he has athletism and on top of that he's probably the safest pick for us in the draft (save Albert).

[B]Phillip Merling - DE - Clemson[/B] - The guys a complete player and he definately fills a need at end. However in a class thats exploding with depth on the DL I feel like we can afford to wait. Espcecially with our front office's ability to find talent after the 1st round. It's not that I don't like Merling, its just that I see Albert and Phillips as future Pro-Bowl caliber players.

[B]Lawrence Jackson - DE - USC -[/B] Guys a disruptive force coming off the Left side. In my opinion he seems like more of a boom or bust type. He's one of the few prospects with 10 plus sacks and he played in a great offensive conference. Durability is a concern. Also don't know enough about his ability to stop the run.

I hope gholston is still there at 21, his combine was amazing. I also wouldn't mind a pass rushing DT, Calalis Campbell, or Kenny Phillips.

Hold on, let me put on my Mel Kiper hair helmet. Alright there we go. Right now there is no way in my opinion that Gholston falls out of the top 10. The guy had an amazing combine to compliment a great season.

All week people talked about how Jake Long only gave up around 2 sacks in his career. Ironically one of those sacks was made by Vernon Gholston last year. He also matched Long on the bench press with 37 reps of 225 lbs.

Campbell is falling hard. He not only had a bad 40 time, but he finished last in bench press reps. Now the problem isn't the testing results themselves. What seems to be worrying scouts is that guy has a reputation as a slacker, and with all the preperation that rookies get for the combine test to mask their abilities its amazing that he did as bad as did. At this point I wouldn't be surprised to see him fall to the third round.

Phillips would be a great pick, but I don't see us being the new Lions with 3 safetys in the last 4 years. Oh well, at least our safetys pan out

Pass rushing DT is something we can get in the later rounds. And the best pass rushing DT thats available when we pick (Kentwan Balmer) also had a poor combine. With the availability of Pat Sims and Dre Moore I can see us waiting till the second or third round to get a pass rushing DT. If I had to bet on it I'd say we pick one in rounds 1-3.

Limas Sweed. We need a playmaker if we cannot get one in a trade. We have gotten d-linemen in later rounds that have helped us.

If you want a playmaker then I suggest you take a look at Malcom Kelly, Devin Thomas, or Jordy Nelson. Sweed rarely had a big game against teams like Oklahoma and Ohio State. The only time he really made an impact was against teams like Sam Houston State and Rice. He was pretty good in the Red Zone though but I think we'd be better served taking an OL like Albert or one of the many great DL available.

Jordy Nelson and Malcom Kelly played in the same conference as Sweed and were able to make an impact against good competition. Right now Sweed is nothing more then an athlete. Let the Titans take him.

Derrick Harvey if he's there. If not then take Cromartie. If memory serves correct I do believe we've had some previous luck with taking 1st round cornerbacks. Depending on the direction we go in the 1st I would select the wideout from Michigan State in the second or Quentin Groves in the second.

Round 1: Unless Dorsey Falls to 21 I'd have to pick Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie CB of Tennessee St. He had a 4.28 forty in the combine. He has been training with Darrell Green, and has tremendous potiential. I think that he could play while Rodgers is down in the slot and hopefully develop under Springs and Smoot's mentorship.

Round2: Devin Thomas WR Michigan St.
He is big, strong, fast and he is a play maker. He could be that difference maker for the skins. He plays special team. According to fftoolbox.com "This past season, Thomas caught 79 passes for 1260 yards (an average of 15.9 yards per catch). He finished with 8 TDs and averaged 96.9 yards per game. Those numbers are good, but the Spartans were a run first team this year. Even more astounding is what a big part of their passing attack he actually was. The second, third, fourth, and fifth leading receivers for Michigan State combined for just 1228 yards this season. The fact that he could get open enough to put up those numbers when every team they played was gunning for him is remarkable."

Third round: Trevor Laws DT Notre Dame- He produces and can make an impact

kffl.com, my combine post when i get around to updating it later tonight, and nfldraftscout.com, if you have a paid subscription (my free comp code finally expired in february :/)... google cache may let you cheat on that, but it's slow gathering info that way.

i've been against campbell just because there's never been a reason to take him beyond the fact that he's big. he obviously isn't strong or fast though, and harvey, merling etc have looked like better players since the draft names came out anyways.
