I haven't had much of a chance to listen to 980AM this week. But like I said, I HOPE Portis doesn't play. We need him 100% down the stretch a lot more than we need him at 60-70% for this one game.
Agreed. And you know, with Portis out, Zorn and the offensive coaching staff may have to resort to the unthinkable: relying more on the passing game to move the football.

We haven't seen Jason Campbell be a one-man wrecking crew yet. If it were up to me, I'd put him in the shotgun for 70% of the plays and let it ride.

No doubt. I don't know about 70% of the time, but I agree that more shotgun and creative playcalling will be necessary. I think we should hit Rock on some nice screen passes, get Cooley more involved, and spread it around. I say we take a deep shot or two to Devin Thomas as well. He may not know the playbook perfectly, but a go route ain't that hard. He'll definitely see single coverage.

There is no doubt in my mind that Jason can pick apart the Dallas secondary. I hope we give him the chance. If we try to lean on Alexander like we do with Portis, we'll almost definintely lose. But I think Zorn is too smart to do that.

IMO this will be our most unique offensive game of the season (as compared to our frist 9 games anyway).

The one thing that disappointed me about the Pittsburgh game was how Zorn and Sherman Lewis gameplanned for the Steeler pass rush. Dallas has some quick D-linemen too, (though nothing compared to Pittsburgh), so I'll be curious to see how they've gone back to the drawing board.

As an example, Troy Polamalu was rocketing to the line whenever Portis carried the ball on a stretch running play. I remember hearing a few years ago how offensive coordinators said the same thing about Sean Taylor, that he was susceptible to the running back option pass because of his ferocity to stop the run. So if I thought of it, you know someone on the coaching staff did. But they never tried it.

If there's a criticism I have so far of Zorn as a playcaller, it's that when the fecal matter starts hitting the rotary device, he doesn't seem to have in-game answers. Maybe that's something that will adjust as he grows into the job. When things are going smoothly, he's fine and we saw that at Dallas and Philly -- he knows how to keep things on a roll.

It seems like all the pieces are there for a dominating passing attack if they would just try it. Hell, even during Gibbs's first stint, he was known to go bombs away when he had to. I want to see that from Zorn the offensive mastermind too.

That's what I've been saying. It's not that complicated to go deep. Give Thomas a shot downfield. Anyone looking at our game film would definitely not expect it. This may be the time Zorn was looking to change things up anyway. If things go well, this game could be a tremendous boost to our offense. Throw Davis in the mix in a 2 tightend set and shake things up a little.

Looking more like 5/95%...and zero % if we are thinking beyond this game.

CP needs to sit out. Betts/SA and Rock need get keep the ground attack moving with the o-line having a stellar day.

Springs, Washington, Montgomery Still Iffy

From Jason Reid:

Cornerback Shawn Springs (calf) and strong-side linebacker Marcus Washington (shoulder) were limited in practice and said they might play against the Cowboys, although Zorn was more confident about Springs than Washington.

"I don't know about Marcus, but I'm much more encouraged" about Springs, Zorn said. "I did see Shawn run around, and I'm more encouraged about Shawn than Marcus. We'll just have to wait and see."

Betts Intends to Play; Portis' Chances '50-50'

From Jason Reid:

The Redskins received encouraging news about their injured top running backs, learning that primary backup Ladell Betts plans to play Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys and that lead back Clinton Portis expressed optimism about making "progress" as he recovers from a sprained knee

Betts returned to practice in a limited role Wednesday for the first time since he sprained his left knee Oct. 12 in a 19-17 loss to the St. Louis Rams. Washington's second-leading rusher with 156 yards, Betts continued to test his knee in team drills Thursday at Redskins Park.

I just watched a video of practice today the had MW fitted up with a shoulder brace and not doing really much of anything.

Watched a interview just a few minutes ago of SS on comcast before the hockey game. He states after the calf nick the dr's said it would be 4-6 weeks down.....? WTF? Did they cut your fckin leg off?

Then he laughed and said, Kelly I've been in the league 12 years what do I have left to prove....? How bout your fckin paycheck asshole! I'm so sick of this fcking guy that lives on the sidelines! I can't wait till hes gone. I'm way over his crybaby bullshit!

I suspected from day 1 of that injury that he tore his calf muscle. I've strained a calf before, actually bad enough that I could barely walk for a few days. No way in hell it takes 6 weeks to heal a strain.

What else do I have to prove he says? What a dick.

he might have been saying what does he have to prove meaning why should he practice in order to be able to play.. like some players do

First off they weren't talking about practice. The interview being conducted by Kelly she was talking about the importance of SS being on the field.

He stated something to the effect if he wasn't a 100% and couldn't have that burst off the line, he felt like it would be hurting the team. Come on.

No one in this business is 100% during the year or if I had to guess with there training regimen ever. Get your ass on the damn field and earn your damn check, stop making fckin excesses for your lame ass.

How many other warriors on this team play week after week with much more than just nicks and dings, most all! This is the same ole same ole for springs! Good for half a season if your lucky. Don't let the door hit you in the ass at the end of the season, when you retire.

Not quite sure I understand the venom towards Springs, he's injured. If he could be out there he would be. A corner with a bad wheel does us no good.

My feeling on springs is he just doesn't give a shit, an his attitude pretty much reflects that IMO. Have you heard of many players getting kicked in the calf and miss 6 weeks? Come on man, they guy is a fragile egg.

Don't get me wrong really good corner when on the field and maybe our best but Los is closing ground probably already has. But if you are never available to play you aren't worth a shit!

This isn't breaking news, we've been dealing with this constant nick or ding that causes SS to miss big chunks of most seasons for years now. Enough already.

It time for SS to go. I hope we can get a little return out of him this season before he departs, and IMO retires. The guy is done, if your a 50/50 guy you should be getting half a paycheck.
