Guys, I've decided that I'm going to start for us at LE this year. I just have to put on 60 pounds, and then the gridiron is the only place I wouldn't look ridiculous.
Bring back Charles Mann and Dexter Manley!! |
Re: Update: Evans Signs with Niners
Maybe there's something they really like about rob Jackson or they think Lawrence sidbury will fall to them in the 5th round...bring daniels back post draft if he's still needed

I think you might be right, there's something about those Kansas State players. Look at the Rock, Terence Newman, Darren Sproles and our own beloved Larry Brown. I hope Jackson is next. |
Re: Update: Evans Signs with Niners
But if Buzbee was waiting for an opening...this is pretty much as wide open a race as the Redskins have for a starting position.
The team loves Buzbee (at least they did last year), but I don't know if they see him as a full time starter. |
Re: Update: Evans Signs with Niners
Here we go again, the sky is falling. We released JT, we didn't resign a journeyman DE who's 30 yrs. old. The FO is retarded, Vinny sucks, Snyder only cares about money, etc. etc. :blah:
If my figures are correct we have $ 12.2M in cap room, after we were supposed to be in "cap hell" again for the 50th season in a row. There are still the following decent UFAs out there at DE, LB and OT: OL: Khalif Barnes, Gandy, Runyan, Marvel Smith, St. Clair, Tauscher, Tra Thomas, Ray Willis DE: Berry, Daniels, a bunch of no names LB: Derrick Brooks, Donnie Edwards, Mike Peterson There will also be June 1 cuts. In the draft we aren't locked in to a specific position or player so we have flexibility to get an immediate impact starter or trade down and get starters in two positions. If Orakpo is available at # 13 we take him, if one of the two top OTs (Monroe or Smith) falls, we take him. Otherwise we drop back into the bottom third of the 1st round and pick up a 2nd rounder. There we should still be able to target either Smith, Britton or Oher at OT, Tyson Jackson or Robert Ayers at DE, or one of the USC OLBs. We may get real lucky and get one of these players in the second if we manage a trade-down well. |
Olshansky isn't good, and I'm guessing he's looking for multiple years plus guaranteed cash. No reason to chase for him, in my opinion.
I'd look to add any older guy who will take a two year contract with less than 30% guaranteed. Look at Kevin Carter, Bertrand Berry, Paul Spicer, Marques Douglas, or Anthony Weaver. Or Daniels at the vet min for a single year is fine.
Wasn't he a high draft pick and a starter on a pretty good SD defense for the last few years?? I know he played end in a 3-4 but if he's out there we should take a look at him. I'd be willing to say he's way better than any of our current options. |
Re: Update: Evans Signs with Niners
Yeah, brilliant bring back a 36 yo end in Daniels. I hope Jackson, Buzbee, Wilson come up big. This smells like Orakpo being drafted.
Orakpo will most likely be gone by the time we pick. |

He did enjoy a good season in 2006, but he's been hurt, and SD never made a half-ass effort to retain him.
He's young, but does not appear to be explosive enough to be worth a lot of guaranteed money. For a short two-year "show me" deal, we could absolutely do worse though. |

Last capped year means that there's no added cap relief for waiting until June first to cut. I suppose there could be a flurry of activity then, but it would be purely coincidental. |
Re: Update: Evans Signs with Niners
I wonder if Evans was upset with Washington. From my understanding both teams had similar offers on the table for 2yrs and around $4M. Evans said he wanted to be back with the Skins and wanted a chance to start. So Jason Taylor gets released, therefore as soon as Evans signs a new deal with us, it's his job to lose.
So if we assume the Skins were offering him ~$2M/yr (almost 2.5x what he made last year), and he had his chance to start, why would he relocate 3000 miles to play for a worse defense? |
Re: Update: Evans Signs with Niners
Not too happy with this. I know that Daniels has a horrific injury history but I do not want to go into the draft with Chris Wilson as the projected starter.
I never thought Evans was really good but I would think he was worth $1.9 per year. Hello Renaldo Wynn and Daniels. It is 2005 all over again... Is there any chance the Johnson kid out of Tech makes it to our 3rd pick? Although he isn't big enough to be a full time D-end for us. He is basically another Wilson. |
I hope this isn't true. Renaldo Wynn is washed up and I'm surprised he hasn't retired.
Thank you!! |
Re: Update: Evans Signs with Niners
Seems to me there wasn't much interest in Evans right from the start.
Appears to be the most likely scenario. Well since we haven't picked up anyone in FA does this mean that we are looking to draft or just got caught off-guard? I'm sure this has been hypothesized several times over though, will read through. |
