re: Skins look to improve WR-Sign Roydell Williams (could add Hackett)
Once again, ARE isn't going anywhere. Cutting/trading him would create a cap hit of over $13M.

I think people are making a much bigger deal about this surgery than it really is.
I think the people that are ready to drop him off the roster due to fear are a bit too quick to pull that trigger. However, most here are concerned about a surgery that CAN AND HAS ended a career. It doesn't sound like people are making too big a deal out of this as much as it is Kelly supporters making too little a deal about it. Any time you have a potentially career ending surgery, it IS a big deal. I personally take the approach of giving the kid a chance. He has age on his side, so it doesn't hurt to wait 1 more year and see how it responds. If this is a problem 1 more time and he misses a large chunk of games, it's time to cut him loose and try again with someone else. About cutting ARE (from a previous post), from a purely straight approach, he is not earning his money nor is he playing to the level we expected. Therefore he should be cut. However, I do not know his cap implications, and we may be stuck with him a little longer. How much more time does ARE need to show he deserved his big paycheck? |
This is cool. I have Roydell Williams as the team's #3 WR on my Madden fantasy franchise league, with JC throwing to him. (Boldin is the #1 and Malcolm Kelly is a beast at #2, of course Portis and Cooley are on the team too) :D
No seriously, Roydell Williams could be a very good pickup for depth if he can stay healthy and focused. His numbers were a bit deflated because he had Vince Young as his QB last time he played. He did have 719 yards on a team with almost no passing game. I just hope we do not sign so many productive WRs that it stunts Kelly and Thomas' development and keeps them off the field more than they should be. Maybe we're planning on moving Randel El? We've found a replacement punt returner. I'd hate to see him go, he's actually a very good WR for us in clutch situations and 3rd down and adds a passing WR to our arsenal.
The only thing holding them back is them. We don't have time to "groom" them. They are big boys. Put up or shut up. |

This year no. Next year, definitely. |

What's his cap hit for next year? |

They're currently the #3 and #4 WRs...so they do not have to step in in Week 1 and take over the offense. It will be great if they can or do...but Moss and Randel El are still the main guys for now. After this season, the two sophomores need to be capable of replacing at least Randel El and possibly being the #1 and #2 guys if they need to be. Hopefully, Moss will stay healthy and productive for more years with the Redskins though. |

Sorry Matty. Sometimes the voice of reason, in this case you, is ahead of his time. |

I am assuming this is in reference to my ARE comments? Sorry man, don't have time to read the hundreds upon hundreds of posts. I can see from another quote it would cost us 13mil. How retarded! Guess we really are stuck with him. |
re: Skins look to improve WR-Sign Roydell Williams (could add Hackett)
Just check the cap sheets. Takes 2 seconds to basically tell if getting rid of a guy is realistic or not.

Just a FYI for the thread Devin Thomas was back at practice today.

Sorry man...it took me a little bit, but I found it. So why did you ask what the cap hit was for 2010 then? It shows it's around 10mil. (or was that sarcasm?) |

I thought that the hit was in the neighborhood of 5 million if they cut him next year before a roster bonus. Maybe I misread the article that I read about his restructuring but if it is indeed 10 million, restructuring him the way they did was pretty stupid. ARE is a marginal #3. If 2010 is uncapped, wouldn't it make sense to clear the decks of all the underachievers with stupid cap numbers? |
