regardless of his cover abilities, he MAKES PLAYS. isn't this what the league is all about?
Maybe I am wrong but I don't recall seeing Hall get toasted like Smoot and Rogers have repeatedly recently. Usually Hall is in the picture when his guy catches it and if Hall is in the picture there is always a chance he comes down with it.

even if landry's contributions "are not easily viewed on tv", he still needs to tackle. thats all i ask, tackle people when you get close to them. thats it. he is playing like garbage and needs to wake up.

To his credit he did have a nice pass defense and he did a great job on that goal line play.
Can someone teach LL the fundamentals of tackling?? I swear if I see him bounce off a guy one more time trying for the knockout shot...
exactly.. at least superman and put your arms out so that you can jerk him down while you go sailing if the hit doesn't do it on its own

bad angles and too many knockout attempts.. he thinks he's king shit every time he's the 2nd guy in on a tackle already being made.. after a 1st down yesterday he was still in the face of the guy for a few seconds before getting up

I think that it's been well demonstrated that he has a bad attitude between that, not showing up for public performances, saying stupid shit like roy williams was scared after the dallas game that we lost, etc

I know that they said they wanted Landry to be more of a big play guy this year but maybe they should pull back from that... the kid obviously needs to be coached up some more, I feel like they're just saying oh he's Landry he's fine
With 11 minutes, 30 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter and the Redskins holding an eight-point lead, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb connected with wide receiver Jason Avant over the middle. Landry lined Avant up for a big hit, but the Eagles' receiver bounced off and sprinted down the field for a 46-yard gain that moved the Eagles to the Redskins' 44-yard line.

"He made a great catch," Landry said. "I bounced off. You seen it like I saw it. He just made a great play."

The play helped spark the Eagles' game-tying drive, but when asked if he wished he had done something differently Landry was noncommittal.

"I mean, I was just trying to make a play," Landry said. "It wasn't my responsibility. I was just at the right place at the right time when he made the catch."
I'm still not sold on Kareem Moore either (while we're talking safeties). He looks out of place on the field.
gtripp, let me start by saying i really value your opinion. your knowledge is first rate, and usually spot on. but your pure hatred for Hall is starting to cloud your opinions. let it go. we get it, already. if you were calling the shots for the skins, Hall wouldn't be here. but enough already
Let's be clear here: The "standard" I reference is Blache's. It's could be called the "Landry standard" for all I care. Has nothing to do with Hall. It's defined as the standard given to players who Blache views as an integral part of our future, and how they don't have to worry about getting examples made out of them. They basically play by a different set of rules than players like Horton and Rogers, who are on a different "show me" standard for their play.

The ironic part is that Blache's opinion of our future has no relevance, and he should be treating all players the same, because that's what's actually in the best interest of this franchise.

It's not wrong to be critical of those who are unfairly critical of players on the Redskins (I do this with people who are unfairly critical of the QB all the time), but I doubt you can find even one instance where I have been overtly unfair to either Hall or Landry. You can go look it up, but you won't find it.
I love how people want to dismantle the one part of our team that we excel at.
With Tryon's INT, we now have 7 of them forced in 11 games, which is tied for 27th in the league.

Hall accounts for more than half of those, but I guess we still have difference definitions of excellence.

"unfairly critical" is such a subjective term

Personally, I'm glad we have someone in our secondary that gets turnovers
"unfairly critical" is such a subjective term
Zing.
Personally, I'm glad we have someone in our secondary that gets turnovers
As am I. Is it really all that hard to find someone who will do this though? I mean, we're paying Hall close to $8 million/year. If we decided to make our 4th round pick next year someone who could pair with Barnes and Tryon who had great ball skills and simple adequacy in coverage, someone on par with, say: Dominique Rogers-Cromartie, could that not be done? I think that kind of player is freely available.

I've come to realize I was wrong about Asante Samuel in the offseason, a lot of his interceptions are of the Ed Reed style--he makes plays when plays aren't necessarily there to be made, and I underestimated his coverage numbers. Hall, though, is exactly who he's been his entire career. I don't think he needs to be ripped for being that player, but he's not aggressive and doesn't ever challenge receivers. It's in no way unfair to make that observation.

you are acting like landry now, one decent game and he is an all pro, doubtful

that was his best play this year imo, he was like a solid brick wall, i would like to see him close up gaps like that more often

best part of that play... no smug ass grin and arms crossed shaking his head afterwards

:woot: We're 27th! :woot:

I thought that the argument was that Phat Al, Orakpo, etc., would force QB errors and our long-term problem with getting interceptions would be fixed?

Mostly, we've forced a lot more fumbles than we've recovered. But we've forced some bad passes with the pass rush, and have either dropped it (linebackers, looking at you), or just haven't been in position to make a play.

We're still trying to figure out this zone coverage thing. It seems like such a foreign concept to some of the defensive players, but we simply don't have the personnel to play man anymore.

My bad, I guess being ranked the number one pass defense in football is meaningless.

To each his own.
