Think Terence Austin is the guy who solidified that spot last night.

Banks/Thomas is a decision to make. Could keep both, then just three RBs and 8 Lineman. But I'm not sure we'd be able to use both.

Larry Johnson appears safe. Torain looks like the odd man out.

I don't think Thomas is fighting for a job. He is the best blocking WR and his combination of size and speed is too much to cut.
Only thing I think is dead wrong is at safety. Carter is making the team. With Moore out we'll have 5 safeties and Carter is the only real option for the 4th safety right now.
You're probably right but I guess it's hard to imagine a guy coming off the street 2 weeks ago and making the 53. It happens, I know..
M- honestly I did not see anything from DT that made me think hey we got our guy last night. More Drops.

He may have taken the punt and kick return job though with Banks putting the ball on the ground so much.
What drops did he have other than the bullet from 5 feet away from Beck late in the 4th? I don't remember him dropping another ball. Also, he's not a PR, that's Austin.

Thomas is a lock. Unquestioned.
Probably, the only way Galloway doesn't make the team is if a true #2 becomes available. Since that's not likely to happen before tomorrow Galloway will be on the team.
I get where your coming from but Galloway is not a #2 receiver himself. He hasn't done jack in the preseason and, as was discussed on ESPN980 this morning, the only 38 year old receiver to ever have anything even approaching success is Jerry Rice. If we consider history at all, Galloway won't break 20 catches or 200 yards the entire season. Start Devin Thomas or Armstrong instead of Galloway. The new guy we pick up will truly be the #5 receiver until he learns the offense.

I don't see how the team would be chosing between Banks and Thomas. Theyre completely different types of receivers and while Thomas secured his spot last night, Banks played his way out of a job. The true competitions, if there ever were any, were between Kelly/Thomas and Banks/Austin. Right now, Matt Leinhart has a better shot of making the team than Brandon Banks does.

I just don't see how you can keep Banks considering how careless he's been with the ball. I'd put him on the practice squad. Considering how thin the WRs are I can't see cutting Thomas either.

I think we could BS robert henson's knee injury put him on IR, making a spot available, like I don't know Anthony Bryant, Banks, Austin, or Torain.

It's a concern no doubt but you'd hate to expose him on the practice squad and then see him lighting it up somewhere once he gets past this bout of fumblitis.

If you take away Thomas' pedigree as a 2nd round pick.. would he make the team in your opinion? He hasn't done a thing that would make him a lock in my opinion...

He played like a second round pick receiver last year, especially during the Saints game. He still has a lot of potential, and between him and Banks, I'm cutting Banks because he so two-sided of a player.

Considering our current group of WRs, regardless of where he was taken yes he makes the team. I really don't see what he's done, or hasn't done this preseason, to be cut. And I'm certainly not keeping Banks over him.

That's the chance you take. I'd rather roll the dice and put him on the PS than use a roster spot on him when he can't be trusted to hold on to the ball yet.

I don't think he's that huge of a risk to be signed to someone's active roster considering his size and current fumble issues.

Really, I don't think Thomas has done anything in the preseason to either get himself cut or to make the team. I think this is more about Banks. Does Shanahan want to employ a 5th/6th WR whose primary value is that he's blindingly fast? Or does he push the specialist to the practice squad to take the more complete player, Thomas.

The biggest thing that came from last nights game was that the third option, keeping both and cutting Austin, is not much of a choice. Austin is now at least as much of a lock as Galloway, and probably more. Austin could be our no. 3 WR as soon as next year.
