Re: 2012 Free Agency Wish List
Goldson is undeniably one of the more physically gifted safeties in the league but I think he was the very worst starter on the 49ers this year. He was the weakest link. Not deserving of his pro bowl nomination (though not as egregious a pick as Antrel Rolle in 2010). He's out of position way too often, and tackles like Landry on LSD.
I still think Tyvon Branch is the best with Landry as a very close second. After that, the class is kind of weak. Leonhard is a system guy. To me, the best possible signing for the Redskins would be Tanard Jackson. And he comes with more risk to the team than Landry does for sure. Which is why I would just keep Landry. Safeties Tyvon Branch LaRon Landry Dashon Goldson Michael Griffin Dwight Lowery Thomas DeCoud Jim Leonhard Brandon Meriweather Reggie Smith Sean Jones
I'd be curious to see what the pundits write about the Redskins safety situation. I'm sure there will be a lot of talk about Landry...but I'd be curious to see what the team does if he's not an option (which I believe he is not given his injury situation...unless he pulls a miracle recovery). The same goes for Atogwe, unless Gomes improves a lot in camp. |

Needs to bulk up too. He looked like Brandon Banks when he was trying to tackle Gronkowski in the NE game last year. |
I don't think Eddie Royal will make a Hester like impact on our team next year but I would bring him in if Shanny felt he could restore him to his better days. Plus he's still young and he has familiarity with Shanny. I put a big emphasis on free agents' familiarity with coaches trying to sign them. You have to know what type of player they are, and Shanny has that comfort level with ER.

Re: 2012 Free Agency Wish List
I wouldn't address WR through FA with a big name signing, I don't think its that big of a need.
However I like the idea of bringing in Royal because of his previous production under Mike Shanahan, his familiarity with the scheme. I would address Safety but would aim at the draft and seek a long term solution to one of the safety spots. If we did address Safety through FA hopefully the target will be a young safety with the potential to prove himself as a starter. |

So a 32 year old Moss coming off of his worst season, a 31 year old Gaffney coming off his best season (and not likely to improve on it), Armstrong whose production was non existent, Stallworth who was released mid-season, Paul who was targeted a total of 5 times in 16 games and Hankerson who couldn't get on the active roster until Week 9 and then was lost to a season ending injury doesn't represent 'that big of a need'? I think Hankerson will be fine and a starter.. Paul is likely more a ST player than a legitimate WR prospect.. Other than that, where's the optimism coming from about our current WR group? Outside of QB, this is our worst offensive unit and needs the most attention. |

I saw TMac play when he was a senior in high school. Mount Zion, these guys looked like they were from another planet. |
Re: 2012 Free Agency Wish List
I don't think it makes sense to let Landry walk, and then sign a safety. Franchise him, and if he isn't healthy Gomes can play.

What about signing the safety out of Oakland? |
