Re: The Cut List 2014
With he expanded PS, Hocker might go there and continue to work and learn. Then, he would be readily available if needed. That is the best scenario I can think of at this point unless they bring in a vet PK who was cut by another team.
Count me among those who believe that Forbath's poor kickoffs are going to hurt us this season. If the Skins can sign an accurate PK with a strong enough leg to virtually eliminate the threat of kickoff returns against them, I hope they'll do it. |
Not to get off topic. But Forbath too missed a field goal in the first preseason game. Hocker sent his kickoffs for touchbacks during the majority of his kickoffs and Forbath failed in this area. If they are going to draft a kicker who is #1 accurate, #2 has a stronger leg than the kicker they want him to push, then why not just send the other kicker his walking papers?Forbath won't be what he was two years ago....Hocker is the better kicker of the two....Hocker even showed that he could hit on special teams....DEFINED.
I heard he missed quite a few kicks in practice according to Chris Russell. |
Re: The Cut List 2014
I think the coaches probably didn't want to go into the season with a rookie kicker. Forbath makes most of his field goals and to me that's what's most important, not the kickoffs.

Re: The Cut List 2014
I feel much better going into the season with Forbath than Hocker. We've all seen his expertise on field goals, and it's great that we still have a guy that can come out and nail them reliably. And perhaps an improved coverage unit will help mask his poor kickoffs.

Re: The Cut List 2014
Problem with Hocker is he wasn't all that accurate in college. To win the job he needed to have a perfect summer and he didn't. Tie goes to the vet.

Re: The Cut List 2014
When do we start hearing about practice squad and waiver claims?

It's not necessarily a matter of choosing between two individuals each of whom has his weaknesses. The job description is to have both FG accuracy and kickoffs that aren't returnable. The Skins should not just surrender any advantage to our opponents. They need to keep looking for a PK who can do both. Forbath should be viewed as our interim PK, as far as I'm concerned. I'm fine with his FG accuracy but that's only part of the job. His KO's are substandard. We can and should do better. Kickers kick forever, so Mr. Right Kicker for Us might be 40 years old and working as a bartender right now. I don't care where they find him. They just need to find him. |
Re: The Cut List 2014
Forbath has improved his KO distance since last year, hopefully he can continue to improve in that area. He didn't kickoff in college so he's still a work in progress in that area.
Mike Jones @MikeJonesWaPo Aug 30 Forbath averaged 66.4 yards per kickoff attempt this preseason. 60.2 and 63.2 previous years. Never did it in college. |

Did you watch this guy every day in practice? Did you see his habits, and every field goal and kickoff he attempted in front of the coaches? I'm just going to go ahead and assume you didn't. Which is why I'll trust their opinion over yours. |
Re: The Cut List 2014
In some future years extra points might be 30yarders and kickoffs eliminated. I like Forbaths accuracy, and if that means the rest of the special teams squad has to hit and stop guys, so be it. If our kickoff teams actually stop guys maybe we can hold them inside the 20 and render the touchbacks moot.

Redskins make no waiver claims, and Bolser to the practice squad |

Re: The Cut List 2014
I think we claimed Duke Ihenacho from Denver. He was cut probably cause of the TJ Ward signing. I think he could be a huge pickup for us. Good in the box safety
