Brees had major shoulder issues early in his career. I believe the perceived injury risk was the reason why Miami chose Culpepper back when Brees was a FA. |

You can see by how they called the game and by the comments of Gruden, they're not going to sit back and ask KC to not do much. If anything, the game plan will be more aggressive. |

Good example. |

Brees was a rookie in 2001 and hurt his shoulder in 2005. Not quite the same. |

Phil Simms had significant injury issues his first 4-5 years in the league. |

I don't think anybody is saying it can't be done, it just doesn't happen very often... I'm not ready to pull the plug on III by anymeans... All I'm saying, and I think most of the board is, that if Cousins plays well this season and wins some games, I don't see how we can trade him/let him walk and put all our eggs in the RGIII basket... To me, that would be ignoring the reality he might never be the QB we drafted him to be... And we would be dumb to let Cousins go... |

Can't keep them both. Logic says trading Cousins is still the plan, unless Cousins plays out of his mind and the team wins a ton of games it's hard to imagine the plan changing. |

Dirtbag brought up Aaron Rodgers as an example earlier in this thread...

Re: Griffin Out For Undetermined Time, It's Cousins Time
I think we need to revisit this convo after Kirk has played in a few more games.
And, no, Smoot, you're not the only one who saw RGIII playing well before he got hurt. I saw it, my wife saw it (before she fell asleep on the couch, lol!) In the end, whatever and whoever gets us to another Super Bowl championship is who I'll roll with. If it's RGIII, Kirk Cousins, or Stone Cold Steve Austin, that's who I'll pull for. Team first! But for the record, if we do compare RGIII to Joe Theismann, Doug Williams, and Mark Rypien in their primes, RGIII is probably still head and shoulders over in terms of athletic ability and ceiling height. |

I think they can keep them both until 2016 when both of their contracts are up. By then everyone will know what RG and KC can do and then go from there. |

In the end, probably the best course of action. |

Both have 4 year deals that are up after the '15 season, Griffin has the 5th year team option. The downside of holding them both is you obviously lose the ability to trade Cousins. |

By then, the league should have an idea of the fair trade value of one or both players, which might help to get a deal done if Cousins plays well. Because of Cousins' expiring contract, we won't be able to wait beyond this season to trade one of them. But that is getting ahead of ourselves. I'm focused more on beating Philly right now. |

Thanks for the contract clarification. The downside of trading KC too soon is that you completely hitch your wagon to what is a damaged and apparently injury prone horse. |
