Re: Commanders Regular Season Thread vol 1
Believe it or not, Week 1 vs Jacksonville is a Code Red Must Win game.
After that, Week 2 vs the Lions is a Code Red Must Win game. You couldn't ask for a better start to the season as far as schedules go - a "home" game vs the team with the least wins in the NFL last year, and game 2 vs the other team with the least wins in the NFL last year. Honestly 1-1 would be unacceptable, 0-2 and heads must roll.
Holy shit a code red in week one. This might be a long season folks. |

I see expectations are reasonable as usual

Re: Commanders Regular Season Thread vol 1
I'm not sure the comparison of Hicks to Holcomb is the right one to make -- the relevant one would be Hicks to Bostic or Mayo, as we'd be talking about Hicks (or someone like that) as opposed to one or both of them. I was hoping for Kwon Alexander. Not sure who is out there now that would be of interest.

Between Hicks and Bostic, at this point I'd rather have Bostic. He's no B Wagner, but we were never going to get him, or a similar caliber player anyway. I'm not sure there was another one out there. I think it was B Wagner, then a handful of backups to choose from. I guess I'm ok with the LB group. They must be pretty confident in Holcomb's ability and Davis' development, and they obviously weren't enamored with any of the other names out there. My guess is if Bostic wasn't released, they probably would have addressed the position in another manner - bringing in someone else, but they know what they are getting in Bostic as he was part of this defense when they were pretty good a couple years ago. |

I have higher expectations than most probably. I would be surprised if they don't win at least 10 games. I think Vegas has them winning around 7. I'm absolutely taking the over on that. To get there though, they cannot afford to lose to the Jags or Lions. |
Re: Commanders Regular Season Thread vol 1
Like to say Hello Commanders fans from all points!!!!
This is a VERY OBSERVANT YR 3. There is supposed to be something to this, one even if Young and Robinson are delayed by some games. This will not stop this team from producing what should be a POSITIVE YR in the win column, meaning at least 9 games in wins. I expect no less. I agree on Howell, saw him play here in Winston Salem against Wake Forest. It was the Sam Hartman, Sam Howell duel and they lit the airwaves up. Sam Howell won the game, but Hartman's team stayed alive for the ACC Championship game. Howell showed all the makings of a Very Good QB, Hartman has a Herbet type game. He's no bulldozer like Howell who runs a lot like Josh Allen. He's tough and smart on route running, getting the first down. He's like a better of Heinicke, with a canon arm. I believe is a 2 notches better than Heinicke and 1 better than Howell. Hartman is available in 2023 Draft and is better than all three, IMO, but not by much. He sees seams, out's whether dump, short, long , over defenders. |
Outside of Wagner, who I dont think would come here ... I dont see any good options on that list.
Myles jack? 37.7 pff last year but Id trust the steelers in thinking hes worth 8M per.
I would have taken Myles Jack, Jordan Hicks, Kwon Alexander, Kyle Van Noyle, Joe Schobert, Anthony Barr, Anthony Hitchens (still available), Dont'a Hightower (still available), KJ Wright (still available), and even KPL (still available) over Jon freakin Bostic and David Mustard. Except Myles Jack, every one of those guys signed for 5M or under. Even you wanna say nobody would've unarguably taken Holcomb or Jamin's job, it would've brought competition, allowed us to line up a 4-3 if needed, and give us quality depth ! |
Re: Commanders Regular Season Thread vol 1
Is Landon Collins still available - for the Buffalo nickel role? He did that well and knows the D. If he could embrace not being a safety (and no one else will see him as such), it could work.

Rivera also said that we resigned Bostic to help Davis grow as LB. So there's that.

I called Bostic’s return back in the spring, really hoped I’d be wrong
