Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
Sam Baker Atlanta
|
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
Atlanta selected Sam Baker. I didn't think he would be a first rounder.
|
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
All right! What are the details! Come on, Boys!
|
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread

|
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
Tell me we got blessed because we are completely out of the first round now.
|
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
Sam Baker Atlanta
Huge reach and they gave up picks. Good for us, bad for them |

It's from work. We're getting new PDAs this summer though. My inbox is getting flooded by my various spies at the draft. They're all saying different things, so they might as well be telling me nothing :) |
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
i hopes its for the faclons 1st next year plus a 2nd this year . .
|
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
What did we get in compensation!?!?!
|
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
Man, an Atlanta 1st round in 09 could be amazing...
|
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
we get 2 2nd's and a 4th
We give up a first, third and fifth. Seems a wash, not like we took em to the cleaners. |

Matty's server is getting crushed right now too. The picks from ATL look good. Their two 2nds, and 4th for our 1st, 3rd & 5th. |
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
From JLac: "UPDATE - Get Falcons, 34th, 48th picks in the second round, plus a 4th rounder"
|
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
two 2nds and a 4th from ATL for our 1st, 3rd, and 5th
- Per Smootsmack |
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
I do not like this trade. We needed to get more than that. Giving up our 3rd is bad news.
|
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
2nd round galore! I like, very very much!
|
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
More JLac:
Skins Make A Helluva Deal Getting 3 picks for this pick, one the team was never married to and one where it may have required a stretch given their needs, makes all the sense in the world. They get 2 second round picks - 34 and 48 overall - and also get a 4th round pick, which they previously lacked (103 overall). So the Skins pick 34, 48 and 51 in the second round, then have two third round picks as well. You can not load up on needs at O and D Line in that 2-3rd round range, and you are still going to be able to get a quality WR as well. Maybe not with as much upside, but kids like Simpson from Coastal Carolina could be excellent in the third round even if they don't take Kelly or Nelson in the second round. Merling might be there with the 34th pick as well. |
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
I love the trade. That gives us 3 2nd rounders, 1 3rd, 1 4th, 1 6th and 3 7ths.
|
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
Sad to lose that thrid rounder, but happy to have two more twos.
|
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
Umm, I don't like it.
We should have been done with getting the additional 2nd round picks. NOT giving up our 3rd and 5th. |
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
I'm happy even if the draft chart says we were on the losing end of that trade. We hit the sweet spot of the draft (i.e., 2nd-4th).
|
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
everyone start donating money so Matty can buy more bandwidth!
|
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
I think the trade was a smart move. We now have three, 2nd round picks, our Comp. 3rd round pick and a fourth round pick and our 6th and 7th rounders.
I like the trade, more picks. We gave up a 21 in the first round and a late third round, and a 5th. For two early second round picks and a fourth. Has anyone looked at the points of the trade? The warpath site is barely functional, everyone else having the same problem? |
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
Financially, it's a great trade. The 34 and 48 picks should be easier to sign and cheaper than a 1st rounder.
|

Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
Why does Ed Werder only seem to cover the Boys? ESPN doesn't seem to have a Redskins, Giants, or Eagles beat reporter.
|
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
Ive been saying for months that we trade down and get Kenny Phillips and Calais Campbell. I didnt think we would get a receiver too ;)
|
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
In the second round, how much time between picks?
|
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
yet more Jlac, with his correction:
The Full Trade (We Were Given Wrong Info From the Team, Here's The Full Details Now) Here's The Trade, as the team now reports it to us in the media room: Skins get the 34th and 48th and 103 pick Skins trade 21 overall, 84 overall (third round), and 154 (5th round) So they had two third and a fifth round pick originally, and now have the following picks. 34, 48 and 51 in the second round 96 in the third round 103 in the 4th round they dont have a 5th round pick now they have 1 sixth round pick and 3 in the 7th round (two comp picks there) Sorry for the confusion. Skins still end up right now with 9 overall picks. It's obviously not the fleecing that was first announced here in the media room, not close, but still a nice deal. |
Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread
S+C, Don't you think Kenny Phillips is going to go to the Giants at #31?
I'm thinking we get a DE (Calais Campbell) and Jordy Nelson in the 2nd round... |
