Gotta think the whole network is laid out in these items, and impressive that the SEALs collected them all in about 20 minutes, takes me 20 minutes to move a computer from one office to another LOL

I think it's important that the media also comply by not showing images of OBL alive. If the president thinks it not wise to release photos, why can't the media, in their incessant coverage, stop showing images of him speaking to followers, walking through the mountains, toting guns, or whatever. Let's not resurrect his corpse at all.

On the flip side, I don't see anything wrong with the government showing the photos to family members that request to see them or members of Congress. I think that's totally fair and appropriate.

I like the allegory Obama used to describe his decision not to publish the photos: "There's no need to spike the football." Haha well said.
Personally, I don't think the photos need to be release, nor any video on the operation. It would be ridiculous to release any video, given the secrecy behind the SEAL Team 6. I am fine with no information like that released.

If there was any doubt that bin Laden was alive, Al Qaeda would be quick to say something about it.
Releasing a couple still frames of a corpse with no homeland "could pose a national security risk" but executing a military operation inside of an unstable, nuclear armed country, without their prior approval is not???

These photos certainly pose less of a threat to national security than the initial decision of entering Pakistan and absconding with a sensitive target.

What I know about politics can fit into a thimble, but when citing reasons for actions, make sure they are uniform. Release the photos.

I'm no conspiracy theorist but I'd like to see something that corroborates the US's account of what transpired.

All of us are getting their account of what happened from President Obama but even he has 2nd hand information. All the citizens have a 3rd hand account of what happened. I'd just like to see some 1st hand visual evidence of the result of that rather significant firefight that left Bin Laden dead.

This was a 9.5 year hunt that used up billions in taxpayer money. The war on terror is not even close to over but the face of it is. These are extenuating circumstances which should toss formalities aside, like Obama did when he pulled the trigger on that military op.

Release these photos.

MTK 05-04-2011 08:20 PM

Obama and others around him have seen the pics. I don't see why the public needs to see them. I think we have enough info to know that he's dead. The wacko conspiracy theorists will believe what they want no matter what.

Here we go...scroll to the pan out shot of a deceased guy with 02-MAY-11 2:39 in the corner. This is what I'm talking about, dead guy with computer USB and monitor cables to the left of his shoulder. Gore aside, this photo is what I'm looking for.

The White House said that they took a number of computers and hard drives. This shows that they took just the computer housing and left all the ancillary cables that are not needed. Very cool, and very insightful, I feel like I'm there, our guys just yanked those cables out of the housing and confiscated the machine, all very 1st hand visual information, fully corroborated.

The guy pictured is dead as fried chicken so that is also very visceral and really easy to comprehend. Now all I need is a picture of someone resembling Bin Laden in the same shape and I can finally have visual closure that I'm looking for. Throw in a few of his corpse being sunk in the sea and I never speak of it again.

It's funny that Obama cites the conspriacy theorists and says they won't believe him even if a picture is shown, they won't be convinced otherwise.

The same can be said about the terrorists that are going to jihad just because they see the picture of a dead Osama. The terrorists who decide to take up jihad are just going to do so because Bin Laden is dead, they don't need a picture.

Pictures are worth a thousand words they say...it'd be easier to recruit more jihadists with a picture than words alone. Again I don't get the obsession with geting these pics out in public.

Agreed. While I'd personally love to see the photo of that son of a bitch with a hole in his head, it doesn't really do much good to show the world the photo. For me, I'd want to see it for a visceral gratification, but I'd say 95% of the world has enough imagination to picture in their minds exactly what we could show them. No need to "spike the football" as Obama said. We scored the touchdown. It's obvious.

It's almost like, yeah, we killed Bin Laden, but why brag about it? 9/11 doesn't happen without him. At the very least we should put a bullet in his head. He's lucky he didn't get quartered and taken to the four corners of our country and put on sticks. So to parade his corpse on the net/news is grandstanding to a degree about something that frankly should have happened sooner than 10 years after the fact.

Our maybe the thought it was one of those new Lazar guns and he was just itching for a reason to try it out. I think that was a chunk of his brain beside the gun that he should have been using.

As far as the pics I thought part of the reason for not bombing the place was so we would have evidence that we got him. The only evidence is the pictures.

re: Bin Laden Killed
Smart move by the Pres. The faster people forget about bin laden the faster what he stood for becomes irrelevant.

Something else ive been thinking a lot about is the timing of the raid. They were pretty sure since August bin laden was there. They were pretty much positive that bin laden was there since feb. Im guessing since august they started looking pretty deeply into if Pakistan was involved or perhaps to what extent Pakistan is involved. Also they were probably hoping other top al qaida officials might get caught when the courier communicated with them. Maybe hoping to get some intel on if al quida has a nuclear bomb or anything they may be planning or how strong they are or how influential bin laden really was anymore. Im also thinking in feb. there was way too much uncertainty going on with Middle East riots… even though things are still far from settled.

It makes sense to do it on May 1st, a Sunday night so youll have a whole week of positive news on the administration. This is clearly good for Obama’s ratings, and doesn’t hurt that this happened right before the start of Republican primaries. Pres Bush declared “Mission Accomplished” 8 years ago to the day….. The news Hitler died was announced on May 1st. And May 2nd is Holocaust Remembrance Day a Federal holiday in Israel. Recently released wikileaks also could have made bin laden feel like the US was getting close and make him change hiding spots, or at least worry the US into thinking he might make a move.

Im thinking this was a pretty calculated date, probably for reasons less-political or coincidental that what I listed above. It may not have been the number one choice but was probably up there and could have been slightly forced by wikileak documents or more likely something we have no idea about.
Also the day before bin laden was killed Gaddafi's son and 3 of Gaddafi's grandchildren (all young ages) and a friend were all killed in a NATO air strke (i thought we were susposed to be staying out of this?). This definitely didnt get much attention.... i mean heck no one even bumped the World Revolution Thread 2011.

Whats a Lazar gun?

Also in addition to DNA there are countless eye witnesses both on our side and bin ladens side.

re: Bin Laden Killed

I am certain that the photos have been circulated within international governments at some level to substantiate the death of Bin Laden. The question is more about putting them out for some sort of public gratification.

I don't have an issue either way, but I do think the issue goes away faster without public pictures than with them.

Doubtful, at least any time soon.

For al Qaeda, losing bin Laden is like losing your beloved quarterback. Morale sinks and it takes some time to come back, if you ever come back.

Also, al Qaeda plans meticulously. They planned 9/11 for 5 years. It will take them some time to come up with a new plan which will not be compromised by the data taken from bin Laden's house.

Put differently, if al Qaeda could whip up a plan to attack the USA overnight, we would have seen more attacks since 9/11.
