Rypien to Monk, Clark, and Sanders. So special.

https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2018/quarterbacks-and-pressure-2017
Kirk's DVOA ranked 13th without pressure and 18th with. Alex's ranked 6th without pressure and 6th with pressure. Interesting read, not sure what to read into it if anything but I definitely like it. (and it is certainly no less poignant than a Spaight pff stat.) |

Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
Hadn't seen this quote from AS about what he said to his agent, but I love it:
“It’s a [expletive]-ton of money, man,” Smith says now, with a chuckle. “Haggling over $2 million more or something? Nah. I’ve played a long time. Let’s get fair market value and let’s go. Get it done.”
|
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
I just want the Alex Smith of last year, not the one that didn't throw a td to a wr for an entire season.

Pretty sure AS and Gruden are gonna get the ball to whoever is healthy enough to catch it. |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
alex smith often doesnt .... Let plays develop. He is quick to get the ball out to the short man. He comes off of his progressions way too fast, and often moves off of his primary or initial secondary target right before that player breaks open. Its maddening.
Regardless, year after year, alex is below average at 3rd down conversion rate relative to his peers. High completion percentage. High passer rating. Low conversion percentage. Unfortunately, the conversion rate is the important part, and alex has never been good at that.
[rockvoice] IT DOESN'T MATTER, what he doesn't [/rockvoice] |

Unfortunately, what he doesnt often overshadows what he does. Which is why two teams moved on from him in the middle of playoff runs. |

Wait until Mahomes is out of the NFL in 4 years and Smith is still playing. |

I think Mahomes is the real deal, kid has all the tools to be a good QB. That being said Alex is still in his prime and will be very good for another 3-4 years. SF moved on from him because they thought they hit the jackpot with CK, believe me they regretted it before landing JG. |

Thanks for your initial input but really, why are you still hanging around? |

I mean, if you guys dont want me to come around, I wont. But I have always hated every team in your division aside from you guys, and do have an interest in your team now. But I will gracefully bow out of this thread if you guys dont want another perspective. |

There's just something about about Alex Smith that makes you want to pull for the guy. I think we're in good hands the next few seaaons.

Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
Cousins took less money to be on a Super Bowl contender rather than a terrible Jets team. Makes sense to me
|
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
Yeah it does make sense to Kirk Cousins. As really Jets has a rookie under center. May had if Teddy was under center for Jets, they would had Sam learning.

We're in first place, but it's not because of Alex Smith. The dude is 29th in passing yards per game. He's tied for 25th in td passes. This man is HORRIBLE! We need bench him before it is too late. |

look he may suck hair meatballs right now but he's not turning it over and we are getting wins, which is what we will settle for and should be content... not overly happy or excited obviously, but content with 6-3? yes. |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
Alex was pretty good against TB. His TD pass was as good as it gets back there. Missed a couple deep balls but overall I'd say a B-
|
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
I found this interesting...I start to look at the CBS Mock Drafts around this time to get familiar with the prospects. For the first time, I saw they has the kid from WV, Grier as our pick late teens first round.
I wouldn't be opposed to getting a young QB in now to learn under Smith. Make sense to me. I don't know if I want to spend a first though...thoughts? |

the Doctson TD throw.........he had all day to effing throw the ball. That really stood out to me. |

Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
I can't tell if Smith is that bad or our WR's just don't create any space.
|
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
I keep saying it, but seriously...why not give McCoy a shot? He knows the offense better than anyone, and he can’t be any worse than Smith. He also plays with a LOT of energy. Smith looks like a falling asleep idiot out there.
He might allow Gruden to open it up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
A QB change at 6-3 sounds brilliant
No potential for disaster there Alex is our QB folks, time to accept that we’re not a high flying passing offense right now |

meh didn't think the window was that tight. I was more impressed with how he bought time by moving and went through progressions. That is something that he does far better than we've had or would have with McCoy for those calling for him. |

They are not the same QBs, Kirk is a better passer but I still say Alex is a better decision maker.
The ineptitude of management is no match for a fan base.
Yeah...like letting Cousins and McVay walk. We NEVER had a problem putting up yards and points on offense, it was always the defense the that was the problem. Now we have a really good defense and an idiot at QB with a coach who’s once high flying offense is now dumpster juice Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
Let me be CLEAR here. Smith BLOWS really bad. We could have saved the money and given McCoy a chance. (A guy who knows the offense better than anyone and plays with energy).
Instead we spent a draft pick, Fuller and how much on this idiot!!!?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
