I like the New Banner!!!

Re: Welcome your Washington Commanders
The extremism on both sides is so funny and frustrating. On twitter right now it's basically "I hate this commie expansion team! I'll never ever ever cheer for them" or "WE ARE COMMANDERS! I drew this picture of a hog and it should be our new mascot, thank you Jason Wright for including us!"
Also, a stark reminder that this is the best Washington Football community around |
Re: Welcome your Washington Commanders
I'm a bit concerned over my reaction to this. I had/have taken the position to just ignore the name change and it worked for me when it was just Team, but now I'm finding my interest in the franchise just not there and it is not a conscience deliberate reaction. I'd normally be pouring over draft prospects but have no inclination this year - I just don't care what they do in the draft or free agency. Wondering if this will carry over into the season. Damn shame because I want to care - but just don't.

Re: Welcome your Washington Commanders
New banner is sick ! Nice work Summo !
I know I'll get used to/on board with this new name over time, but I'm gonna need some nice things to help get me into it, and I have to say those visuals are real nice! |
Re: Welcome your Washington Commanders
+1 for the new banner Summo.

Re: Welcome your Washington Commanders
Allen wore the old helmet in pro bowl game.
|
Re: Welcome your Washington Commanders
Not like anyone needed a helmet. That was terrible, gets worse every year. I'm not sure what the point is.
|
Re: Welcome your Washington Commanders
Does anyone have actual pictures of the black helmet, other than the one JA was wearing in the announcement photos and that were on the mannequin? JA wears a big ass oldskool helmet and facemask.
I'd like to see what it looks like on a Riddell Speedflex helmet. One mock-up I saw had the numbers pretty big on the side and looked like the military numbers on the jerseys. |

Thx! Those look pretty slick. I hated the W on the front, and still do on JA helmet., His big ass head ruined it. :D

Yes he wears a Schutt Air XP which is very rounded on top of his big ol' head it makes it look like the W is way too small and way too high on the shell. lol |
Re: Welcome your Washington Commanders
I know I'm late to the party but I think the team should've been renamed:
WASHINGTON RIGGINS -It would be 2 syllables, starting with an R. "Hail to the Riggins" would still work. -It would tie the team to its history -It would be unique (nobody else uses it) -Not offensive (unless Riggins has done something I don't know about?) -Fans would get a real kick out of it. |

Re: Welcome your Washington Commanders
Anything would be better than Commanders. Been a lurker on the board (and longtime member / older poster)... but I've moved on to purpler pastures.
I think it was just the combination of the everything Sndyer has done for this team, as well as this name providing an opportunity for a clean break for me. Still love this fan base, but if I'm being honest, I'm done given Snyder my time and money. Better fan experience in Baltimore, and I'm already and Orioles and Caps fan... so this just makes more sense now. I'll still lurk around on here, and probably passively route for the team... but I'm a Ravens fan until at least Snyder is gone. |

Re: Welcome your Washington Commanders
I could see not going to games, buying merch etc and hating Snyder. I could even see not rooting for the team anymore as long as he is there. But switching teams? I cant even imagine that.
|
Re: Welcome your Washington Commanders
Yep, I can't switch teams.
I can switch sports! I'm looking forward to the new baseball season!... fucking shit man... |
Re: Welcome your Washington Commanders
got a new car and went to transfer the tags, Maryland refused to transfer my Redskins tags. Sad day.

I get the impression that it is Snyder, not necessarily the losing that is keeping him away. So i doubt that would matter. And I understand that - ive said before winning a SB would be so great but i think i would throw up watching that little prick holding the Lombardi trophy acting like he has been a success. But i would just stop watching football all together before i rooted for some other team. |

I consider myself a football fan first a Washington fan second, so when we suck I'm still vested in the sport. With that said I'm happy to see how appreciative the Cincy fan base is just to have a shot at a Lombardi. It also goes to show you no matter how shitty any team is it can be turned around quickly which as Commanders fan is all we can hope happens. Just my two cents, no judgement on anyone who handles it differently |
Re: Welcome your Washington Commanders
Really though, imagine picking a team to follow, and then they start shitting the bed for a decade-plus. Why subject yourself to the possibility? If I lose interest in Washington I just gain interest in the NFL as a league. It's oddly freeing when we get mathematically eliminated and I don't feel bad about watching another game/RedZone

Re: Welcome your Washington Commanders
I'm happy watching any NFL game. If tomorrow there was no team in DC I'd be fine just following the league in general.

Yeah but you don't live in the DC MD VA area, it suck to have no team to go watch. |

Right but it's not more Bmores team than it is DC's. I guess I'm just trying to make sense of his "so this just makes more sense now" statement. Or I'm reading way too much into it lol

Me too...and I'd bet most on here feel the same. However, that little taste of what we got to experience back in 2012 with the team and RGIII reminded us that were old enough what it was like every season during the 80s when this team was always in contention...and I definitely miss that feeling when watching our games now. It was all about our game that week, and then everyone else's. Nowadays, if the Chiefs vs Bills is on same time as our game...some of us probably watch that game and just keep check on our score. |

Football is my favorite sport, but having a rooting interest just makes it so much better. That being said how many great games have I watched that didn’t involve Washington? I vividly remember watching the Chargers vs Dolphins epic battle with Kellen Winslow! Probably the greatest game I have ever seen. As long as the Red Commander Football Team is around It’ll be my only team. If they did disband , well then I would probably root for someone else. Funny cus it would be either Miami or the Chargers and has nothing to do with that game. Rams would be on the short list too. |
Re: Welcome your Washington Commanders
It all comes down to Snyder. If somebody else (a Rooney, Mara, MTK) owned the team and named it Commanders, I would have little problem cheering for them.
|
Re: Welcome your Washington Commanders
Fuck Mara. Lol

I'm happy watching the Ravens, even though their fans can be obnoxious sometimes. In terms of my Washington fandom, there have been plenty of times when the team has sunk to the lowest (firing Marty, getting rid of B. Johnson, Spurrier, Zorn, Vinny, Bruce Allen, etc., etc.) where I could have stopped being a fan. I feel like if I didn't stop being a fan for those awful episodes, a stupid name change is not going to change my mind. I do agree like many that my level of enthusiasm is low, despite continuing being a fan. And my approach to this team has always been to expect the worst and hope for something okay. |
Re: Welcome your Washington Commanders
My approach to watching sports has changed over time as I got older. I used to live and die with how my team did. Now I approach sports like a movie, if the good guys (my team) win that's good, if the bad guys win but there's a good plot (a close action packed game) that's ok too.

Me as well but .... Things were much more interesting and exciting during that 4 game win streak. We were fans of an actual football team for a month! The second the skins start winning again and being relevant ... im back to yelling, screaming and streaking. |
Re: Welcome your Washington Commanders
Wow … 3 very prominent Black Washington executives and players announced the team name with a statement and yet we have some here accusing them of towing the company line ?? Some if you need to grow the f up .. good for Jason Wright !!! So now Wright only does what the man tells him .. he can’t think for himself .. what a damn insult to the only black team president in the NFL …
I wanted to comment on this but waited... When Doug became the 1st black QB to win a SB it was a big deal back in 1987. A big deal. As a black man myself that played QB I had tears in my eyes when that game was over. I knew how important Doug was to a lot of people in DC even though his career here was short. This organization through the years has used him as a pawn. They always trot him out there for PR things or to make the organization look good, but what is his role at this point? Has he ever had a prominent role in the organization? Not really. When they need him to make them look good here comes Doug. It's sad if you ask me. They know Doug's untouchable in this town and they use him because of it. He was demoted when Ron was hired. Why? Dan could have given him the GM job many times but didn't. Instead he had Bruce Allen? Vinny Cerrato? A overrated drunk? SMH And that crap last week on Today was just awkward and sad. As far as Wright is concerned, I'm happy when black men and women get a shot in a position of power in the NFL. However part of his job is to take the heat for the owners. I'm not buying that Jason is stupid enough to put that fucked up looking patch out there. Or those crappy uniforms. I would be willing to bet that is mostly Tayna. I doubt Dan would got that far away from the uniforms. Jason has to take the heat for that. The over under on Jason imo is 3 years and I am taking the under. He's playing w/ snakes. And yes, Doug, Jason and Allen all tow the company line. They're all company men because that is what they get paid to do. |
