i think you can, if so, we could keep a ton of starters.
Yeah, if you can spread the bonus out over four years, our cap woes will be dramatically mitigated. |
Re: Brunell Reworks Deal (FKA "Brunell Reluctant to Renegotiate Deal")
Portis has a $3 million dollar bonus this year. But I didn't think the bonus could be spread out over 4 years. I'm probably wrong.
Other guys scheduled to get big bonuses are: Arrington ($6.4M), Samuels ($4.5), Springs ($3.1), Griffin ($2.5), S. Taylor ($2.2), and Rabach ($2.2).
Well this goes back to the 30% rule. In a normal world we could prorate all the roster bonuses four years out, and this would allow us to save like $15M off the cap. However the 30% rule severly restricts our flexibility here (at least according to my understanding). That's why we only stand to save a couple hundred thousand by restructuring Brunell, instead of a couple million. And any other restrucures would have similar minimal effects. I'm surprised we're able to save anything on Portis' contract under the current rules. |
Re: Brunell Reworks Deal (FKA "Brunell Reluctant to Renegotiate Deal")
From profootballtalk.com
SPECIAL MASTER RULING COMPLICATES MATTERS At a time when NFL teams are trying to figure out how in the hell they'll stay on the right side of the salary cap absent an extension to the Collective Bargaining Agreement, a league source tells us that a Special Master has ruled on Wednesday that option bonus payments will count as signing bonus money for the purposes of the so-called 30 percent rule. This means that it will be even harder to construct contracts in 2006, the final capped year under the current CBA. Under the 30 percent rule, a player's compensation cannot increase in 2007 or beyond by more than 30 percent of the player's 2006 salary, excluding signing bonus. In order to drive up the basis for the application of the 30 percent rule, some teams and agents had planned to transform all or part of the signing bonus into an option bonus due, for example, five days after the contract was signed. Per the Special Master's ruling, this tactic won't permit the option bonus money to be treated as 2006 salary, which then will make it even harder for teams to strike deals that the players will accept under terms that will fit within the 2006 salary cap. Instead, both signing bonus and option bonus money will now be excluded from the player's 2006 salary, for the purposes of applying the 30 percent rule. We're also told that, in a separate ruling, the Special Master invalidated a device that the Colts had been using to fit recent deals under the cap. We presently don't have any further details in this regard, but it could spell trouble for a franchise that somehow has been finding a way to throw around money at a time when other teams are looking for ways to make cuts. Unlike an arbitrator, who resolves issues such as player grievances, a Special Master handles matters requiring interpretation of the language of the CBA. |

Re: Brunell Reworks Deal (FKA "Brunell Reluctant to Renegotiate Deal")
So now all these posts about how Brunell is a bitch.....hhhhmmmm.....
|
Re: Brunell Reworks Deal (FKA "Brunell Reluctant to Renegotiate Deal")
The Post is reporting that the restructured deal would save $1.8 million. Perhaps he took a pay cut in addition to converting some of his salary into a signing bonus. Or maybe, the Post is just dead wrong again.

Foxsports also reported it.

I don't doubt that Brunell restructured his deal (Redskins.com is reporting it). What I am curious to know is how it was restructured. If he took a paycut, well that would be awesome because a conventional restructuring will not bring us much relief given the 30% rule. |

Well, I'm sure he's going to wait until the last minute to see exactly how the restructuring is going to go. One player can't help our situation out, so we can't expect Brunell to play for free. But, I think that with players like Brunell and Portis restructuring, it will send a good message to the other core 'Skins...I just don't see this situation being as bad as what some think. Yeah, it's not going to be pretty, but I don't believe it's going to be THAT bad. /Side note: Offiss: I have a degree in fitness training and served as a personal trainer, so yes, I know quite a bit about weight training thank you very much. Now back to our story. |
Re: Brunell Reworks Deal (FKA "Brunell Reluctant to Renegotiate Deal")
All I want is for the idiots out there to keep doubting us. This is a true team. Everyone ready to sacrifice for one goal.
The last group that thought we were going to lie down was the Cowgirls when they came to our house. Next thing you know the stadium was shaking and all of their bitch fans were driving home at halftime. We messed on Texas... |
