Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
I seriously doubt we'll pick him but it's nice to have other teams think we will.

Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
Yes it is nice to have other teams think we will but we better not, we have bigger needs like LDE and OL

I agree. Whoever we draft at 13 needs to contribute THIS year, not somewhere down the road or not at all. |
Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
In my opinion, what separated Brady in 2004 and 2005 from his down season in 2006 was less about who he had as a dominant receiver, and more about who he didn't have to worry about screwing up the offensive rhythm. Branch, Givens, Troy Brown, Watson, Fauria, Tim Dwight, and Kevin Faulk were all above average receivers at the time in the system, and Brady really had two pretty great seasons back to back.
Ben Watson has been in incredible decline since 2006, along with Troy Brown, and Reche Caldwell/Doug Gabriel/Jabar Gaffney might not have been the best way to go that season. So that, I feel, is why Brady had a down year. I think it shows that he's not "bad receiver proof". He of course, reached new heights with the Moss/Welker tandem, so I think that only makes this case stronger.
Well I would hardly call his 06 season "down." All those guys he was throwing to are average NFL wr's. Through all that he still managed 24td's 12ints and 3,500 yards and 61% completion rate and they were within one first down of going to the Super Bowl. That's pretty damn good and that just shows just how good Tom Brady is. If Jason Campbell could do that with the current group we have then there would be no Jay Cutler Mark Sanchez talk. |

In that case, it would mean we will have to draft on defensive side such as LB.. You may be right though, Redskins might go this way but I just find it difficult to waste an opportunity to draft a elite LT, that is if any of top 4 Ts is available.. Samuels might be able to handle being LT for maybe two years, but it doesn't stop the fact of aging player gets injured often.. It would be nice to have a back-up T to handle the position.. Draft a T, let Jansen, Heyer, and rookie T fight it out for RT.. Whoever plays the best, he wins that place.. Hell, if the rookie do very well in practices, enough to show coaches that he is ready to play then go ahead and pluck him into LT and move Samuels to RT, then we would have one of the best O-lines in NFL.. That is if Thomas do well this year, or one of our back-ups emerges.. Imagine what we can do if JC would be able to do with some times.. We should be able to find a good LB in 3rd round; I wouldn't mind if we trade some picks to move up to 2nd round (I prefer to trade down with our #13 but suppose if there was no trade partner) to draft a better LB if whoever is on our board (Snyder and Vinny's board) is available.. |
Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
I agree but honestly I doubt one of the top OT's will be available at 13. It's possible, but a potentially elite OT is valuable and hard to find. I think teams are more likely to gamble on an OT than some of the other positions. I don't think the FO would draft Mack at 13 though personally I would, so a tradedown is probably our only chance to get him. I need to get over it but I can't help thinking about how much we could use that second round pick we gave up for JT. Maybe someone will trade up with us for Sanchez or someone else and we pick up another draft choice and find the best OT's were gone before the 13th pick anyway. Then we pick up Mack later in the first, Matthews, Maualuga, or one of the other good LB's falls and we pick him up with the other pick we got in the trade. And maybe I'll wake up in the morning and find Jessica Alba standing at the foot of my bed holding the 60 million dollar lottery check I won while I was sleeping. Man I can't wait until the draft gets here. I think we'll do something to help our team. I just don't know if we'll do the best thing to help our team. By the way GridIron26, just like you, I would love to see what Campbell could do without having to run for his life. :)

:laughing- What a coincidence, she visited me early morning last week...didn't stay long though. I have the same suspicion about our choice @ OT being limited. Sounds like the FO doesn't view Oher as a value @ 13 (I think he'll be there but we pass on him). I don't know, guess i just have to go w/ their scouting on this one. Britton and the other guys are probably a reach @ 13...so yeah defense may be the 1st pick. DE? LB? Hard to say. Rey would surprise me now quite a bit. ...altogether I think the FO has been real smart to keep the chips off the table since our early flurry (apart from the friggin Cutler debacle). I mean there should be some nice talent come available in FA after the draft, value opportunities for sure at OL i'm thinking. |

Yes. The comparisons made in posts above about Tom Brady getting it done with mediocre wide receivers obscure one fact: the Pats are very good at keeping Brady upright. This gives middling receivers a chance to break open. JC has not enjoyed this luxury. Let's see JC get some real pass protection. Then, if he doesn't get it done, at that point he can be unfavorably compared to Brady. Despite Mel Kiper's brilliance (sarcasm), Nancy Reagan says, "Just say no to Mark Sanchez." Feed the front please, Vinny. |
Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
I don't know for sure, but the impression I got here (meaning here at work) was that Kiper (as of two days ago) thought Sanchez would be the 13th pick, but not necessarily picked by the Redskins at 13.
Regardless, he'll change his pick again in two weeks Plus, I don't think Sanchez makes it past 10 anyway. |

I certainly hope that is not the case; although Oher may be slow learner or whatever that is holding him back, it is perfect reason for us to draft him.. We already have solidified LT in Samuels for two years or so, it would be perfect timing for Oher to jump into LT after he spends a year or so in our O system and is ready to play.. Some scouts spoke Oher in same breath with Odgen and Pace.. How can you pass an opportunity like that? Granted, there are chances of Oher not blossoming into Pace-alike but at least we would not have to worry about our O-line for a while (unless we continue to do nothing at C) |
Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
Hey fellow Redskins fans, I'm new to the Warpath as far as replying to posts. Why do some Redskins fans or the the front office think that we need to change our starting QB again. Here are a few QB's that use to play for the Redskins ( Gus F. Trent Green, Brad Johnson, Pat Ramsey, Rich Gannon, Jeff George etc...) I think couple of these QB went to the Super Bowl and even had nice careers. Did the Ravens have a franchise QB in Dilfer and T. Banks ( Ex Redskin) when they won the Super Bowl? Did the Bears have a Franchise QB ( Grossman) when they lost to the Colts in the Super Bowl? Lets build our defense and O-line through the draft. Our Defense played great but they don't make enough game changing plays any more due to a lack of impact players such as Sean Taylor and Lavar Arrington. Lets stop trying to fined a so called Franchise QB and lets improve our defense to be Nasty like B-more and the Steelers. I live 45min. away from Los Angeles and I see USC games all season, I like Sanchez but not for our team cause we have QB that we have invested in so lets not give up on him so soon like the other former Redskin QB's we had. Lets Draft the best OL or Defensive Impact player.

Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
Does anyone remember when Giant fans were down on Eli Manning his 1st few years until they won the Super Bowl? The G-Men draft OL and DL and helped Eli. When your defense can make plays your offense doesn't have to press the whole game. Did anyone see the 49ers game? JC drove us down the field throwing and with his legs moving the chains. He got us in the end zone but our defense could not get stop which led to a game winning fg for 49ers. What about the Rams game, when our defense needed to make a stop but allowed a long pass to a rams rookie wr which lead to the gm winning fg. Folks our defense is good but not great. I would not be mad if we took USC LB Malauaga , DT Raji. The DE in this draft are weak or 3-4 type hybrids. The only DE I would take in the 1st round is Orakpo. Michael Johnson of Georgia Tech has all the tools but does he have the motor and heart?

Basically, "Which Tom Brady season (04-07) doesn't belong."
I think getting purely technical, I'd take the Pats' WRs of 04/05 over our current group. But ultimately, I hope no one is blaming Jason Campbell for not being Tom Brady. There's a lot of starting QBs in this league, at least 28, who will never enjoy the type of highs that Brady has reached. I do believe Jay Cutler is among those 28 (as of course is Campbell). |
