Re: Around the NFL - Offseason thread

Could anyone imagine how much ridicule the Giants would've taken if Bradshaw fell down at the 1, they run off the clock, and the field goal misses or gets blocked? If it were the Redskins in that scenario, I wouldn't have cared if they had scored the td or not. I would trust my defense to end the game.

If the Pats would have needed a FG to win that game, they probably win it. Very different dynamic between needing a FG to win vs. needing a TD. As good as the Giants D played, I think Brady gets the Pats within FG range to win the game.

I'm sure Brady could have used him in the SB. At least he would have been more useful than Ochocinco.

good news. i hope he just stays away from DC, but i miss watching him play (when he wants to play).

Somebody like the Eagles I think would be attractive.

No joke. Being too cute can come back to bite you.

What a weird topic this is. "How dare that football player score a touchdown! What was he thinking?"

So you are saying only the Giants were going to get ridiculed,no other team in that situation would, if the Redskin were in the SB and did'nt score and missed a a FG ......you would'nt have cared?

Really? Like really really? Fo' realz? Any team in that situation. Giants just being the example because they were the team in that specific situation. Wow. And people think I'm the one getting testy up in here? My whole point is basically what Lotus said, what happens if you get too cute (just to make you happy I'll put the Redskins in this example ;)), you run the clock all the way down, and then you miss the field goal and the other team wins? Wow. Come on Giantone. You're better than that. Of course the Redskins would get ridiculed, as they'd have deserved to. The defense allows you free points and you decline?

In that scenario, the Pats don't get the opportunity to drive down for the field goal.

The entire scenario:

Redskins (just for you Giantone ) are losing to the Pats 15-17, it's the 2 min drill, and the ball is at the Pats 12 with a minute left. Shanny instructs Helu to run the ball up the middle and if the Pats allow him to score, he needs to fall down at the 1 instead so they can run the time off the clock and kick a field goal with 10 seconds left.

Instead what happens is Helu doesn't expect the red seas to part, and by the time he slows down he's already taken the ball past the plane of the goal line. Our defense goes on to stop the Pats offense and we win the game.

Now this is where the alternate scenario kicks in. Alternate being; Helu goes down at the one, we run down the clock, and AMG Gano or someone on ST f's up the kick and we lose. Pats win 17-15.

Before that scenario even starts, if I'm Shanny I'm telling Helu that if they allow you to score, you take it. You don't know what will happen, but you know the odds are probably about the same that your defense can stop the Pats offense (especially considering the way they've ((they've meaning the Giants D in this particular scenario)) been playing the whole game) as your field goal unit missing the kick (meaning the Redskins fg unit that was trashy the whole season).

Just to summarize, if we lose the game because we ran the clock down and missed the field goal, we deserve to be criticized, no matter the team.

The amount of cute girls in the military blows my mind. I see it every day and I am like really this was your best option with those looks.

Nothing wrong with a good looking girl in uniform. I see a lot of cute girls in the military, and I don't see anything wrong with that. Good for them for going out and proving they're not just your typical airhead.

Believe me I don't think anything is wrong with it, actually I am thankful for it. I am just surprised they are there.

This is interesting.
Roddy White of Atlanta Falcons rips Roger Goodell's reported salary - ESPN

First he comes off as a complete idiot
"How in the hell can u pay a man this much money that cant run tackle or catch," White wrote, posting a link to a ProFootballTalk.com story which referenced the Sports Business Journal's report on Goodell's compensation.

"Roger Goodell is getting over never seen anything like it 20 million for looking over the league with tremendous help I guess the NFL is banking,"
Then he becomes insightful for a brief second.
"The NFL is not a company it's a nonprofit organization that makes a lot of profit."
Then he goes back to being an idiot
When one of White's followers pointed out that Goodell is running the biggest sports league in the country, White took offense.

"Thats the stupidest thing i have ever heard the players make this league dont ever forget that," he wrote.
